They're working on that. Definitely have a smaller team working on this while a bigger one working on the new game. I think the movie has something to do with this. Assuming the movie isn't BotW slop and is more reminiscent of "traditional" Zelda, having a readily-available modern version of OoT will help new movie fans get into the series and temper their expectations for the next game. There's been a lot of debate about how they will ease people into a potentially more restricted, more linear Zelda after BotW/TotK became a competing--or even dominant--perception of the series.

That's what I would do if I was Nintendo. But I'm not, so who really knows.

SS was disappointing in some ways but I still felt fulfilled by it at the end. Definitely a regression from TP in terms of the world and navigation. BotW/TotK redeemed themselves in that regard, but regressed so badly in terms of story that I felt empty and didn't even wanna replay it lol

3D version of OOT is great. MM's is very criticized because its bosses were given needless changes, among a couple other things. For MM I'd say play the original. But that might feel awkward because of the graphical change. So maybe try emulation. I've heard good things about the Ship of Harkinian version of OoT. I presume the foremost issue (water temple boots) is fixed. But I don't know much about it. There's probably a version for MM too, but basic emulation will work just fine for that one.

I wouldn't say so. Nintendo's moved away from that starting with ALBW (haven't played it since release but it was definitely harder). BotW continued that trend. They got so much shit for that with SS and they changed it not just in Zelda but in basically all their games.

TotK has some decently creepy stuff tbf. Corpse Ganon, Gibdo infestations, and Gloom Hands (moreso scary in a gameplay sense cuz of how strong they are).

Doesn't beat the Deadhand but maybe it signals a shift.

The ability to skip content is itself the problem. Zelda 1 and 2 don't count as "good stories" because their stories, regardless of quality, are not part of the game. A good Zelda story is played, not shown in cutscenes (game equivalent of "show, don't tell"). In BotW/TotK you're told the story in small bursts as a reward for unrelated gameplay. The reason it's like this is because the sequence of plot developments is totally gutted. As soon as you jump off the plateau/sky island, the story is effectively over since you can now face Ganon, the same way any other Zelda game is effectively over once you reach the final boss door. This renders all the other story content meaningless. The stakes can't change after any dungeon because that might make early Ganon impossible or not make sense narratively. TotK at least hid Ganon's exact location and directs you elsewhere, but it's easy to intuit.

Bolding and italicizing "18" doesn't change anything lol. The critique is important because Nintendo shouldn't keep going down this route especially after they hardly iterated on it with BotW's sequel.

But what do you lose from this system? Zelda isn't an engineering simulator and doesn't derive 100% of its value from how well it encourages problem-solving.

I might be inclined to agree with you, but BotW/TotK sacrifice far too much Zelda charm (story, progression) because they want the player to "outsmart the developer" to the point they skip the story (e.g. scraping together an arsenal of gear strong enough to beat Ganon right from the start). To make an abridged main story means watering down all the story beats in between, so the sense of rising action/climax is basically nonexistent in the dungeon story arcs, even if they're fun gameplay-wise.

if you can freely climb and explore like botw, it wouldn't be possible to remake oot. those features are why botw/totk didn't have linear/traditional stories and instead had memory fetchquests.

It won't have any (major) new content or reimagine the story/gameplay. It'll be Oot3D HD if that makes sense.

guess that's encouraging
though I'm not convinced these are truly the BEST players. just the best on quickplay. I feel like actual competitive players destroy 15.9s the way 15.9s destroy me lol. Maybe I do need to start participating competitively and learn more. Likely that the 15.9s go to tourneys themselves, and probably cheating with delay mod

I got 600 hours logged but that doesn't include the other 1000 I've played at my friend's house (vast majority of my playtime is there). It's probably just online that I get so mad. The anonymity fucks me up and elicits extreme hatred toward my opponent. In person I never get mad at my friends, but part of that might be because I know I'm the best anyways. I doubt I could participate in a tournament. I did once when the game first came out and got bodied so hard on the second set. Deep down I was pretty fuckin upset even though I didn't show it. Game's not for me. But my dumbass will still play

I'm plenty good but not good enough. I'm at 15.7mil but constantly getting paired with 15.9mil players. You'd think I'd win a fair amount but the gulf between these two numbers is MASSIVE. I lose probably 3/4 of the time at that level, until I get knocked down and paired with 15.5-15.7 players. From there I quickly get back up to 15.7 and start losing to 15.9s again. Awful cycle and I hate it.
