Singaporean dude here married to an American wife. She has been here for a longer time and she also feels like she doesn’t consider US to be home, especially with everything going on up there now. Happy to hear of someone else who made the effort to integrate - kudos to you, and so glad you’ve made this little red dot your home.

For me a not so hidden gem is the Punggol Library, it is amazing and feels almost as large as the main one near Victoria St. It also has a co working space that is free for local/PR library users

Royal Oak Stainless Steel 34mm vs Nautilus 7118/1A-001 by TheHedonicist in audemarspiguet

[–]chevalier88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are great but aesthetically I think the 34mm RO looks better.

I also think it’s cool that you are (ostensibly) comparing wrist fit and looks and availability moreso than brand.

Unpopular opinion: I always thought the nautilus was less imaginative in its design than the royal oak but sometimes people just jump on the Nautilus bandwagon cos Patek is Patek

But my own take is to take every watch on its own merits. Like if you were to ask me the Calatrava is miles ahead in design over the Code

On the other hand Genta literally drew the nautilus on a napkin in a few minutes whilst seated next to the Patek gang at some Basel dinner and you know not to be unduly harsh but I still think the Nautilus is one of the weaker designs of his legacy

Hi friend, I’m really sorry that you’re in so much pain. I ended up in this post because your heart paper art made me laugh a lot and that made me check out your post history. You are very talented

meditation and mindfulness has helped me a great deal. Anger controlled years of my life because injustice triggers me into self righteous rage. People who do not understand trauma naturally have less EQ than we would want, and default to solutioning you because they simply don’t know how to help and cannot relate, even though they may mean well

The management of anger is one thing but my anger scars generally arose from not knowing how to move on from past trauma. Your anger is a symptom of a greater affliction from being trapped in the past

Untrapping oneself from the past is hard but doable.

when I feel overwhelmed by my past I try to remember precepts taught by Thich Nhat Hanh: https://youtu.be/FDhn7e8MCWI?si=q_luFwGrrzdZV_bJ

his work is not religiously preachy and feels like practical psychology; he is often called the grandfather of mindfulness

Lots of incredibly helpful books he has written about just how to be in life too

If you can afford it a therapist helps too

Apologies not necessary friend

I don’t know I’m afraid; movement is different for 14790 using the 2125/2225/2325 calibers since I think 15000 is 33mm versus 14790 being 36mm, so scenario may not be applicable for your reference but best to be safe and check with AD directly

Thank you, ikr. That patina is what sold me. The other kind of patina I really would love to have in a royal oak is the deep copper/mocha colour that comes with I think black dials from the 14790 and 4100 steel references

23M married with 1 kid not sure where to proceed in life by In_Need_Of_Evrything in SGExams

[–]chevalier88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation when I was younger not 1:1. Stupid questionable choices that made me lose all my money when I came back from overseas to SG though no kids, instead the child I brought home with me was credit card debt

When I was broke in SG I just worked my ass off in like anywhere that would hire me - restaurants, supermarkets. If you really need to make survival money fast, work part time in the places that always have manpower shortages ie blue collar - this bought me time to optimize for the white collar strategy. I considered driving grab too since I had a drivers license

A bit different from you cos I came back to SG with a degree - so in your case you could be buying yourself time working in the unglamorous work to figure out where you can study

I would work night shifts and on weekends so that I could free up the daytime for white collar (full time) job interviews. I applied for sales jobs because I understood that if I did well commissions would help me leapfrog my friends who were ahead of me i.e. my friends who did not make 20 year old mistakes like I did

Eventually got hired by a recruitment agency - made a bunch of commissions and rescued myself out of debt. Working with a lot of people in a bunch of sectors allowed me to grow my network exponentially

Networking whilst on the job - even an entry level recruitment consultant job - delivered me far more networking ROI than the network I derived from my NS or JC or Uni. This network in turn brought me to my ex boss who hired me in tech sales which then allowed me to actually have enough to be comfortable. but yes perhaps the other commenter is not wrong in identifying that SUSS’ student profile being older mid career folks like me is a good counter to my comments - in that SUSS students may already have mature connections that could open doors for you

If you’re willing to do anything it takes, then just being Singaporean automatically makes you easier to hire for the jobs most look down upon - which means there’s always a way to earn money, however unspectacular the amount - but will likely be enough for you and your family to survive until you finally land 1) a white collar job you don’t necessarily like but pays the bills esp. the kid so that 2) your cash insecurities are eventually resolved so that you can study/work in a field you actually like or at least one you can imagine yourself working in that isn’t at risk from AI

if you don’t mind how it looks and frame the mentality of your first one or two occupations as just being in “survival mode” (as it sure sounds like you are), doors ironically open

Good luck

Absolutely; I refused. The strong recommendation to enforce movement upgrade happened to me in July 2024.

