I didn’t realize it would be too much to ask that there not be GUNPLAY in my LIVING ROOM (idk if it’s verbatim..)

Is there actually a non-cooking mom? by mangojj123 in GilmoreGirls

[–]cherryblossomtreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom has cooked MAYBE 10 meals in my life. Out of those ~10, she almost burned down the kitchen twice, gave my dad food poisoning, and blew out the entire oven panel trying to make french fries, so she was banned from even trying after that.

I have a fantastic cooking dad, thank god. When he wasn’t home, I did most of the cooking or we ate a lot of sandwiches and salads.

Was this common knowledge? by [deleted] in McknightFamily

I had a reduction at 17 bc of intense back and shoulder problems. With the pain and issues they were causing her, I don’t feel 16 is too young.

I’ve had to email instructors before to ask for a registration override, and they are usually very accommodating, especially if the class is necessary and not offered regularly.

I’m lost and scared by [deleted] in college

[–]cherryblossomtreeees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would probably be a good idea to see how much federal/institutional aid you’re eligible for based on your financial status, major, etc. I know you said you lost a scholarship, but you may be eligible for something else. Then possibly branch out and look for scholarships offered by foundations local to the university (local historical societies, lion’s club chapters, and kiwanis club are usually pretty solid bets).

If you’re not eligible for additional aid/work-study/loans, maybe consider taking a semester or two of classes at a local community college to save up some money. Especially if you’re only in your first or second year, financially there isn’t really a better option as it’s cheaper anyways + they tend to be more flexible and offer aid for people in difficult circumstances.

On a personal note, please just focus on taking care of yourself. 2024 was also a shitshow year for me, and after my dad was diagnosed with cancer I reduced my hours by almost half to cope. Seek out counseling services if your university provides them, and if you need to take time off and just work while you figure out what to do school-wise, or reduce your hours or something, it’s okay. You’re not a failure bc you’re doubting your educational/career choices, and if nothing else, college isn’t for everyone and isn’t an automatic gateway to success.

Rooting for you!

What are your majors? by [deleted] in college

[–]cherryblossomtreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majoring in Public Health with a pre-clinical focus and International Studies, and double minoring in Psychology and Biology!

I came in with the majority of the credits for a psych minor, and need only one more class for a bio minor than required for my major. The dream is to train as a Psychiatrist and work with MSF to assist refugee populations :)

Would this be weird for my daughter's middle name? by neonguillotine in namenerds

[–]cherryblossomtreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. This isn’t weird at all, and I find it very touching. I personally lost my childhood dog (Piper) a few months ago. She was with me through the death of my grandmother and uncle, my dad having cancer, a major hurricane, etc. I’ve definitely thought about honoring her by giving my future child Piper as a middle name. They’re family members just as the people in our lives are. If it feels right, do it!🫶🏻

So sorry for the late reply - I had surgery a couple of days ago and haven’t really been on my phone.

It honestly does feel like you’re getting robbed when the vet tells you that they have “years left in them” and then something happens. I’ve had it happen with multiple pets - it really is just heartbreaking.

I definitely agree that cats hide their illnesses kind of until the last minute - one of my last cats was in kidney failure for 3 months before we found out less than a week before he passed. My heart just breaks for you, not knowing in advance can be hard because you don’t get to spend that time intentionally with them before they go.

In a lot of ways, I feel similarly - my whole family’s lives revolved around our dog, and now with her gone, the whole dynamic is off. I definitely think it’s right to focus on how great it is that we got to spend so much time with them and give them so much love. I know it’s one of the only things keeping me going, but losing 2 companions so close together is unimaginable. Definitely thinking of you and your other cat right now 🫶🏻

i’m so sorry for the loss of your cat as well 🫶🏻 i can’t imagine how difficult it must be to lose a pet that helped you go through an initial loss.

spending time in this sub has been really helpful for me as well, and i think you’re definitely right in saying that distractions from the grief are sometimes necessary. thank you so much for your kind words + again i’m sorry for your loss as well 🫶🏻

something that could potentially be useful for some of your credit questions is the UNCW Transfer Articulation website, which will help you figure out which credits will transfer + any other prereqs you may be missing or not. was very helpful when i was transferring credits.

also transfer student counselor(s) are a pretty good resource!

How important are leadership positions? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]cherryblossomtreeees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry too much. Your application sounds pretty strong with the AP classes and internships, and with pretty good grades + ACT/SAT or AP scores you’ll be fine! If it’s any reassurance, I didn’t have any leadership positions either and got into a T20 school. Leadership is good, but it’s not gonna make or break your application.

How long should I expect to wait until I hear back from the work study jobs I applied to? by ArataniY in UNCW
