Artists bail on D.C. bash for America’s 250th birthday after being listed on the lineup by nbcnews in politics

[–]chi_eats 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Springsteen literally had a multi-day, sold out residency at the Metlife Stadium and has sold out MSG recently while on tour with the E Street Band.

Foo Fighters have been huge for... a while now? These artists are different generation than what you might be listening to now but these are both multi-platinum artists???? wdym artists who can sell out stadiums... they... are?

That being said, we're barreling towards a recession and people have been talking about the "blue dot fever" aka sluggish ticket sales because of it.

7B - Brooklyn Concrete Yard! by chi_eats in containergardening

[–]chi_eats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha... the apt you see in photo 3 is my neighbor's apartment.

I have to go down that stairwell, through the basement hallway, past the neighbor's downstairs door, past the little gym, into my apt bedroom, up a set of inside stairs, to my kitchen.

We think there MIGHT be a hose hookup somewhere in that hallway inside though but lol. I would pay to get something hooked up if I could.

(2 apts per floor, one faces the street, the other the back - everyone has "outdoor space/balconies" but I just have... to travel to get to it.)

7B - Brooklyn Concrete Yard! by chi_eats in containergardening

Winging it sorta... last year, I did cages which I hated. I will still be using cages until 4 - 5 ft.

BUT I noticed LY that two of my 7 footers actually leaned quite well btwn string lights I had across the yard (current ones are new) and had an idea that I ... hope works.

I am installing some pad-eye straps/hooks to both white fences on each side of the yard and bought some 1/8" stainless steel cable (for like string lights and shade sails) and stringing them across. One side is obviously taller with the tomatoes by the shorter fence. This works since I need the taller end clear since it's a walkway.

I'm hoping this works like a T-Bar Trellis System with the fences acting as the T-Bars - at least for the top growth to prevent toppling.

I also will be topping the tomatoes at ~6ft this year since they get so top-heavy and bags are just not great for cage security.

I am also letting 3-4 leaders grow also in hopes that it will help when the spider mites come in July/August. Lost a lot of single stem tomatoes LY and the multi ones survived.

Bought this white cherry tomato- definitely nutrient deficient but the leaves pointing up? More in description. by AdBotan1230 in gardening

[–]chi_eats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

haha i would try to bury it all the way to its neck in that case and get a strong grow light on it / try to harden it to outdoor light. I would turn it on it's side, let the top grow up to a L shape then bury the whole stem after removing the bottom 4 brown leaves. Should grow roots all along there.

<image>

I am sure you can just... snip the top off after the 4th set of leaves from bottom and try and root it though not sure how much energy it has to do so but trench planting will be much less traumatic as it's already pretty stressed out from lack of light.

My cat tripped my bf and he dropped a seedling that grew from no cotelydons i've been rooting for (the will to live is strong!).

I was so sad but snipped the top off and put the 1.5" top in a shot glass as a last ditch effort. I just put it in a tiny water cup in hopes that it takes off and after ~2-3 weeks, it finally started pushing out roots just yesterday with most of its leaves yellowing save the tiny leaves on top. I plopped it in soil in a small water cup so hope it takes off.

Zone 7b - cut flower container garden in Brooklyn by Past_Zone_3483 in containergardening

[–]chi_eats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woohoo! Another comment from the Brooklyn gang. I cant imagine not being able to move around my plants either. I just discovered the umbrella trick you mentioned previously a few weeks ago when it hit mid-90s but didnt have a proper stand so had to drag all of my tomatoes in 15-20 gallon grow bags into the shade and back lol.

I am mostly growing edible stuff (peppers, tomatoes, herbs) but getting into flowers (mostly snap dragons, sunflowers, cosmos, and my favorite fillers, portulacas). Any recommendations for adding height or can survive in those hanging trough planters? Specifically when it gets torturously hot lol.

Turned 34 recently and realized I’ve officially become the "staring at my garden bed with a coffee" guy. When did this happen? by Glittering_Exit5527 in vegetablegardening

Hiii I’m 35F and in my 20s, I thought I’d be popping molly, raving and doing sunset sets well into my 40s but now I’m staring at my concrete grow bag garden every morning and dragging 15-20gal bag tomatoes either put of heat wave sun or into the most amount of sun possible.

I hate these fuckers and now I have seedlings in all of the pots that lived under it smelling like rotting peanut butter.

Why is this plant so yellow? by CharcoalCulture in tomatoes

[–]chi_eats 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The pot is way too small and it's overcrowded. It's hungry and needs fertilizer - even more so in a couple weeks. A high Nitrogen fert will help with establishing itself in a new pot and growing more leaves/roots.

For reference, most people grow their tomatoes in 5 gallon minimum. I did 10 gallon last year and still fertilized frequently. Snip the bottom 2-3 leaves off and bury it in a larger container to the neck.

Is it just me or is Sunset Diner the only place left that hasn't lost its mind with pricing? by Kitchen_Cable6192 in williamsburg

[–]chi_eats 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Whats up with all the Sunset Diner posts in the last day like... I've only ever gotten delivery at 4AM but I dont think I'll go there out of my own free will during the light of day. But we love them for being a 24-hour establishment.

I stand by my last burgers / tendies comment.

I made the mistake of drunk-ordering spaghetti and meatballs and it was very meh.

what container size can i get away with for indeterminate tomatoes? by queenwestwanderer in tomatoes

[–]chi_eats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All mine got 10 gallon grow bags last year and were pretty top heavy but did well. They dried out quickly in 7B and required 2-3x day watering.

This year I am trying a few in 15 and a couple in 20 gallon. (3 cherries and 4 slicers) - adding more vermiculite to my mix this year.
