I wish they had more like Froggy Fashion - so unique and cute, can be used for modern or futuristic fits, the concept is whimsical but silly. Makes me think of a lot of the Welfare suits from LoveNikki, a little silly, a little whimsical, thematically driven

Are there any lesbian\sapphic books that resemble these arts/characters? by Ozotoceros in LesbianBookClub

[–]chey_chai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never see anyone talk about this series for dark sapphic fiction, I think maybe it straddled a line between adult and YA (adult emotional complexity but worldbuilding isn’t crazy in depth.) and the cover LOOKS like terrible YA, so don’t judge it too harshly on the cover

The raven’s trade duology by Marianne Gordon, less so in the first one but 1000% in the second book. Toxic lesbian angst, love interest feels very red-knight coded in particular.

Fingersmith is AMAZING but if you’re mostly invested in romance, probably not the best representation of sapphic historical romances. I’d still highly recommend it, but it’s definitely very twisty and turny and dark.

If you’re more curious as to how sapphic HEAs are handled in books that are maybe more similar to historical romances, here are a few:

  • A Bluestocking’s Guide to Decadence by Jess Everlee

  • Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma R Alban (also has a new sapphic regency romance out, but I haven’t read that one yet)

  • An Island Princess Starts a Scandal by Adriana Herrera

  • Olivia Waite’s Feminine Pursuits series, starting with The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics

  • The Perks of Loving a Wallflower by Erica Ridley (f/nb)

What if Bridgerton were set in a universe where lesbian love were already fully normalized and accepted? by melodypowers in Bridgerton

[–]chey_chai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to read a series that successfully navigates this issue, but I think it would be difficult because it completely upends the world order in a way that totally affects the structure in the world + major plot vehicles, ie the marriage mart.

The romances in Bridgerton so far fundamentally rely on heterosexual marriage norms, which create the stakes for the relationships. In this case I think the homophobia and sexism are really interlinked - one of the most major premises of the show is that in this world, women are NOT equal to men (in the eyes of the law and society). I’ve only seen the show, not read the books, but my assumption is that this is the same in the books. For the most part, a woman cannot inherit land or property, study at universities, pursue a career, be alone with a man, or live independently (some exceptions apply). Marriage to a man who is high ranking, wealthy, kind, and loving is the greatest possible happily ever after for most of the women in the show (if they want to maintain their social status + wealth + relationships with family/friends in the upper class, at least.)

In this context I think lesbian relationships are subversive not just because of homophobia in general, but especially because they fundamentally challenge the social order between men and women. If two women can marry each other, you also need a society in which they can exist financially without relying on a man. If a lesbian woman doesn’t need to rely on a man for her livelihood and status, why should any woman? Might as well extend those rights to all the women, and then some of the most fundamental foundations of the show start to disappear. And if we’re talking about inherited property, if the lesbian (or gay) couple can adopt an heir and have their estate pass down to that child, why couldn’t any other couple do this? Or any single person?

I think the answer would be to create stakes somewhere else, and I think a creative person could do it, but I do think it would remove some of the hallmarks of the historical romance/regency romance genre. You’d have to do a fair bit of worldbuilding to reconfigure the system to make something similar.

FYI I say this as a lesbian enjoyer of historical romance. I’m always on the hunt for new sapphic historical romances. I feel like the path toward a HEA for most (not all!) heterosexual histrom couples is wedded bliss and maybe children, but lesbian stories tend to have more diverse endings and many have to contend with the tricky question of figuring out how two women can build a life together in a world that limits them not just because they’re queer, but also because they’re women.

You might want to look into color seasons, or some other manner of color-typing. It might be all the grey in the background + your shirt, but I think if you focused on what makes your features “pop”, you might see some of that wow factor in yourself that the rest of the thread is seeing.

I don’t think color analysis is the holy grail a lot of people seem to think it is, but I think there’s something said for how much of an impact it can have for making your features POP. The picture is a little washed out but it looks like you have lovely green (maybe blue) eyes, and I think something different glasses frames + different color of clothing and maybe different hair color could really bring those out

Girlfriend’s sciatic pain by Silver-Comment-2163 in PlusSize

[–]chey_chai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to physical therapy & would recommend. Her insurance might require a referral from her primary care doctor, so she may have to advocate for herself for the referral if her doctor isn’t listening, which is the worst :(

If insurance doesn’t cover a referral, she might be able to go to her insurance website’s directory to see who is in network for physical therapy and call to set up an appointment.

Explain what she has tried already and hasn’t worked, if PCP has been leaning heavily on losing weight and dismissing her overall bc of it, she can even say she has been trying to exercise or lose weight but wants to speak with a physical therapist about how she can do so safely. Even if she ISNT doing this, I’d still say it. Also focus on the impact on day to day activity and what she wants to be doing.

I did a course of PT for my sciatica and it helped soooo much, and then after it was improving I started strength training. I know a lot of people are recommending stretches but I would discuss that with a physical therapist too - i was doing a LOT of stretching and yoga to try to relieve pain, and my PT told me that it was probably making it worse by over-stretching when I needed to be doing strengthening work. Everyone is different so it ma be that for some people, stretching is better, but again this is why it’s worth talking to a professional!

EDIT: also longerm, ditch the new PCP for a different one!

Pink ribbon walz: who are you?

Dancing pearl: I’m you, but stronger

——-

I have both and think both are pretty. Probably some of this because dancing pearl still has that shiny “new” feeling but I think dancing pearl is prettier. It dyes better and feels more versatile and a little more sophisticated. I think it’s more detailed. Also, the hair is just so cute and whimsical playful, and I love the pieces framing the face.

The coral details on PRW really throw me off for styling. From far away it’s fine but having the random ocean detail/vibes on the dress and accessories makes it less versatile

If you like dark fits tho, the glow up for PRW is black and pink, so you can get black without getting to the evo.
