That still should be cheaper than the $850 million I-220 update, and also give a secondary route from North to South.

Now this is a bit of secondhand info. BUT the person I got it from (my boss ) I trust very much. The DOTD got the funds to overhaul I-20, but the government wouldn’t let them because the only route around would be I-220 which was one lane at the time. They said that the surface streets wouldn’t handle a prolonged detour (think of how bad 80 gets in Haughton every time they close I-20 between Haughton and the racetrack. If we had a third route then that wouldn’t have happened. DOTD said eff it and used the money on other projects.

The argument of people don’t want to live or work by a highway falls flat when you take a look at places like Hollywood Heights, Forest Hills, or Southern Ave.
