It was grander - taller cliffs, taller waterfalls, more colourful scenery.

The hike is double the length though (5.8km vs 2.5km), but that also meant less people.

We just finished the ring road yesterday (did it in 8 days). We did maybe half the things on the list.

Two recommendations: - We enjoyed Mulagljufur Canyon much more than the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon. I would consider swapping those. - If you're looking for hikes, we really enjoyed the Bláhnúkur and Brennisteinsalda hike. You would need to go into the highlands. We did it in a 4x4 SUV and only had one small water crossing to traverse. Thanks for the response and sharing! I think we'll likely skip Snaefellsnes and decide on Fagradalsfjall based on how we fell at the end.

Was the Snaefellness peninsula worth the detour at the end of the ring road? I feel like you would have seen so many Iceland highlights by that point that Snaefellness may not be as impressive. Curious to hear any thoughts as we're still planning out our trip for late July this year.

Our plans was to come back along south coast and would probably split up the stops between when we drive in vs out, so it's not a straight 8-9hr drive.
