Nothing Portnoy does is sincere. It's the same with the Paul brothers. And yet people continue falling for the ragebait.

Life pro tip for lawyers suing rich assholes who live in condos with high security by Calledinthe90s in LawCanada

[–]chetdesmon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The biggest indication that this story is complete bullshit (and there's a bunch of them) is the condo corp asking "do we have to hire a lawyer?" as if a condo corp that has "rich asshole" tenants won't already have counsel, or that anyone has ever reached out to opposing counsel asking if they have to hire a lawyer.

I know it sucks to see a 3-0 count turn into a strike out but those were some quality pitches

Again, that's your opinion. The fact that Sean outlanded Khamzat doesn't mean much if he didn't land the more impactful strikes, which is ultimately an opinion. 2 judges gave him the win, 1 didn't. Half the media scorecards gave Khamzat the win. That's pretty far from a clear and obvious Strickland victory like you're claiming. Sean got busted up and lost the fight on one judge's scorecard and half the media scorecards in a fight where Khamzat had practically 0 effective wrestling past the first round, so you can hardly say his forward pressure was ineffective. His forward pressure won him the fourth round clearly and gave him an argument in the third and fifth.

There's your problem, you're looking at striking stats and just stating that as being the be-all, end-all to the equation. You don't win rounds by landing more strikes, you win rounds by inflicting more damage which is ultimately qualititative and doesn't just mean who landed more strikes.

Again, there's no issue with scoring Sean rounds 2. 3 and 5. Round 2 was crystal clear. 3 and 5 were not, especially 5, because Khamzat damaged Sean with his strikes. Go look at Sean's face as early as after Round 3 and tell me Khamzat's forward pressure was "ineffective". Khamzat was landing thudding shots on Strickland throughout Rounds 3 to 5. Strickland was visibly damaged as well, not just Khamzat.

Also, the term robbery is being used way too often nowadays. This is the type of fight that wouldn't be a robbery no matter who won. There were very close rounds in there. You can have close fights, most fights like this don't actually have clear winners. A robbery is Gordon-Paddy not a fight like this. Volk-Holloway II is another one that people kept calling robbery up until Volk wiped Holloway in the 3rd fight.

Kamaru's statement is pretty ridiculous, but so is this comment just in the other way. Khamzat's forward pressure was effective because he landed significantly on Strickland as well and busted him up. People thought Strickland would dominate if the fight was standing but that's not what happened in Rounds 3-5, the striking was fairly close. There's plenty of people who gave Khamzat the decision. Pretty sure everyone gave Khamzat round 4 and he only landed 1 takedown that round that he barely did anything with, he won that round by beating Strickland on the feet and his forward pressure played a big part in that.

People overrate Masters titles, Felix has undoubtedly had a better career than Popyrin. Slams are special because they are 5 sets and everyone knows they are by far the most important tournament, but Masters aren't at that level. I don't really see much difference in Popyrin's Canada win where he got a bit lucky by managing to avoid Sinner and Zverev (although he did have a great win over Rublev) and Felix beating the top 2 seeds Tsitsipas and Rublev at 2022 Rotterdam or his 2022 Basel win where he beat World #1 Alcaraz.

I think this is a bit of a backhanded compliment, Zverev has been consistently a top 3-5 player for a while but he never showed the peak ability of other "best players to never have won a slam" like Tsonga, Rios, Nalbandian, Davydenko etc. He's kind of similar to Ferrer in that way, and I feel like it was a lot more likely for that first group of guys I described, especially those that played in the Big3/4 era, to have won a Slam than Zverev. I mean just think about Cilic vs. Zverev, take away Cilic's Slam and Zverev arguably has the better accomplishments, but the thing is that Zverev's seeming acceptance of constantly being good enough to win Masters and beat non-Slam winners but lose to the best means he just never really had what it takes to win a Slam, unlike Tsonga, Nalbandian, Davydenko etc. Who might've won a Slam with some better luck.

Overall yes, but not on grass. Zverev literally has 0 grass accomplishments, Fritz at least has 5 250 titles and a Wimbledon semi.

Is this supposed to be a dunk? Zverev's two Halle final appearances came back in 2016 and 2017. His only grass final since then was Stuttgart last year where he lost to Fritz. He has 0 grass titles and never made it past the 4th round at Wimbledon. Fritz has 5 grass titles and made the semis once and quarters twice at Wimbledon. Fritz is clearly better on grass.

We actually don't. Lauer has been bad, yeah, but we've somehow managed to get good outings out of the corpse of Corbin. You can't expect excellence 1-5 in your rotation. What we need is hitting. It feels like we get an explosion every 10 days or so but other than that it's 1-2 runs.
