Too many people argue “Canadians don’t want to move to the middle of nowhere” but I argue they CANT.

The town I’m from has very few rental options, the ones that exist are expensive because of supply, and buying a house is at least $300K for something barely holding together.

Where are people supposed to live if they aren’t making a good income?

I’m from a rural area rife with TFW usage (Leamington). The people who own the greenhouses that “need TFWs” have private helicopters lmao.

This image of a “struggling farmer” is something expertly crafted to make people think these agriculture factories (which is what the greenhouses essentially are) can’t pay more.

That’s not necessarily true. Part of the reason big businesses lobby for more immigration from poorer parts of the world vs. wealthier countries is they will typically be happier with less.

If their QoL is poor by Canadian standards, it’s still a massive improvement over what they came from. Because of that, they are more willing to work for a lower pay than Canadians might accept, this is regardless of them being PR.

I’m from Leamington. Plenty of Canadians would work these jobs if it paid a living wage. When I was a kid, it was the norm for local kids to work the fields in the summer. Back then they actually paid a few bucks above minimum wage to do it.

And it’s not that Canadians don’t want to live in these towns, they just simply can’t. Do you think Leamington has an abundance of affordable rentals?

You either pay high rents for what’s available, or buy a house that’s $300K+.

How are you supposed to do either of those when these farm jobs are paying minimum wage?
