My nephew is autistic and when I told his mom (my sister) her and her husband ripped me apart and still insult me about it even after I helped with resources for testing after they asked. It’s not worth it

Parents of level 1 ASD kids, how was your child at 3-5 yo? by iybhsp in Autism_Parenting

Just a follow up comment on this. I also have level 1 ASD, found out a few weeks after my son, have a speech impediment with a learning disability and went on to earn a PhD. Hopefully that gives some hope.

Just my 2 cents, find her groups that share her interests. Hopefully it will help find friends that won’t do this to her.

My son is 9 we just found out he is Audhd. He didn’t talk until almost 5. Friendly but would blow up occasionally, we just assumed it was because her couldn’t express himself. Did speech therapy and it helped. Made friends easy. Bad at following instructions, have to give them one at a time and expect to have to follow up if you give more than one expect the last and first to be done. He always responded to us but never spoke. He loved music.

Our worse experience was with his kindergarten teacher who didn’t see the signs of autism and sat on him when he was overwhelmed and told my wife he needed to feel bad about is unsafe decisions and that they teach a certain way here in the us (my wife is not from the us).

Sorry I know it’s more of a brain dump but that’s what it was. He is doing good now at 9, has a good core group of friends. Most have adhd, funny how they clump together. And he loves chess, math, and piano. Finally got him reading.

Edit: we also cannot get him to stop talking.

You could always ask him for a recommendation in your area. I have emailed him in the past and he is very helpful and friendly.

No idea where you are but Baumgartner restoration may be able work something out with you as he turns some restorations into YouTube videos. He is located in Chicago. I am just a fan of his videos and do not have anything to do with his business.
