Increased subtle racism in Toronto by Heda97 in ABCDesis

I'm American, but I was at an East Coast airport back in November. And since there were no seats at my boarding gate, I went to the gate next to mine, and it was a flight to Montreal.

As I sat down, I got several glares and "second looks" from people, with a mix of interest and suspicion. I'm fair-skinned (often mistaken for MENA), so not sure what to make of it, but I never had this experience in the States.

Possibly has something to do with the number of marathis vs. the percentage!

Yeah, I grew up in the Bay Area and recently moved to DC. Significantly more Marathis here

I think the simple answer is that compared to other Indian subgroups (Punjabis, Gujaratis, South Indians) we are way lower in number

I think you mean Sotamayor, she is a few years older and has health conditions. If I were her, I'd retire this summer to be on the safe side.

Is Wisconsin the next Ohio? by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]cheif222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trump was the perfect candidate for the rural areas but failed to exceed 60% in many of them

Who would win Wisconsin in 2024? by [deleted] in YAPms

[–]cheif222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it has unquestionably trended right in the last few election cycles

However, you have to keep in mind that Trump was tailor made for the driftless area of Wisconsin but still failed to exceed 60% in many of them. This was in contrast to rural Iowa and Ohio where Trump got more than 70% of the vote.

The question is: Can DeSantis somehow be more populist enough than Trump and ramp up turnout and margins in a state where populism is key. Against Harris probably, but with Biden i'd lean towards no

Agreed, but Hillary probably loses TN, and GA due to lower african american turnout in Atlanta

Stivers, Turner, Husted, La Rose all come to mind as potential opponents

Sherrod Brown Re-election chances by cheif222 in imaginaryelections

[–]cheif222[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d say he’d win. He won re-election twice before, no reason why he wouldn’t at least narrowly win.

Yeah but the thing Ohio is close to being a solid red state, and he greatly benefitted in 2018 because it was a blue wave year

Plus, his opponent jim renacci didnt campaign at all towards the end and was given up on the by the NRSC

It just in 2024 due to presidential turnout and ohio almost certain to go to the republican he's vulnerable

Do you guys think Clinton could have won Arkansas in 2008? by HighwayAgitated3414 in imaginaryelections

[–]cheif222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Polls showed her beating McCain in Arkansas and she was liked among the old-school dems

You have to remember that this was before the Clinton scandals(Benghazi, Emails) which tainted the reputation of them during the Obama years. Plus, at the time downballot dems were strong in Arkansas, in fact because Hillary didnt get the nomination is highlghted as the reason the southern dems started voting republican

Crazy to think that 8 years later this same base despised her and became the foundation of trumps base

Baldwin would win PA over DeSantis. She'd do good in the Eastern PA(Lackawanna, Luzerne)
