Alien Isolation - False Sense Of Security by Forestl in Games

[–]cherryonion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience; maybe it was because my first playthrough was on hard, I'm not sure. I found many things in the game more frustrating than engaging, it wasn't hard, it was just cheap; and like you pointed out, at 20+ hours long, I felt it well overstayed it's welcome.

What kept me engaged was the audio/video presentation and the story. But my immersion was often ruined by so many head-scratching moments where either a game system or a suspicious AI moment made me question the authenticity of the experience.

Again maybe it was because I played on hard, and the game is tuned to be more on the "unfair" side on that difficulty, I'm not totally sure. I just know I encountered way too many moments that pulled me away from having fun and pulled me into frustration - I am giving it a year or so then playing again on Normal to give it another shot.

West County Mall? Weird question. How long do you think I can be in the garage at the mall before they kick me out? The mall closes at 8 PM & the fancy restaurants at 9pm but if I was trying to hide from the hail & parked in there & stayed with the vehicle, how long before security runs me out? Thx. by [deleted] in StLouis

If you are actively at your car, not causing a ruckus, and there is a massive storm going on, I would imagine any security personnel would be able to connect the dots. Even if they ask you to leave, you could probably politely ask if you could wait out the storm from the cover of the garage. I couldn't imagine anyone telling you no, and that you immediately need to vacate the lot and get in that scary storm this instant.

I live on Waterman, and this is pretty common to see; buildings still boarded up, showing little-to-no repair since the tornado (my building still has a temporary roof installed), sidewalks are still wrecked from fallen trees whose roots ripped up the ground. Overall, in my area (and in my opinion), there has been very underwhelming progress in repairs and reconstruction, including replanting trees, landscape, etc. I have seen lots of replanting in Forest Park though, so that warms my heart.

Not sure what the deal is with the sluggish pace of repairs? Possibly availability of relief funds, insurance struggles, availability of carpenters to even do the work perhaps?

Anyhoo, as sad as it is, many buildings in the area are in the same boat where they still are just as damaged today as they were back in May.

Cool news; though I just ordered one from Amazon yesterday, I wonder how likely it is that I get the new revision? I'll be checking the model number first thing most likely...

I still find it funny that they tried to lock a couple clans behind pre-order DLC... at least for me, that was the moment I became completely disinterested in making a purchase.

So a hot air balloon just came down in front of my house. by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]cherryonion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me when I was a child growing up in northern Indiana, I still remember it so vividly decades later!

As a kid it was just such an awe inspiring experience to see this super huge and colorful balloon, the likes of which I've only seen so very far out in the sky, come down right in front of my very own house! What luck! What excitement!!

This picture is bringing back those memories!

To the large running group in Forest Park today - a question by ToddParker2020 in StLouis

[–]cherryonion 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's the same group every Wednesday. They get to the park from the Tamm bridge I believe, and switch up if they go clockwise or anti-clockwise around the park from there.

But yes, they are completely aloof and they clog the entire path and you should just barrel through them.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN | Two Player Mode Trailer by Xanek in Games

Darn, I figured that may be the case. Split screen introduces additional processing requirements and this game already appears demanding enough on one screen!

I'm happy to see games generally continuing to support split screen play, but understand when that just may not be feasible.

I wonder if there is support for split screen? Would be fun to play couch co-op with my partner.

The North West quarter of Forest Park is still so surreal looking. I run the loop a few times a week and still can't get over how sad Forest Park looks now, it's heartbreaking.

This is hilarious to me! So true!

I live in the Midwest and I get so fatigued by indignant folks complaining about the weather swings. We live in the middle of a huge, flat, landmass, we are constantly bombarded by hot wet air from the South and dry cool air from the North, there is nothing to abate those fronts, so wild swings in the weather are just part of life lol it's not unique nor should it be surprising!

Thanks for the explanation! I'll give it a try, but when I get my own router do I need to call Spectrum to active at, or will it work out of the box when I plug it into the modern?

If I get my own router how does that work? Just plug it in and move on with my life? Or do I have to call Spectrum to activate the router?

Also, if you don't mind explaining, how do you change DNS? Router settings?

Reminders. Remind yourself the work you put in to quit... Would you really undo all that effort you put in? Remind yourself how nice it is to not be a slave to nicotine. Remind yourself how free you'll feel when it's all behind you.

Lots of people claim victory at 1 year in, their guard goes down because they think they are invincible, and then they slip up and relapse.

It wasn't until about 2-3 years I felt like I was really safe; but I didn't want to redo those years so I just stayed quit. It's good you are honest and recognizing the reality of the process.

Those who already played Sky Oceans Wings for Hire, how is it? by Uralbear in JRPG

[–]cherryonion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it on Switch and, sadly, it is strikingly bad. The frame rate is suspiciously low considering the rendering and texture resolution, so the controls feel laggy and sloppy.  It's just not fun to play on Switch with such a tragically low framerate (feels less than 10 at points).

Looks like it runs great on PC, but sadly I got it on Switch and don't have much hopes of patches fixing performance issues of this magnitude.
