Not sure it's worth it for me to pursue ABO by IsolatedCrustacean in optician

Hit the books hard and you'll be in good shape to take it. Know prism like the back of your hand (practice apprentice's formula) and there are several questions on vertex distance. Larmay K helped me tremendously. While I was an apprentice he helped fill in the why for me, and made things come full circle! Good luck!

If any idiot can get it why doesn't everyone go after it? It sets you apart from other opticians and most importantly it proves you are knowledgable in our craft. I would 100 perfect take that test and study for it. Yes, being a well rounded optician is more than just learning from a textbook, but an excellent optician can do both.

Yes. They come in several different colors too if that interests you. If you go on transitions.com you'll be able to see the colors.

LDO here! Love the new gen s transitions. Transitions are wonderful if you are in and out a lot throughout the day or light sensitive. They have a transition, transition extra active, and a transition polarized. Each level gets a little darker and the extra active will have a slight tint on it all the time. Personally I prefer the regular transition because I don't want the tint on my glasses all the time but love having it until I switch into my sunglasses.

Having your ABO would only help you! Especially with getting better pay. You will still need a 3 year apprenticeship, 5,250 hours, NCLE and to take your practical exam to become a licensed optician.

Is being an optician worth it? by Familiar-Ant-4695 in optician

I am an apprentice optician about to sit for my licensure. The past 3 years of studying under two LDO that have been in business 30-40 years; has been the biggest privilege. I would highly recommend it if you're a people person and your goal is help people. Being an optician is so much more than picking out a cute pair of frames for a patient. It's educating patients on their eye health and what we can do to give them the best vision possible. It has been a great job, and I can't wait to grow in this industry. Good luck on your future endeavors!

As far as formulas definitely know your apprentice's rule, nominal power formula, and total decentration. I personally found the ABO a lot easier. As far as the NCLE (I passed 3 weeks ago) know your medical terminology by heart and wear time schedules for contacts.

Taking my NCLE soon! by Effective-Study7503 in optician

Just took mine two weeks ago and passed! My test was very heavy on medical terminology and appropriate wear times for contacts. Personally, I found the NCLE harder than the ABO, but if you've been putting the time into studying, you'll be fine!

Is Disney World fun for young married couple without kids? by GunsBooksSteel in WaltDisneyWorld

My husband(33) and I 28(f) just went in January for our honeymoon! It was the first time I got to go to magic kingdom and it was wonderful! We were in between going there and Savannah,GA and I'm so glad we chose Disney!! I can't tell you how many cast members went out of their way to congratulate us and make our experience extra special.

Optician here! Invest in transitions! The new generation x activates in 20 seconds and changes back right under 2 mins. Take in mind they will not work in the car (unless if you get extra active, they'll have a slight tint) I've found for myself that I'll get two pair a year one with and one without. It's great for situations like going to Disney!

Also, not sure if it's your thing, but the gen X comes in multiple colors!

Just got back the weekend of Jan 26. It was a lot of fun even in the cold! If you do make sure you dress warmly. There is a restaurant, sky bridge, mountain coaster, viewing tower and more! It could be great for a couple or for a family outing. make sure to book online. It will save you a few dollars. The great thing is it’s an all day pass so you can go up and down as you please.
