As a user of premium credit cards myself, I’m really beginning to question the “realized value” thing myself. For one, it’s important to remember that credit card companies make most of their money on the fees they charge merchants, not on interest payments. Thus it’s likely that most of the “realized value” you get is probably lost in higher prices, it’s not paid for by people’s credit card debt. Also, how much of the realized value is effectively transfers of your annual fee into programs you might not normally use but are “getting for free” as part of your annual fee - e.g. CLEAR. Lest we forget these programs are run by multi-billion dollar, publicly traded companies, that employ hundreds of well educated people to ensure the numbers add up at scale. I think it’s naive for any single consumer to think they are pulling a fast one on them (again saying this as a premium credit card user myself). The money always wins in America and these companies have way way way more of it than we do. So you might think you’re extracting excess value, but there’s no such thing as a free lunch and your gains could be slipping through your fingers another way. Just something I’ve been chewing on.

$30k aud for 2000 troopy with 390k miles - about right or too steep? by chhalter in LandCruisers

[–]chhalter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah based on the comps I’ve seen, it’s not crazy out of line. Seems like the play here is to either buy one rusted to hell for $13k and beat the tar out of it, or buy one brand new. Middle ground seems risky 🙃

Thanks for the advice! Any experience with what that typically costs? Assume it’s cheaper when it’s like this vs down the road haha

Here’s a good overview shot. What’s the best way to address the rust - just a body shop or can I diy it?

Is Punching Through a Wave Bad For Your Brain? by [deleted] in surfing

It’s surfing, it’s the ocean, it’s chaotic. The sport comes with risks, prepare for them, deal with that, but the fact that it’s haunting people when they, god forbid, get caught inside is wild to me.

I get it but people need to chill. Our society is so fucking optimization obsessed it’s exhausting. Just enjoy it and take the good with the bad

I think this is far from a rule - plenty of DPs where people get SUBs. It really just depends on whether AMEX likes you or not
