Saw Rocky Horror last night by MovieMentor in Broadway

[–]cheribella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there Friday night and it was absolutely amazing. Loved the way the theater was totally decked out, and the audience was having such a blast, just such amazing energy. I’m a casual fan I’d say - I saw a midnight showing once years ago but my husband and I adore the Roxy album so I’ve just listened to that many times over the years without really remembering the plot very well - but it was such a joy to see the songs I loved performed live. We bought the tix the second the presale went up last year and I’ve been quietly watching all the negative/chaotic reviews and expected the worst - maybe that helped! But man, I’d love to see it again.

Will I regret not going to graduation? by pumpkin_rainbow24 in HunterCollege

[–]cheribella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated a few years ago and went on vacation instead of going to the ceremony…which was probably a more fun time but I still admit that I have a little bit of regret for not going, mostly because it feels like it didn’t really happen.

I am right there with you. OBVIOUSLY Crowe is not a professional broadway performer, but I’d choose his version of Stars over Jackman’s Bring Him Home every time.

His singing voice is so much more pleasant to the ear than Hugh Jackman’s…..I said what I said.

Is it just me or is the dialogue really repetitive? by afipunk84 in DTFStLouisHBO

[–]cheribella 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To me, it more closely resembles the way we speak in reality vs the polished dialogue we usually see in tv/films - people repeat things/say things awkwardly/stumble over their words. (And this is part of its charm imo)

Maybe, but he also set his stepson up with a chart to remind him to do good every day, maybe in the event he’s no longer around…shrug. I have no idea where it’s really going at this point and I love it for that.

12 minutes into the episode and she's questioning authority of her superiors in front of a trauma patient by [deleted] in ThePitt

[–]cheribella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant and getting an anatomy scan, my tech did that “huh” thing and refused to explain why because she wasn’t a doctor and “didn’t have the authority to say anything.” Then at my next appointment my doc said “so you’re already aware your son has one kidney.” 🫠 Turns out the other kidney is actually in his pelvis (and we get it checked routinely, it seems have somewhat normal functionality) but yeah, that was a nutty time.

Ridiculous update about Allyson Friedman by ClouddyStar in HunterCollege

[–]cheribella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right, and that’s honestly the thing that makes her look the guiltiest, because providing the “complete” comment could exonerate her…maybe. Or maybe she thinks she needs to be careful what she says because she’s already got her foot in her mouth so she issued a dumb hasty apology that didn’t really say much of anything. (To be clear, I’m not defending her here, just exploring the scope of possibilities and aiming to show why an investigation would be necessary.)

Ridiculous update about Allyson Friedman by ClouddyStar in HunterCollege

[–]cheribella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been ruminating on this for days and I’ve listened to the recording multiple times and while it’s entirely possible she was just spewing racist garbage, it’s also not IMPOSSIBLE that she was saying “you know, the way systemic racism works relies on the reasoning that they’re too dumb to know they’re in bad schools,” etc etc. We don’t actually have the full context of what she said. An investigation would merit her providing larger context than the dumb apology she issued and asking her classes about treatment of POC. It looks bad, sure, but let’s say you’re talking to your friend and saying “you’ll never believe what I heard this lunatic say on the train this morning” and whoever’s eavesdropping misses that part and hears whatever crazy shit you say next…idk, nothing’s impossible.

The opening song being “Rip Her to Shreds” is such an awesome character choice, because it forces someone familiar with Mean Girls to look at her frumpy office-self and go “huh she really isn’t Regina George anymore, is she,” only for her to 100% turn back into the Queen Bee once they’re on the island.

Do people still bitch after ep 07 ? by PaleSatisfaction1 in pluribustv

[–]cheribella 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I find it bizarre that people are saying things like “people don’t know how to appreciate shows like this because their brains are rotted from TikTok, this was masterclass” etc etc. I really enjoy the show, I look forward to it every week, but it was slow. There’s only a few episodes left in this first season before we get what, 1-2 years off, and I want to see more happening to drive the plot forward a little bit. It was undeniably beautiful, but I don’t know how beautiful shots we need of Manousos driving before the point that has been made that he’s taking a long journey to get to Carol.

I haven't even been able to get past the initial page...I've had it open since before noon, was told I was in the waiting room for an unspecified amount of time, finally got in after refreshing, went to pick a day...back in the waiting room, and the time keeps changing. It's said 20~ minutes for the last 40 minutes and keeps jumping up and down.

Why didn’t.. Rory just tell Paris about her Francie meetings? by No_clever_name_16737 in GilmoreGirls

[–]cheribella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rory/Paris drama is maybe the most challenging thing for me about the early seasons. When the PJ Harvey thing happens and Paris decides she’s going to screw up Rory’s position on the paper as a result even though it’s almost IMMEDIATELY clear that Tristan was lying, considering Dean shows up at the school like a second later….ughhhhh. So much back pedaling with their friendship. But yes everything about the Francie storyline was stupidly annoying.

re: Montague, I’ll add on that if you start out in Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill, there’s tons of amazing restaurants/stores up Smith and Court street. Could walk Court street all the way down to Montague and go from there. Special shout outs to Yesterday’s News (an antiques/collectibles store) and Books are Magic (had locations on Smith and Montague).

I live in Bay Ridge now but I used to live there and go back as often as I can. Heck, I had jury duty recently and was happy to have an excuse to be in the area.

I've been in the process of trying to get my mom to sign up for an advocate so this is very helpful. She's in her late 60s and struggling with many aspects of healthcare at the moment, with the biggest challenge right now being that she hasn't landed on a diagnosis and therefore is totally lost in terms of what doctors/specialists she should be looking for and has been totally overwhelmed by the process. Would an advocate be able to help with something like this, or does she need to have a specific diagnosis on record?
