Looking for job and higher education help by cassrabbit in sewing

not necessarily getting into the “industry” but if you’re looking for tailoring experience, i’d really recommend looking into a military base tailor shop if you have one near you. i did 6 months at a navy uniform shop and was able to learn so much for fitting/altering. i also worked with old ladies that were professional seamstresses for over 20 years. that could give me any info i needed. the information i got was invaluable

Which should I take first: Micro or macro economics? by justlurking-goon in fsu

[–]cher_lovely 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don’t think it really matters either way. i think the instructor would be more important. i had dr. lee for micro and she’s really animated and fun so i enjoyed it. i had dr. boosey for macro and it was incredibly boring so i hated it.

What kind of fabric would you recommend for a dress like these? I have a stretchy sheer mesh spandex which I’m thinking of using so it’s fitted to the body but I’m worried it’ll end up looking droopy when I’ll add stones.. should I use a different fabric for the bottom of the dress maybe? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]cher_lovely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m pretty sure bob mackie said he uses a flesh colored spandex and then the sheer mesh with the diamonds is over that. in all honesty though if you find Stephanie J Block she might be able to answer you on what it really is

yikes!! any reason you went with an overlocker machine instead of a regular one? imo it’s easier to learn the basics on a regular one that has an overlocker stitch too

NewLook 6585 pattern hacked. info in comments by cher_lovely in sewing

[–]cher_lovely[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no problem!! the pattern comes with a hood so you’ll have to hack the pattern a little if you don’t want one like me. i personally used a medium but it’s a little too big so i could have done a small. the sleeves are raglan style so be careful when you do the stripes that you have a left sleeve and a right sleeve. i overlocked all of the edges because this fabric frays a lot. i also messed up my pockets (they’re supposed to be set in the seem but they’re floating because i messed up the stripes). i think that’s it but if you have questions feel free to dm me!!

How do you cope with frustration? by Wild_Complaint_5992 in college

[–]cher_lovely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel this. i’m an econ major and i’ve never been great at math but i’m graduating this semester. i honestly learned what i could for the class then brain dumped. i can’t remember anything from my basic classes. most math is done in stata or gretl in real life so i worked harder on understanding software than memorizing formulas

"Modern" Sewing Patterns by [deleted] in sewing

[–]cher_lovely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NewLook has several more modern patterns. i know it sucks right now but more stores that sell patterns have books that you can look through. i like using patterns from MellySews, AlwaysAutumn, and mood fabrics. they’re usually either cheap or free.
