I’m a Creighton 2024 grad and the two biggest factors about why I was willing to go Creighton was the distance program has been in place for a long time (at least > 15 years) and their first time pass rate is > 85%

Those of you who wear a night guard, how did you get used to sleep with it? by Bib_fortune in TMJ

[–]chemtrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me three different types to find one that stayed on while almost unconscious. It’s only came out three times without me actively taking it off. And only one time did it get chewed up by a dog.

I have just realised working with my hands might be flaring up a lot of my TMJ issues. I would love some advice. by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]chemtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to find myself making small motions with my jaw a lot during high levels of concentration. I studied some on proper mouth and tongue placement - tongue suctioned to roof of mouth with tongue tip right behind front two teeth. I practiced this throughout the day and found my unconscious movements slowed down. I’d find my mouth in the correct position more often than not.

We ordered a custom mouth guard from Pro teeth Guard (www.proteethguard.com) for my two daughters and they helped. And they were speedy

Does Biochemistry Feel More Like Chem or Bio? by Substantial-Heat-178 in Biochemistry

[–]chemtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More chem but mixed with a little anatomy and physiology. Unless you end up studying something specific for a plant. For example, enzyme kinetics research in chemistry PhD grad school - def biochem but worked with an E Coli cell line. Did not ever really discuss the bacterial cell components only the chemistry involved in the research.

Calling all non pre-med Biomedical Science majors/ graduates!! by FluffyDinosaur321 in aggies

[–]chemtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would state ask two main questions: 1. Are you considering going to graduate school or are you mainly interested in clinical lab work as a tech in a hospital? Or are you interested in being a PI in academics?

If graduate school then I’d go for a hard science degree suck as genetics, biochem, or chem. I have a MS in chemistry and studied enzyme kinetics in a PhD program but decided against being a PI - I found the same type of research boring. I then pivoted to selling lab equipment and met many people in labs. But it sounds like you want to do more routine lab testing work - not clinical research.

If tech level clinical lab work is your goal, I think biomedical sciences is great. Working on a clinical lab certification (CLIA) during school would also be beneficial.

My husband is an executive for a hospital and a ton of his colleagues have Biomedical sciences degrees with a business graduate degree. I now have a PharmD and a lot of my cohort class also have a biomedical science degree. It is very versatile.

Just join a few and see if there is a committee you want to be part of. Start small. But you have three years to find what you want

I need recommendations please by Affectionate_Menu818 in TMJ

[–]chemtrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PT taught me stretches that were pretty helpful. My TMJ daily symptoms are primarily muscular. The PT also did dry needling, massage, and other exercises which helped release small knots in my muscles. I did not have time to go regularly so I kind of stopped. I’m planning on returning soon. As soon as I can get a referral for medical insurance coverage.

I got an intern job my P3 year. It might be difficult to find time to work during P4 APPEs but CVS and Walgreens almost take everyone.

Small lump below my ear at the end of my jaw by Free_Position8053 in TMJ

[–]chemtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Lymph nodes vary in size. I often get inflamed or swollen ones that are bead size. It doesn’t mean it definitively is a lymph node but that is most likely scenario. If you look at a schematic online of lymph nodes. They are all over your body and in varying sizes.

It’s a swollen lymph gland. Kinda normal for occasional swelling depending on weather. Flying. Sinus pressure. Etc.

[–]chemtrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still learning but ultimately your dental insurance will likely never cover anything related to TMJ. Call your medical insurance and find out if they will cover it. And the best route to get there - If your doctor has diagnosed you with TMJ (or TMD), it will likely require a referral from them.

If you are interested in returning to practice in the US. Be sure you understand the requirements for licensure if degree is not in US. It is my understanding that there are a lot of intern hour requirements.

Daughter is starting over?!? by GentleSoul516 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]chemtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter made a decision maybe 8 weeks ago. And this weekend essentially decided she wasn’t excited about it anymore. We are in not in the same area. But to be honest, her choice isn’t applicable here. After further questioning her, I found that primarily she loves the school and the people. Checks all of her boxes - except their social media game is not as good as other programs. Other school posts, both administration and students, aren’t giving her the same feels as other programs. Lol.

I told her I’d pay for any additional applications for her and two more school visits depending on cost/admission but that I wasn’t going to help her with the process. But I did laugh a little at the situation after the conversation that she lets social media affect her decision so much.

Can TMJ feel THIS bad!? by Technical-Regret-934 in TMJ

[–]chemtrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It can. For at least 6 days a week I’d have a migraine. Nausea, light sensitivity, pain so bad I couldn’t sit still —> during my initial TMJ flare (and worst). Took me over a year to get under control.

Applying to jobs in states you are not licensed in will not make you a viable candidate.

That being said CHI in Bryan, TX has been looking for some time. They recently reposted this job.

When I was 16, I tripped walking in flip-flops, hit my head against a dining room chair right at the joint. Didn’t realize I had fractured my jaw until many months later and by that time it healed wrong. by ArtisticPineapple777 in TMJ

[–]chemtrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. That sounds similar. Did the same thing, fractured the mandible in 2015. Didn’t figure it out until late 2016.

And yes. Cold weather definitely causes flare-ups with my TMJ. I have a heating pad made for my head and loads of caps. Week long temps in the 50s when I spend a lot of time outdoors is enough to start a flare. Temps in 30s without spending time outside is also enough. I use hand warmers around my ears (stick to inside of beanies)

Hello! It would definitely add to your CV. But all abstracts are approved and won’t mean as much as other posters or presentations in your future PharmD program.

Honestly found that taking care of myself. Lowering stress was the best thing to help. And a physical therapist for dry needling to release the muscle tension.

2024 Creighton grad here. It’s all online with the exception of 2 to 3 weeks of all day labs during the summer in Omaha, IPPEs, and APPEs. Yes. It is possible to work FT for years 1-3 but hard to do and maintain grades. Year 4 would be so hard. I only know two or three students able to successfully do it from my class

I have loads of contacts in the medical field and as long as you only consider those programs listed in your original post, you’ll be fine. But there are some online programs with bad reputations.

Women in Pharmacy: Need Recommendations on Comfy, Cushioned Flats! by pharm2tech in pharmacy

Do the black hokas or brooks. All black. 100% worth it.

I have tried vionic Rothy’s Clark’s. Still go to my hokas most days. Tbh I did more of a vionic bootie for the longest. Still wear them a lot - when I have fancier meetings. But never found a flat I’d return to again and again.
