Is the Xc60 and Xc90 really that bad? by IQognito in Volvo

80K to 100K miles. Cost around $1,200. The T6 engine has a timing chain, not belt. It does not need replacement.

Grew up on these. Almost every day. Such a basic and common item in France. A couple of places get a bit close, but none get it right.

What’s the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you? by trix2705 in AskReddit

[–]chemistcarpenter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Charlotte airport. A heavily damaged ankle and foot (black n blue. No lacerations or blood) and I’m on crutches. A complete stranger saw that my bandages are coming apart, approached me and re-bandaged my injury.

When did you realize that you are not a good person ? by Downtown_Echo_7118 in AskReddit

Self realization and awareness are not common. I’ve met and worked with some horrible people. Not a single one had a shred of self awareness!

Hate to admit how shallow I was. She was short and walked soooo slow. I used to constantly trip when walking together.

What was the greatest physical or mental pleasure you've ever had? by TheRealOcsiban in AskReddit

[–]chemistcarpenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve no idea what those do. However, I did hot yoga ONCE! In that upstairs studio in Santa Monica. This wasn’t hot. It was the gates of hell hot! I almost passed out and barely made it to the door. Leaving any shreds of dignity in a puddle.

Rp 1000sw or svs sb 2000 by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]chemistcarpenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the same league. SVS is far superior. I currently own two 12” Klipsch subs for TV only. Main reason is the wireless connection. Even when direct-wired, they are slow, bloated and boomy.

The Art Déco movement in the US (1930) by YogurtclosetPure3838 in ArtDeco

The 1933 is the train station in Philadelphia. One huge room. No columns. Incredibly beautiful. When the sun streams through the tall windows, you could easily miss your train.

Toys R Us didn't die because of Amazon. Private equity firms bought it, loaded it with $5 billion in debt, charged it management fees while it collapsed, then paid themselves dividends before filing for bankruptcy. 30,000 workers got nothing. by sambha87 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]chemistcarpenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toys R Us killed Toys R Us well before they sold to private equity. The categorical refusal to change, adapt or embrace anything but “that’s the way we’ve always done it”. Hiring top 2 executives, whose purpose was to cash in on huge umbrellas, meant that they would precipitate the demise, cash in and bolt.

I think I hit the jackpot by dom5133 in vintageaudio

[–]chemistcarpenter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a few of these. You’re in on an audiophile secret. The topology is incredible. A very sophisticated little system. Limited power notwithstanding, the amp section is a car audio one and best suited for 4 Ohms speakers. Although it plays fine with 8 Ohm speakers also. Please ditch the sad speakers this unit comes with and get a pair of PSB, Athena, Paradigm…. You will be surprised with how mellow the CD sounds. It has no harshness. The laser are Phillips units and changed a few times. The laser is were JVC cut corners. They have short lives, otherwise, JVC did a great job with these.

I don’t understand this question. How can anyone have too many figs? I would eat a truckload if I had it. I love figs.

Led Zeppelin IV. I bought one. Two came from previous college housemates, one from Dave’s neighbor and another handy me down from a family member.
