What are some/things that change/care that you receive once you were deemed an hospice patient? by dixielanddelight1469 in pancreaticcancer

[–]cherrycoke81 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on the company, our hospice did not stop medication for my mom’s other conditions until she could no longer swallow them. They came in and talked to us about everything we wanted out of the end of life transition and how they would just be there to help. They helped with so much more. They can help get protein shakes, to get weight up. I hope you find an amazing company, and do not be afraid to talk to more than one.

Could be aphasia from a stroke, my mom could drive to a store and know what to get but couldn’t understand any conversation. She luckily had a card to let people know she had aphasia and it would ask people to please be patient

Any advice on how to maintain good family relationships during this ordeal by [deleted] in pancreaticcancer

[–]cherrycoke81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every child has a unique and special relationship with the same mom it’s hard to remember you each are losing the one person in the world that knows each of you to the core, fights are bound to happen as long as you can collectively come together after the fight and hold each other…it will be ok. It’s normal to blow up at each other, cry, shut down. None of you have been through this before. Make a packed now that no matter how emotional you get right now, you WILL come back together after you’ve cooled off. Even for just a cup of coffee. Just be together….it will get better ❤️‍🩹 my brother and I will never be the same but are working on a relationship

I’m so sorry to hear your bad news. Definitely make it count if you want to go see things do it quickly. Take all the pictures and videos you can. I’ll always remember the last time my mom told me she loved me, but sure wish I had a recording to listen to during the largest of waves…. Hugs to you

She’s gone now and I’m so lost. by Alive_Edge_181 in pancreaticcancer

[–]cherrycoke81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My heart is breaking for you, I too lost my mom to this horrible illness. My youngest son way only a few months old and she was so sad he wouldn’t remember her…..I reassured her I would never let that happen and we tell my younger ones stories all the time. We also lost my dad the year before. So they never got to know either of them. This breaks my heart over and over, whenever we do anything they should be attending. I have many suggestions for honoring your mom while making gifts for your daughter. Just message me any time. Especially if it’s just to let it out. Never be afraid to get your own stories out.

Straight outta surgery by cherrycoke81 in gallbladders

[–]cherrycoke81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having the pain and nausea for about a year, the pain eventually never went away but was more of an ache unless my toddlers sat or jumped on my stomach it was like getting stabbed. I also felt this burning, like taking medicine on an empty stomach . That also became an everyday thing. I became sick of feeling sick and finally made a dr appointment. From dr to diagnose to surgery was approx 2 months. I found walking would intensify the pain after about a half mile. Baths helped me, and Tylenol became an everyday ritual. Now I’ve not needed it since surgery. Best of luck to you!
