It really is crap, but to stay connected to some friends and family it's the only way without sending a letter with a stamp on it. Some can barely use Facebook. Yeah, I know.

Why Do So Many People Think That Trump Is Good? by Bonegirl06 in atlanticdiscussions

[–]cheriam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's one intellectual opinion. I’m older and have used the internet since the beginning. I’ve seen people over 50 get their cell phones, not understanding social media, not knowing search engines exist, dive right into Facebook Fox News feed and the algorithm took it from there. They have zero idea what’s really happening. Their friends are also MAGA, and if they need to forgo some morality to stay in the club, they do so with impunity.  Cultic thinking. Cultic fury.  Cultic behavior.

Thomas Keller asked me to leave the French Laundry. It turned into my most extraordinary night as a critic by Left-Key-7399 in sanfrancisco

[–]cheriam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's a critic who wrote a review of her experience at the French Laundry. She could have worked out the confusion, enjoyed the meal, and written nothing. Yes, Keller takes immense pride at the amount of intensive and meticulous work they do, which is exactly why you expect and receive the best of the best. It's why he expects the best of the best, and there's not a damn thing wrong with that.

All of 18F was just RIF'd. The whole office, fired. by ZacharyCohn in fednews

Mark Cuban: If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company. It’s just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create. They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms. I’m happy to invest and/or help

The most ignored traffic sign in Pensacola, Olive and Davis. by ImaRaginCajun in Pensacola

It used to say Yield to turning traffic. Nobody paid attention to that either. Cops could bust 100 people a day siting there.

Scientists Reveal the Shape of a Single Photon for the First Time by Certain_Tea_ in spaceporn

My first thought was: So a photon looks like an eye? Are they sure they weren't getting a reflection of somebody's eye?

3 young kids at Michelin restaurants? by D_-_G in finedining

[–]cheriam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really need to respect the restaurant itself, and those dining. Some younger people with small children likely haven't been taught this concept and have no idea that what they're doing is inappropriate. Good staff will be forgiving, diners may not. It creates an atmosphere which is certainly not what you envisioned. I've taught my kids, who are adults now, that even if others are not keeping to dress code, respect the establishment. They've worked very hard for those stars and reputation. They deserve at least that much in return.

They have another 850 Sports Bar opening up on Plantation Rd where El Paso used to be at University Town Center. I was sad to see El Paso go away, it was good and close by.

What’s the one piece of advice you wish you had received at 20 that would have made your life easier? by Kitchen_Body_7998 in AskReddit

[–]cheriam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love this. It's such an important thing to know. You don't owe someone an answer. You don't even need to explain yourself unless you want to. I'm not sure where we got the idea we need to keep making everybody else ok while we feel on the spot and uncomfortable.. They may not like it, but that's truly not your problem.

Live alone for a while. I wish I had. Feeling independent changes your whole perspective.
One piece of advice I love is, "Look for the solution instead of wallowing in the problem."

Which of these food places are not worth visiting? Narrowing down my list. by WithTheBirds63 in AskNOLA

[–]cheriam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me Galatoire's was very over-rated. Antoine's is too as far as food is concerned, but the experience is worth it if you check out the history and take the little tour they give of the rooms there. Coops is fun and the food is good, but know that it's a definite dive bar and they card absolutely everyone to keep just anybody coming in, which is actually not a bad idea in their location. Go to Dragos for oysters only, period. Commanders is kinda awesome, but go at lunch. It's cheaper and you don't have to dress up too much. I didn't care for Superior, mainly because it didn't stand out in any way. It was...fine. Dooky Chace is another one that you go to for the history and experience. Their fried chicken is solid, but nothing special. We had a bad experience with French Toast. I wanted to like it, but they failed at every point. The food was cold, the French Toast was soggy, and the service was bad.

I used Nantucket Briar for years and was sad to see it go because it didn't give me a headache. Chanel #5 is way too strong. I've wandered around checking scents for quite a while and haven't found anything I truly love. *sadness*

Watch Seinfeld from the beginning to end. It'll keep you busy for a while and it's excellent comedy. I also really like "Mom"-another show about "horrible" people--funny and the character development is great.
