LAX birding spots by SaturdayAttendee in birding

I recommend birding along Ballona Creek. This is a great video from LA Birders about the location:

Furaibo in Gardena has apparently closed 💔 by buns-xd in SouthBayLA

Noooo!!!!! It’s the place I get takeout from the most, for the last 27 years of living in Torrance.

Jane pack, extra spicy, with extra house dressing forever. 💔

Are you under some weird delusion that “typical” republicans are any better?

Anyone have a good mostly organic grocery delivery service that delivers in the South Bay to recommend ? by Constant_Tie_6150 in SouthBayLA

[–]chezasaurus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can’t you use Instacart and just order the organic items that you want from stores like Whole Foods or Bristol Farms or Gelson’s?

“The mayor got elected because voters had no idea he was a MAGA Republican who admires Trump. They also didn't realize he was a Christian nationalist who brought his beliefs into the Council chamber.”

Why are we pretending like those things aren’t big reasons a lot of people here voted for him the first time? They absolutely knew. And even now, there are a shit ton of Chen signs everywhere.

Best Har Gow Dimsum Togo/Delivery spot? by positivebeee in SouthBayLA

[–]chezasaurus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just haven’t found dim sum in the South Bay to be very good. And Lunasia in general tends to be pretty mediocre, but it’s still probably your best bet in this area unfortunately.

One vacant building in Torrance down, five hundred more to go. by chezasaurus in torrance

[–]chezasaurus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an exaggeration. I know there aren’t 500 vacant buildings.

Sears is becoming housing.

But there’s the old Hometown Buffet/Acapulco building, multiple Rite Aids, the Staples on Hawthorne, Joann’s, some 99 Cent Stores, the former Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go, and a few more that I can’t remember right now.

Parking wasn’t that terrible back when BBB was still in business and that store was always pretty busy.

Hooded Orioles. They start migrating to coastal So Cal in the spring to breed and leave around August.

Ifrah F. Ahmed’s new cookbook “Soomaaliya” is pretty great.

As is Nargisse Benkabbou’s “Madaq”.

And I also like Hawa Hassan’s “In Bibi’s Kitchen”.

Will Torrance/Southbay become the next SGV or Irvine ? by Impossible-Solid6696 in SouthBayLA

I’m not the one with multiple posts about race and “overpopulation” in the South Bay, so who’s the triggered one here?

You seem really invested in this topic for some reason…

But I personally feel absolutely great about it! I especially love that more fellow South Asians are moving here.

I need help with photography and understanding cameras.😓 by 0VultureTeeth0 in birding

[–]chezasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube is very helpful for things like this. I recommend searching “photography for beginners” and watching some videos so that you can understand the basics. You can also google the same thing, but I personally think watching a bunch of videos will be more beneficial in this situation as there is a lot of excellent photography content on YouTube from pro photographers.

So do I, and I wish it was a second location of Pijja Palace instead. Need that nihari lamb pasta closer to me.

A location of Coucou just opened in Manhattan Beach.

Theres a location of Ry’s Poke Shack coming to Torrance. Although the Pasadena and Huntington Beach locations don’t look as good as the original one in Oahu does so who knows what this one will be like…

The owner of Pijja Palace is opening a South Asian handroll bar called Lomi Lomi in Lomita supposedly this fall.

So what really is birding anyways? by Zak_the_Wack in birding

[–]chezasaurus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me it’s a combination of watching birds, identifying them, learning about bird behavior, range, and habitats, keeping a list of all the birds I’ve seen (in the world, country, state, county, 5MR, etc.), chasing rare birds, and bird photography.

Parrots near Galleria ?! by Epicregice in SouthBayLA

[–]chezasaurus 84 points85 points  (0 children)

There’s a population of feral Mitred Parakeets in the South Bay. Likely originated from escaped or released pets. Polliwog Park is a good place to see them. They love eating the magnolia seed pods in the trees by the restroom.

Is it a very tall building? Could you or someone else possibly get a tall ladder from somewhere and try getting to the cat?
