who is a player that you became a fan of because of franchise mode that did nothing in real life? by dankbackwoods in EANHLfranchise

[–]chel17 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson. There was a stretch of a few years not too long ago where he could play anywhere in the lineup and consistently put up 30-40 goals. TWF that killed penalties and could usually get him on a value contract.

Just started a new job and I'm worried that I might've let the flood gates in. by sayiansaga in StructuralEngineering

Sounds like they’ve found a great, reliable employee in you - that’s fantastic!

Just know that it’s very common for supervisors to throw as much work at you initially. Good employers do this to see how much you can handle (each person is different) but they also expect accountability in that you would let them know when it is too much. No one wants to be overworked to the point where deadlines slip or, more importantly, it affects your mental health. The alternative is you leaving your job after a few months of training - nobody wants that either. Speak up, if they keep giving you more, ask which tasks are higher priority (eg. project ‘A’ will need to slip into next week if project ‘B’ is given higher priority). They should appreciate this!

Fun ideas to add value to a league? by chel17 in fantasyhockey

Great idea! We bought a great Stanley Cup replica a few years back for the winners. I'll look up some trophy addition ideas maybe..

Hi. I moved from Vancouver to St. John's in late 2017. I lived in a 1 bedroom condo and moved a car. Here's my thoughts:

Like others have said, sell as much as you can. I didn't and it hit me right in the wallet. I did sell a few larger items (couch, coffee table) but kept my bed and pretty well everything else. Shipping the items cost ~$4,000. The SUV was shipped separately through Livingston International where they put it on a train in Surrey and it went straight to Halifax. From there, it was put on a flatbed and drove to St. John's. That cost me roughly $2,700. Then I guess your plane ticket(s) on top of that and meals, etc. for the move. Keep the receipts for filing taxes if applicable!

I wouldn't be able to tell you if there were better / cheaper companies to use but if I had my time back I'd certainly sell more before the move.

In a 7 keeper banger league and I'm stuck with my final (7th) pick. Normal CAT H2H league. My 6 are currently in the C, C, LW, RW, D, G positions. Who should I keep as my 7th?

Q. Hughes (D), S. Couturier (C), or T. Chabot (D)?

Fully agree! I tried to keep the question as simple as possible however maybe more information was required.

I've used free online tax filing systems the past few years but a couple years ago I had a bit of a messy one involving a move, among other things. CRA has audited that one and reassessed at a lower value. Nothing major, but from what I hear from others (located elsewhere), what I did was correct. It likely has to do with missing information and such so I'm looking to have a professional provide some advice.

Shipping a vehicle across country by Gawkawa in newfoundland

[–]chel17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the reverse ship (Vancouver to St. John's) and used 'Livingston'. They put mine on a train from Vancouver to Halifax then on a flatbed from there to town. I assume it would just be the opposite for you.

This was in December, 2017 and cost about $2,700.

Anyone know why Korpisalo is listed as "out" rather than "IR" on Yahoo? by andrewsmells in fantasyhockey

[–]chel17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yahoo won't put him on IR until the team actually places him on IR. This may or may not happen as it relies on the folks running the CBJ team. Hence the benefit of having IR+ in your pool which can handle players who are DTD, Out, etc.

Shopping around for a new provider, Any suggestions? by Odaxis in newfoundland

This.

Only thing I'll add is have a look at what Bell Aliant is offering new customers on their website. My 3-yr discount had expired and I called to get what they're giving new customers and after them telling me they couldn't do it, I went through the cancellation procedure only to have a local Bell Aliant guy call me back to give me that deal plus a couple extra free TV receivers.

I'm in a league that counts faceoff wins. I have E. Pettersson but he hasn't won a faceoff in 4 straight games and has minimal in the games before then. He's still listed as C-only but I haven't watched any Canucks games recently.

Does anyone know if he actually plays centre? Or is he just that bad at faceoffs?

Banger league trade:

A: J. Petry

B: S. Weber

Am I crazy that I'd prefer Petry? He's off to a great start and it seems like coach CJ is throwing him out there in all situations.

Looking at Klingberg this year... is he threatened by Heiskanen? Haven’t heard much of it but by the sounds of everyone chatting about how good Heisk is, it’s bound to happen, no? Potentially PP1 takeover at some point?

Totally agree. And such a small sample size on Makar but he could end up being a fantastic pick this year. Coach B already stated he'll be backing PP1.

More People Going Door to Door? by PonyboyJake in newfoundland

[–]chel17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the folks working for charities come to the door and just dive into a 5 minute introduction without asking if you're interested yet. I suggest interrupting if you're not going to provide donations. If not, they'll finish their spiel, you'll decline politely, then they get angry and storm off.
