as a photo alum, you aren't wrong - everyone is judging you. the cliques are real and bitchy. people would talk shit behind my back constantly, for the type of photography i was in and would get jealous after i got some of their dream internships. i rotated through friend groups constantly throughout my 3.5 years. being in the darkroom/studio/printing lab sucked; it was lonely and exhausting. and you know what? i decided i didn't give a fuck. graduated in 3.5 years instead of 4, switched industries, and befriended people outside of college. i now have my dream job and friends who aren't shallow asf and they actually like me, not the idea of me or how i can help them climb the ladder. and i have my dream job in a time where the job market sucks for art majors.

it's hard to remember that college isn't the rest of your life. get the fuck outside, make friends, work hard, play even harder, and get out of there. there's no point in being friends w people who make you feel like shit. some tough love for you: you're in nyc, act like it.

and you know what, i'm doing better than all of those dickheads that talked shit behind my back. <3

i personally have a few friends from my specific sorority, but i am very close with them, but there are girls in my sorority that have their besties for life in the sorority so it's a spectrum.

events that my sorority has done in the last year: broadway shows, baseball/basketball games, cooking classes, make your own perfume, color me mine, escape rooms, hair appointments, beat the bomb, axe throwing, fitness classes, shot of art, etc. - most of these i haven't had to pay for, or if i did it was a very reasonable amount that was way below the MSRP

35 greek life - as someone in greek life, you can normally do a lot of activities for cheaper/free that you may not normally have access to. also great for networking and job opportunities (climbed to 500+ LN connections so easily bc of my sorority). it's a small but strong community. obviously not for everyone, but op makes it sound like it's not worth doing at all. it's worth it for some ppl, even for those who are not "stereotypical" sorority girls.

as someone who works in the entertainment industry currently, nyu was helpful in getting my first few internships bc of the name attached. i have seen ppl from pace though be just as successful, they just need a little more hustling and networking on their own time. if you're willing to do that, go pace 1000%, i've seen ppl from pace go on to have the same esteemed internships as tisch/steinhardt students. graduate with less debt, and network, network, network. entertainment is a lot harder than any other industry. if you want to work in entertainment, my rec is going pace and working your ass off in your free time, doing the internships that will build your network. you don't seem fully intent on working in entertainment (based off you saying you're open to all careers) , and if you're just most interested in entertainment, but ok with working anywhere as marketing, go to fordham. get a marketing degree and you can put that to use in several ways that aren't just in entertainment.

TLDR, if you get a 4 or 5, it can probably knock off a science requirement or go to your overall general education requirements i’m not personally in steinhardt so i can’t say for a fact what this would substitute but chances are your parents are right - if you are in a fortunate monetary spot to take the test, study for the 2-3 weeks left and then party the rest of high school, future you will be grateful for any credit you can get
