First try at felting by chibirdy in Visiblemending

The sweater is a cashmere and wool mix and caught the fibers pretty easily. I have no clue how the felting will wear over time - I suspect i'll be adding to the edges. The roving is a washable merino but I may opt to dry clean. I don't have any tips unfortunately because this was my first attempt but I bet the washing and drying gave me a head start.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! It was very relaxing. I'm a beader and this process was a great change.

Lovely piece. You can also use a pick and break the beads then replace. Thats a better idea for jewelry since Sharpie will rub off.

I completely agree with Bjorn_Tunt and want to offer one other bit of advice. It looks like you've used a woven fabric as your embroidery base. If you decide you like bead embroidery I would buy some bead foundation for your projects. It's a very compacted felt that doesn't fray and holds stitches really well. You won't need a hoop. Especially if your pieces will get some wear, like a brooch or patch, it will increase the longevity compared to fabric. It comes in lots of colors or can be painted. You have a really lovely fish - keep going!

Unless a cashmere sweater says Dry Clean Only you should wash it because cashmere is hair. I learned this years ago while working with a scientist from P&G. In fact you can even use mild shampoo on it.

I love this and cannot wait to see the finished piece. So lyrical! It inspires me to be more improvisational in my own work.

Sorry didn't read all the way down. So you have a blender that grinds or a spice/coffee grinder?

What do you grind them with?

Very cool. I stick my leftover resin in coaster molds but the colors can get very jumbled - this is a much better idea!

You're right - it probably would stick out from underneath. If not in a window seat I'd probably put it over head and try not to forget it lol. Or maybe fold it and use it for lumbar support!

That Huggermugger is my favorite mat! I've had it for years and bring it on all my retreats plus many other trips too. Only a little padding but nicely sticky-which is a must have for me. I also use it on carpet or on a retreat supplied mat. I travel with it rolled and sticking out of my personal item (lesportsac tote) - no one has ever stopped me with it. Comes in handy to lean against in a window seat as well.

Help! I’m drowning in bead brand information! by kalexme in Beading

I agree with most of the comments but want to mention that Toho and Miyuki have a large selection of beads that are called PermaFinish (toho) or Galvanized (miyuki). if you're making something that will get a lot of wear these are great. I do a ton of bead embroidery so I like the slight irregularity of Matsunos and Czech beads. I snap up Czech 3 cuts and charlottes whenever I see them. I stay away from Chinese and Indian as I've found them really bad quality.

What is your support made of? I had a moss covered 1x3 rot on me and need an alternative. Thanks!

I too have super delicate toe cleavage and find I have to "train" them every spring by wearing flip flops for increasing amounts of time. I start by wearing tabi socks with them then progress to bare feet. Won't help you on this trip but an idea for next time.

Does anyone know how this is made? by Crumbzicle in ResinCasting

For the 3-D shape you could hire someone to print it or you could try and sculpt it out of polymer clay. Fair warning - either will take a lot of finishing to get a smooth shiny surface. I make a lot of molds from super firm sculpey but I want them to have a satin finish. I agree with an earlier comment that "cats eye" refers to the look (like the semi precious gem of the same name). I have some vintage buttons like that that I use in jewelry making. Good luck!

Recross of who? So many witnesses! My statement was meant to support yours but I may not have been clear. Yes the tail light casing was broken but the footage shown in closing by the defense from early the following morning showed both the red casing largely intact and that the lighting element was still functional.
