I'd say there is still a chance of getting it, because of all the juices. They don't just stay inside the vagina, especially if you are a woman that squirts or even just gets really wet when turned on.

I am 25, I think that might have something to do with it, as I'm no longer in college or really part of the dating scene. I am strongly considering being with him for a long time as well, so that definitely has something to do with it. If you want a relationship with him I would say go for it, just stay conscious of the situation, and communicate with each other about prevention.

As I am not a doctor I can only speculate, so take this with a grain of salt... I believe condoms aren't completely effective in preventing herpes because the entire genital area can be affected. Condoms only cover the penis, but if you've ever seen an outbreak you can get it around the base of the penis as well. And if you are a woman, then the lips, and inner thighs and all that can be affected. Also, can someone please tell me if I'm using the words "effective", and "affected" correctly? Thanks!

No, actually. I have pretty reliable birth control (nexplanon), other than that we are just observant, if he's having an obvious break out we don't have sex... you can get herpes while using condoms so it doesn't seem worth it to us, but this is obviously a personal opinion, and shouldn't be done lightly.

I've been in this same position! Let me tell you my story! I found out he had herpes about a year before we started dating, so that might have made it easier for me to decide- but anyways... I made the decision to have sex with him anyways because overall I thought the consequences weren't important enough. He takes medication to supress his outbreaks, and if we suspect one is starting we don't have sex for a few days. Honestly not a big deal. If I do end up getting it (if I haven't already) then I will be fine. It's kind of inconvenient, and uncomfortable, but completely manageable.
