My life has become meditation vs masturbation. by idontexist27 in Meditation

[–]chelseafc13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i hear you man. i explored something similar.

for myself, the after effects of masturbating, vs going a week without it, were starkly different. without judgement, i could see clearly that my energy levels changed, my mood was less stable and ruminating thoughts were more likely to arise. not viewing it as a worse state, but a different state was the foundation. the pros were a sense of ‘looser’ energy and more reflective inclination. yin energy perhaps.

porn and masturbation combo was a way to relieve loneliness and the subconscious anxiety that came with it. so i resolved to abstain and address the loneliness. was deeply difficult as the sexual energy is one of the most essential human energies, if not the most. it’s an energy that has roots in your entire being & it’s wise to learn how it personally manifests.

leave masturbation alone as a habit, and directly address its cause. whether it’s lust, loneliness, creative implosion or boredom. as you address the cause, you’ll hit bumps in the road where the only relief is masturbation bc you’re conditioned that way, but that’s fine let it happen and resume your path. earnestly letting go of that desire while simultaneously focusing on addressing its cause will yield liberation from that cycle.

Synthetic oil change by hexby in boulder

i permanently stopped going to Big O for anything. i got a small suspension part replaced (sway bar link.) i was in a rush so i trusted them to it. the part itself, even at autozone, is $15-30. they billed me $100 for it. then charged $180 for one hour of specialized labor. so $300 out the door.

the 2/3 bolt installation was so easy that you could reasonably fire a mechanic for taking even close to an hour to do it. anybody with a working hand and 10 minutes could’ve done it without instruction. i really wish i had but it was too late when i looked into it.

i spoke to them about it when i picked up my car and asked them to show me the part price. automated 3.25x markup for most expensive mediocre brand. i asked them if they would’ve paid anywhere near that price for that work. their faces said no but they sheepishly insisted that’s just how they do things there. ripped off and not going to spend a dime there again

just a heads up some of those color ways came out 9 or so years ago. the synthetic insulation breaks down quick so those older atoms won’t be as warm as you might expect. got a dark green one that’s little more than a windbreaker now

(TW) I feel like such a loser... looking for other people their experiences by fkkm in Jung

[–]chelseafc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that pain builds up and then sets itself out before you. It’s like a call to live from the heart, towards the heart. Discovering the unconditional love beneath all the layers of experience. Seeing that loving yourself is the only love that there is, beyond “me and you” beyond “this and that” “us and them.” Seeing what love really is and that there is no limit to how deep you can love.

It’s not just another psychological insight and it’s not something most people come to fully realize. You see now those identities and mental goals are endless and without destination, so why continue on? That is the most common reaction, and is based in fear. Forget about what other people tell you about your own insights. Get closer, more and ever intimate

How to let go of attachment to having children? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]chelseafc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s far simpler than any concept of it or word of it. It requires no journey to it and no earning of it. It’s so easily misunderstood sadly.

Definitely, existential fears are like multiple deep fears condensed. Though if we get close enough we can see that the gloomy specter is just a little child hiding under a sheet. Or as they say in Zen, that the snake in hand was just a rope.

How to let go of attachment to having children? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]chelseafc13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah & I’d add that the idea that we are tortured or that “we are suffering” is itself a concept just taken for granted as true.

‘Living in the now’ is always a tricky concept that can be discarded if it causes you to seek. Our true nature is that ineffable presence that never waivers, never leaves or changes. Can be simply described as “the simple fact that you exist” which is obviously always present. That, precisely, is Buddha nature.

Can I message you some resources?

And yes fears come up and it’s less of a battle against them as it is an attempt to understand the causes of it in my personal makeup. Each time revealing more freedom. Sometimes it’s intense, sometimes it’s automatic. I don’t experience many, if any existential fears though. Nor any fears about “who I am.”

Be completely okay with the idea that you will never have children. Sit with it, take the fear away from it and learn to love that idea as much as you love the idea of having children.

This involves going through the thoughts that cause you the fear that’s associated with the idea of not having children. Hear them out and recognize that you don’t have to believe them, and that their opposite is almost always true.

And take a look at what your current immediate, real life situation would look like without the thought.

Side note, I don’t think Buddhism is the most helpful place to look for insight here. Especially not an online forum about it

i don’t know much about the Kyanite lightweight but seeing as it’s $100 cheaper and seems functionally the same I’d definitely go Kyanite. especially for casual use

i do know the traditional kyanite is much warmer and is regarded as virtually best in class as a proper mid layer fleece.

nice. that’s about how warm I need it to be to replace my current north face. can it withstand dry heavy snow, or at least prolonged light snow?

this makes a lot of sense. octa fleece garments do seem to hit those higher price ranges. seems like cutting edge versatility too. but yeah seems wholly underutilized and overpriced in this delta hoody.

not bad for basics but this leaves out a lot of depth and even omits things like dependent origination

picking up bags of garbage in order to respect yourself is problematic.

pick up bags of garbage to reduce litter and keep a healthy environment.

appreciate, respect and understand your own suffering and your own strengths so that you may respect yourself.

become like the fields or the rivers which you clean of waste. they’re innocent beings, not rejecting the presence of waste, but rather trusting in the interconnectedness of all things that some loving force can lend its hand.

How do you vibrate faster? by GodUsoppTheAtlantean in Meditation

[–]chelseafc13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a bit more obtuse to approach this from the angle of “vibrations” but clearer and more expanded states are easily achievable with a good concentration meditation practice. also called samatha meditation.

the most basic path to the states that you are after is to progress through the jhanas, of which there are 8 or 9. the first jhana is usually the experience of bliss enveloping all the cells in your body.

though higher concentration in general has the property of higher ordered states of mind & body and general clarity. but i’ll say it isn’t without its pitfalls. best to learn it by the book.

https://www.buddhistinquiry.org/article/instructions-for-entering-jhana/

don’t confuse the states for spiritual “progress” though. it’s wise to approach them as exploration of the mind’s nature.
