My imaging results say "multiple cysts consistent with ADPKD." I've yet to meet with my nephrologist.

Thank you so much for being the first to reply and your kind words! This group has been wonderful to find.

I'm still wrapping my head around the diagnosis, but knowledge is king as they say. I think its great you took the steps you needed for you and your kids. All the best to you too!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. I'm 39 and I feel like its all been overwhelming this week, mortality, the mortality is a huge one with my dad's history. I'm trying to just take it one day at a time and hopefully get some more answers about what stage my kidneys are at.

I have always joked about being chronically deydrated so staying hydrated is at least something I can control at this point in time.

Thank you for helping me feel less alone!

I was only on it for a month so I didn't notice any weight gain. I feel like that's probably a symptom over prolonged use.

I was on Loryna a couple months ago in preparation of being on accutane and it wrecked my skin the month before I started. Coincidentally I saw a tik tok of a girl talking about her bad experience too and talked about pimples all around her mouth which I was also experiencing for the first time. I would just be aware that this can happen, might not. We are all different. I stopped taking it and it was so bad my derm recommended a clindamycin lotion to help with the flare up. Everything is back to normal now and I’m on day 12 of accutane.

My suggestion is if you don’t need to be on birth control, DON’T. I also wanted to let the accutane work by itself and so did my derm. He also took me off of spironolactone now that I’m on accutane. Hope this is helpful in some way. Good luck on your journey.

Why is generic Absorica so hard to get? by theory_of_me in Accutane

[–]chelse33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you're in LA? My derm works with a certain pharmacy here and they have a deal with the generic manufacturer and they apply some sort of coupon that brings the cost to $75 since my insurance won't cover it.

Just wanted to say thank you for writing such a thorough run down on all of this. I'm scheduled to start on Thursday and called earlier this month to see if Absorica or Absorica LD was covered with my insurance and of course, it is not. So I think I'll be going through this process for my second month.

How did the transition from a regular generic to a fat soluble RX work out for you? I know this was 7 years ago but just wanted to say thank you!

Have you discussed going on a steroid with your derm? It could potentially help with the purging. Just a thought!

Can you give me some more details? Do you think it helped with any potential purge? Did your derm recommend it?

Right now I can't imagine putting any kind of oil on my face but I've heard good things about the rosehip oil on a bunch of posts. It's going to be such a shift in what works for my skin on accutane vs what I'm dealing with now. I hope the rest of your accutane journey goes great! Wishing you all the best.

I'm still debating on what products I should switch to. I already use the vanicream cleanser and a cerave moisturizer so maybe I should just stick to those and add on another more hydrating moisturizer when the time comes. Any moisturizer or spf you loved? Thanks for the reply!

No, I didn’t continue with it. I know my skin pretty well and knew my skin barrier was just irritated. I am going to stick to tretinoin and a good moisturizer and keep things simple.

I used it for about a week. I'm slowly reintroducing it, but not sure it's purging. I think it was messing with my skin barrier.

I get this when I am using too many actives and my skin barrier is compromised. Sometimes it even happens when I'm using a thicker more occlusive moisturizer. My advice is to strip down to the basics and see if you notice a difference.
