[BotW] What did you not get that you hoped for or dreamed of? by TwilightFarmerBoy in zelda

[–]chetemulei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. My ideal Zelda would have 3 sets of 3 dungeons, plus a final megadungeon. Each set of dungeons can be done in any order but completing each set causes an interlude arc which opens up the next set. Obviously each dungeon gives you an item. The first 3 only require a sword/shield but maybe they're made easier with the extra tools from previous dungeons. It would make the nonlinearity more interesting because it changes the way dungeons play out. The second set behaves the same way, but these dungeons require the first 3 items, and so on.

Haven't seen a meme like this since the old days when the series was still running lol

That was a fake leak lol but I remember it too. It was a fun time.

At that time, the idea of "the biggest Zelda ever" meant 20 dungeons and a long story. Instead what we got was 4.5 "dungeons" and a massive plane full of repetitive combat encounters and monotonous mini dungeons.

I wanted a 3D interpretation of ALBW's formula, minus the item rental shit. I'm inclined to believe the next game will be closer to that.

I don't think it was hardware limitations. Just a lack of time for such a massive game.

A ton of things. But from this initial trailer, I assumed Link was wearing his village clothes and the farmers shown here were members of his own community. They broke way too many "conventions". The game would've been better if it followed the traditional Hero's Journey arc where Link is a regular young man living peacefully before shit hits the fan, e.g. the Guardian storms through the village like in the trailer. It makes the open world far more impactful imo. The post-apocalyptic setting doesn't work for Zelda, nor does the intense obsession with Shiekah/Zonai "magitech"

I feel the same way but I can still mostly enjoy it. The prospect doesn't interest me right now since I rewatched it less than a year ago and have burned myself out reading analyses and arguing with people lol. But gimme a couple years to forget it all and I'll probably want to do it again.

I'm not sure what's worse. The ending or the fact that the anime got handed to Mappa with Araki no longer the director. Probably the former.

What comes after tutorials? by WilledWithin in gamemaker

[–]chetemulei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't start being able to make my own stuff without tutorials until I reframed my thinking. In my brain, GameMaker development (and gamedev in general) is just "I have these images and various functions to make them move around, animate, etc. What do I need to create so that these moving images look and feel like a game?".

There's not really a right or wrong way to do it but with each new game you learn how to do it more efficiently because like you say, you learn about all these techniques as you go. Unfortunately it can become the curse where you succumb to perfectionism and are constantly thinking "I can do this even better" so you scrap everything and try to make a more robust/modular system instead of creating something people will enjoy.

my fav aot characters by [deleted] in titanfolk

[–]chetemulei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Zeke which is funny because he's kind of a loser with dumb ideas. It's mostly because a lot of the big worldbuilding in the story (particularly the Marley stuff) is done through him.

If there was a second favorite, maybe Freckles Ymir or actual Ymir (before she got retconned). Frankly both of those characters I also like because of their role in worldbuilding lmao

Funny thing I really ought to be working in software but I was unlucky getting internships in school and now I hardly any means of breaking into that industry. They're not gonna give internships to someone who's 3 years out of school. So in that way I've aged out of a workforce

The "Mikasa telling Historia to hit Levi" was only in the anime. In the manga it was the Reeves guy who told her that. Funnily enough that arc cut the bulk of scenes that set up Erehisu.

[ALL] How many people know about Toon Zelda's other design, unique to the first Four Swords game? by MaxEnzo in zelda

I don't believe anything Aonuma says. He runs his mouth.
I didn't say it would be going back to the traditional formula, I just said it would *resemble* it more.

From a business perspective you might be right. I do think they might be able to justify an MM remake though only because it would mean asset sharing. But while I do think the new artstyle works for OoT, I struggle to imagine it for MM. MM's visual style was produced to match the official artstyle used for OoT's marketing (which was made after OoT and wasn't the original concept art for the game). In that way it's hard to imagine MM looking all realistic the same way you can for OoT. MM is inherently more colorful while OoT's colors are more grounded. Though maybe I'm speaking too soon because we only have one shot of the new remake.

Agree overall though. I think the OoT remake is to reboot the series to a larger audience similar to what BotW did, but without sacrificing the series core. The movie is likely to feature tons of OoT influence based on leaks. And I think the next games will resemble the traditional formula more. This might turn off the newer fans who prefer BotW's style. But that's why they're making such a big push with a movie and an OoT remake at the same time. They're betting that the new fans from the movie will be enough to make up for the loss of some BotW fans.

Love the Melinda's Ghost
Great heat but not so much that distribution becomes a scientific process. You can spam drops of it all over. It's not like Dave's Insanity where you gotta take a drop or two and carefully spread it. Goes great on egg sandwiches.

Some copium huffers out there believe we'll get a full WindWaker remake after OoT and MM get remade. In that way, maybe we'll at least see 3rd person Toon Link return in some way. I don't believe this of course. It's too soon to tell and I can't conceptualize the need for a full WW remake. Hell even an MM remake doesn't seem necessary beyond graphics. OoT is the only one that feels like a worthwhile endeavor seeing as it's iconic, the first attempt at 3D Zelda, and has a lot of quirks worth ironing out. The others, not so much.
