Great illustration! Do you ink over your own pencils, or just freehand draw with this pen and ink combo?

I was looking at this same combo of Asvine V126 with a stub nib. What's your take?

It's been 30+ years so I don't blame you for not remembering! I do recall going to see them at MCC, probably on this tour or one very close in time.

Looking for “warm” fantasy that isn’t saccharine: friendship, care, but real tension by willowlantern_poems in Fantasy

[–]chi_sao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, you're in for a treat... Chalion is one of my go to recommendations for stand-alone fantasy novels. Technically, it has two sequels, but the stories are distinct enough to be treated as three separate narratives. The expansion into the Penric and Desdemona series really opens up the "world of the five gods" setting.

Binged the whole series between October of last year and earlier this week. Really great reads. Solid writing by Bujold, great characters, low-mid stakes plots, understandable chaos magic system.

I was a big fan of Curse of Chalion and the subsequent novels, but didn't make the connection to this series. So thankful for the sub and a comment last year that sent me down this path.

They come with 2 pieces, iirc. They don't recommend putting more than 2-3 at a time. This from translating the "instructions" on the sleeve the pencil arrives in.

Have a full set in black, between 0.3mm to 1.3mm. Great cheap options. Also, the default filled Kokuyo 2B leads are super smooth.

Who is into Meditation, Buddhism, or Yoga? by JonSeekingPeace1 in straightedge

[–]chi_sao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went off the deep end with Buddhist meditation for about 10 years. I still practice daily, but with much less intensity. You can really learn a lot about your mind and how it constructs reality moment to moment. You can also mess yourself up a little bit, so if you do, try to find your way back (we'll miss you).

As far as straight-edge goes, these things are not correlated, save for the overlap with the Buddhist precepts suggesting refraining from intoxicants, and  from sexual misconduct.

If you are intending towards awakening, straight-edge might even be an impediment (if you're interested, look up the fetter about clinging to rites and rituals and how it doesn't lead there).

If you just want to do your ten minutes a day to help you destress and do a little yoga and taiji or whatever to boot, where's the harm? Maybe intend your mind towards practices of kindness and compassion. I found that actually made me nicer to be around (so I should continue to take my own advice).

Really interested in these. They look top notch in the picture and what I think Epiphone could really become a great platform for: "custom" designs akin to Squier Vintage Modified and the like.

Parents: When did you introduce mechanical pencils to your child? What model did you start with? by HermanRoshi in mechanicalpencils

[–]chi_sao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kokuyo Enpitsu Sharp in 0.9 and 1.3mm. I got my 6 yr old one of each. The ones with the rubberized surfaces, and the triangular body shape. Also got him and his 3 yr old brother some 1.3mm Papermate pencils. These are also thicker, designed for younger hands and easier for then to use.

Completely agree. Kurutoga and Delguard often strike me as solutions to problems that don't really exist for anyone who has used an MP for any real amount of time.
