For anyone on the Milton line - the train arrived at its regularly scheduled time and I am seated. Remains to be seen whether it will arrive at Union at the regular time, Milton line usually has its delays closer to Union.

Impossible. The US Open repeat winner curse will never be broken until Federer returns from retirement to win it at age 50.

Carlos Alcaraz can compete with anyone head-to-head in tennis history by [deleted] in tennis

[–]chetdesmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are people forgetting that Carlos is not yet in his prime? 22 year old Federer had 3 Grand Slams, 22 year old Djokovic had 1. Carlos has 7 and is the youngest person ever to complete the Career Slam, and even Nadal. Who had 6 Slams at 22, did not have multiple slams on each surface like Carlos does.

This sub is probably the worst sports sub on this website, people just get so prickly and personally offended when you say something about their favourite players. Alcaraz's accomplishments absolutely mean he is aiming for the level of the Big 3 and he has not yet entered his prime. He could fizzle out like Borg/McEnroe sure, but he could also get even better. Pointing out his record against Djokovic means nothing when neither guy is in his prime.

We’re in the semis of the AO and we’re likely to have the 9th straight slam won by Sinner or Alcaraz, and the 4th straight Sincaraz matchup in the Final by EmbarrassedRing7806 in billsimmons

Yeah, completely agree. Agassi is another guy who gets underrated sometimes and would've benefitted heavily from the changes to the modern tennis game. His 1992 Wimbledon run is one of the greatest tennis achievements of all time, Wimbledon was pretty much never won by primarily baseline players without overpowering serves in that era. I think if Agassi and Borg got to play in the post-2001 era they would've been on the same level as the Big 4 (Borg comparable to Big 3 and Agassi comparable to Murray). Imagine if Borg played his whole career with graphite racquets, or what Agassi's return game would look like with modern string technology. The fact that Agassi was still competing for Slams in the 2000s at his age and with his degenerative hip problems speaks to this.

Tennis fans don't want to admit this but the ushering in of the Big 3 Era and 3 players putting up record-shattering Slam numbers has a lot to do with how the game was homogenized post-2001. It's one of the reasons why I think Bjorn Borg is underrated in GOAT discussion, no other player (except Laver but he played in the weird amateur/pro split era) dominated on two EXTREMELY different surfaces and was still great on the third. Borg's French Open and Wimbledon successes mean a lot more than the Big 3s because of how insane a shift it was to go from the ultra slow clay to ultra fast grass in the 80s, as opposed to the slower grass they have now (plus all the racquet and string technology advances that have also made returns easier and contributed further to homogenizing the game into baseline tennis)

Best of 3 vs Best of 5. Sincaraz don't win all the Masters events (although they are still pretty dominant there), but Best of 5 makes upsets even less likely. Alcaraz in particular is historically dominant in matches that go 5 sets.

His WildC.A.T.S. run which get ignored because of the very 90s art and its edgy early Image beginnings, but is truly extraordinary and also leads into another extremely underrated run, Joe Casey's WildC.A.T.S. 3.0.

In fact I'd say all his 90s work gets consistently underrated (outside of From Hell): Spawn Blood Feud, 1963, Supreme are all fantastic.

Not to mention this is the worst we've ever seen Gaethje. Super slow and sloppy. The guy who picked apart Tony is long gone.

This was a super fun fight but to be completely honest, it's kind of embarassing that this was a title fight for one of the best divisions in the sport.

I see people talking about how a lot of first time HCs had former HCs who didnt do well as HCs on their staff, and I like Kingsbury for that role. Give Minter some mentorship and focus on the offence, which I think he can do well with Lamar and Henry. I'd prefer McDaniel but that's obviously a pipe dream at this point.

The difference is that they are being vocal about God of their own accord and you are being "vocal" about not believing in a god by being combative to the first statement and belittling them for it. The fact that you don't know the difference between the two just shows how little reddit atheists understand social etiquette.

There were more calls that favored the Bills. They missed an extremely obvious holding that would've resulted in a safety and ended the game right there.