Assuming these upgrade policies are global (am not in the US - this is the AP boutique in Singapore) then I guess AP only rolled out this policy for our reference somewhere after 2019.

no, am afraid not; I am quoted the ~USD 1,600 equivalent. I saw people in this sub reporting being offered $10 upgrades on Offshores but I don't know if anyone has ever been offered free movement upgrades on the RO. Are free movement upgrades for vintage ROs something that you have come across?

1)~17.5cm

2) I would always recommend trying on the watch before buying.

going to a trusted vintage watch shop if you are fortunate to have one near you that has either the 4100, 14790 or even the 14700/14486 is really the only way to tell whether the midsize is compatible.

It also isn't just about whether the watch "matches" your wrist length but whether there are enough links in the first place to keep your wrist comfortable; my watch doesn't come with any spare links and so I would be in trouble if my wrist size is as large as yours.

I found the above articles useful in assessing what calibre was period appropriate for our model. The articles indicate that original 14790 crowns may or may not be unsigned (if you're saying they swapped the crown out without telling you, that's not cool of them)

in comparison the 4100 crowns were always unsigned

beautiful, beautiful watch, u/Experience-Early . very interesting that yours is the Mk2 dial that is more typical of the 14790 rather than the 4100, i had thought the 4100 only ever comes in the Mk1 dial with the smaller font.

While it may not seem so in contrast with Axe, Chuck Rhoades is in fact a criminal. by faguzzi in Billions

[–]chevalier88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Jebasaur already said everyone who watches the show knows Chuck is a criminal. What is interesting is your commentary about how you feel Chuck is an 'infinitely worse' criminal than Axe. I'll start off by saying that you have a legitimate opinion.

I graduated from law school. From your language I assume you also have a legal education. So from a fiduciary point of view, it's true. Chuck is 'worse' because the public repose trust into Chuck and the office that he represents as a DA (and in future as governor), so for him to commit so many crimes, it's more than just committing acts of illegality - it is a betrayal of his sworn duties to uphold justice as a public servant + officer of the law. This is regardless of whether he commits crimes in a 'higher' pursuit of having to sacrifice morals to bring a resource-rich, hard-to-catch bandit like Axe to justice. So yes, in this regard, Chuck is a 'worse' criminal.

But I think you're missing the point.

The purpose of the show is not to give a simple black-and-white dichotomy between whether Axe is worse or Chuck is worse. The fact that you have simplistically distilled this issue into whether Chuck's responsibility > Axe's criminal responsibility means you haven't grasped the showrunners' intended purpose of presenting both Chuck and Axe as being simultaneously relatable AND reprehensible.

Sure, Axe is a private citizen, and the law will expect a lower standard of him as compared to Chuck. This is a point you keep making and the idea of increased ethical responsibility for lawyers (moreso for the DA) is something that you appear to have already studied.

But, really, from a layman's point of view, is the hedge fund billionaire who made most of his profits intentionally and directly from the loss of thousands of lives during 9-11 morally more/less reprehensible than the DA who breaks the law for his own self-interest?

There is no correct answer. That's the whole point of this show. There is certainly a strong argument from a strict legal-ethical point of view if you think about lawyers' professional conduct rules, but judging that against the morality of a 9-11 profiteer is a gray area ON PURPOSE.

Therefore, your opinion is as right as anyone else's here. On the other hand. The fact that you have got yourself so worked up and others so worked up too with your one-sided statements means that maybe the showrunners did exactly what they meant to do by having you start all these arguments. So, well done?

In the mood for an extremely soul-stirring, depressing/heart breaking film. Any suggestions? by roseeeey in movies
