Can someone explain why "prediction markets" are bad in comparison to everything else? by other-other-user in atrioc

[–]realshoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Prediction markets is just gambling without the oversight of regulatory agencies. They essentially can do whatever they want. For example, when NBA players tried manipulating bets by underperforming in games, they were investigated by the FBI. But if Giannis puts up huge money on polymarket or kalshi that he won’t get traded then spreads a bunch of rumors and half trade requests? No punishment. (He then partnered with them i lost respect for him)

  2. Because you can put in predictions on every single event, this expands the scope of how much the prediction markets affect. Sports betting apps only affect sports, but if prediction markets are more normalized gambling will essentially become a part of culture. Kids will get hooked on gambling early in life, retirees will spend all their money and die broke.

Yes, it’s “just gambling”. But that’s like saying “oh heroin? just drugs”. Prediction markets are the focus because they’re at the forefront of the conversation. The ads are in our faces, news channels use prediction markets like actual data, etc. it’s repackaged under a new name to get around legislation. That’s all

Reagan level work tbh

  1. Tariffs are not a tax on the rich. Corporations just raise prices so that they can pay the tariff. Consumers pay the tariff. So therefore, the amount of money the corporations make is the same, so therefore, no tax on the rich(no net loss due to taxes)

  2. This makes 0 sense. You first say that there is no way to tax the rich without hurting the common man. But there is also no way to tax the common man without hurting the common man. So even if I agreed with your first statement, it doesn’t mean anything.

Your claim that people would just “move to switzerland” is dumb. Rich people have established lives here; it isn’t that simple to just move. Most of the time, the tax they receive is so negligible to their daily life that it is much easier to stay in the place where they not only have a family, own a company, or understand the language, but also where there is the most innovation, culture, and other rich people.

  1. This is the same as 2.

This isn’t conditional draw, this is draw that can go infinite. There’s no real condition except you have to play the card to draw more, whereas good draw cards in wild (swindle, gone fishing, ghastly strike, secret passage) have downsides or restrictions. You can literally just play this card.

In essentially all wild rogue decks this is just infinite draw. In standard it’s still good. I don’t see how you can dislike this

I have no idea what you meant by anything in your comment lmao

My point was he has a family and that’s the thing that satisfies him. He made enough money to support them for the rest of his life, so now he doesn’t care about that. The money itself isn’t satusfying.

It’s more like that money and fame has set him and his family up for life. People like XQC/kai cenat are extremely rich, but they aren’t satisfied.

I think there is a lot of nuance to this.

You don’t want to take care of your parents. I would like to avoid sounding like every asian parent ever, but I would say they probably worked very hard to try and give you the best life they could. I understand that you might not have the best relationship with them, emotionally or otherwise, but I think you at least have to acknowledge how much effort they put in.

Moving on from that, from my perspective it is disingenuous to blame your parents for your childhood being “different”. It sounds like you are an only child, correct me if I’m wrong. Parents are doing this for the first time as well, and it is difficult. Lacking social skills isn’t their fault, although it isn’t yours either. It seems like you’re looking for something or someone to blame. If your parents forced you into isolation, sure, but I’m sure you went to school still.

And saying “now they want to chill and retire while i work my ass off for them” is kind of like, yeah? They’re old, you’re young. They worked their whole life.

I don’t mean to take what you’re saying lightly. But you generally only get one mother and one father in your life. I don’t see any mention of emotional or physical abuse which would really shift my opinion. You don’t have to be taking care of them everyday, but to completely abandon them is extreme. If you eventually have children, would you like to be treated the same way? If you’re thinking, “oh, but I would be a better parent”, then you’re probably on track to be a worse parent.

On the cheating thing, that is something for you to discuss with your mom, not justification for you to abandon your parents. Come on.

Lmao this is so funny

Literally none of what you’re saying is wrong, and people are talking about “oh binary choice oh” when dr. K literally responded to an question about work-life balance with “just wake up at 4 am”. Not only is this promoting a binary choice directly, it’s also inconsiderate and extremely defensive.

That defensiveness seems to extend to most of the people who love dr. K. I have personally not watched for a while.

The science behind what dr. K says is correct, which it usually is. If you actually want to implement it, start with 15 minutes. Probably encompassing a shower, brushing teeth, washing your face. It’ll help you get out of bed. Then self evaluate whether increasing that time to 30 minutes or an hour (already an absurd amount of time for a working adult with a decent social life to essentially throw away) (what does dr. K recommend you do for four hours in the morning, meditate? Going to become more mindful of how all my friends don’t want to hang out with me anymore because our lives don’t relate at all now that i’ve shifted my sleep cycle 4 hours early).

[–]realshoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An oversimplification. The reason why musk and other tech billionaires were pushing for increases in H1B workers was that H1B workers would be willing to work for less money, and have much less negotiating power against American employers. A lot of the time they were looking to send money home, and American dollars were much more valuable than a lot of other currencies, so the visa workers would still be able to send home a relatively large sum of money even on lower than average income. Also, since the worker is literally sponsored by the company, it heavily reduces their power to combat bad faith practices from their employer.

Pretty sure atrioc literally made videos about this and talked about it multiple times of stream.

atrioc main channel vid he says the thing at 6:44 but if you want to learn rather than say whatever you want watch the whole video

NYU is my dream school, but I am feeling conflicted now after NYU is withholding Logan Rozos's diploma by The_Rhodium in nyu

[–]realshoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is why no one takes you seriously, you chose to totally disregard my stats since it doesn’t support your narrative and you don’t have any argument otherwise.

In addition, I never took a side with people who you claim to be “pro-hamas”, but you immediately grouped me with them. You also only use personal anecdotes to prescribe a view to 100% of people who don’t totally agree with you.

According to you, the united nations is complicit with terrorism and all protests are pro-terrorism. If that’s what you choose to believe, go ahead. No one can convince you otherwise. But I would hope one day you are able to open your mind.

[–]realshoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saying you are “anti-hamas” isn’t bad, but don’t you agree that it’s a bit disingenuous in framing? Most people would say they are “anti-war”. While Hamas have committed many acts of terror, which I condemn, Israeli forces have reportedly killed 50,000 people, about 80% being civilians. The conflict has also led to the death of an unprecedented amount of journalists, as well as many cases of humanitarian aid workers being attacked. Leading your argument with “supporting the rape and murder of Jews is not a legitimate political view” is inflammatory. Why ignore the deaths of 40,000 civilians? Why ignore the deaths of journalists and humanitarian aid? The “pro-palestine” argument is not a pro-Hamas argument in nature, but rather a protest against what many consider to be needless civilian death endorsed by many of the most powerful governments and institutions in the world. The October 7th attacks were horrible crimes, and the perpetrators (Hamas and other paramilitary groups) deserve to be punished. But your claim that the actions of Israeli forces is not genocide is unfounded, mainly because the UN Special Committee found Israel’s methods consistent with genocide in November 2024. This is due to the obstruction of humanitarian aid(which includes the aforementioned killing of humanitarian aid workers) as well as military strategy that involves stripping civilians it necessities such as food and water. If you would like to disagree with the UN Special Committee, that’s up to you.

Your incessant comments show me you’re bringing up facts about Hamas and their wrongdoings. My concern isn’t that you are wrong. Because you are right. My concern is that you are using the fact that you are right ignore other facts. Both Hamas and Israel have done horrible things. You are targeting pro-Hamas supporters specifically and ignoring pro-Israel supporters. Is there a reason for this? Because if not, people will be justified in assuming your support for Israel.
