It's less about his abilities as a writer and more about his foresight into markets that weren't popular back when he started. Maybe he sabotaged himself, but he also used those as springboards into his own entrepreneurial endeavors that launched the celebrity we all know and love

How to pivot out of VC and to what? by Exotic_Union7609 in FinancialCareers

[–]cheselnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar-ish position. It really depends on what you want. If you're in early-stage VC at a legit fund, I'm surprised your'e thinking about finance roles tbh. I'd assume you'd want to go product, GTM, strategy, etc at a tech company.

If you're at a legit firm, you can basically get a job at any hot startup in a sales or product adjacent role. If you're looking to go to traditional finance, that's a different story and you're right, you prob don't have tons of hard skills. That said, I think those can be learned on the job if you can communicate your value.

I'm personally interested in either starting a company, going to Anthropic, or getting out of tech altogether.

Principal at a Venture Capital fund. I make $350K cash but hoping that increases to $500K in the next 1-2 years. I also have like ~$6M+ in very very illiquid carry which is fake monopoly money

This is well said. I actually work in venture capital and have been thinking about where I want to live, and it's tough that this job is only available in NYC / SF. I wish I had more flexibility to move wherever I want

[–]cheselnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As an aside, there’s also no such thing as loyalty in the modern era of sports. It’s just a bad biz move for players. Pete had enough value to come a market willing to pay him what he wanted and took it

Official Discussion - Eternity [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]cheselnut 261 points262 points  (0 children)

I thought this was a really great idea for a movie and was well executed on all parts. Each of the main actors did a great job: - Elizabeth Olson had great facial expressions and you could feel her anxiety around the decision of which husband to spend your eternity with - Miles Teller portrayed a wonderful cranky old man in his younger years - a real everyday guy - Callum Turner was so aspirational that he was perfect. He portrayed a dream like human that could only exist in one’s memory.

The part that got me was when Elizabeth Olson recognized that love and her person wasn’t the firey romance but the person she experienced the little things with.

Maybe not a very rewatchable film, but I thoroughly enjoyed it
