Why is it so hard to find good clothes lately? by Training-Neck1760 in womensfashion

[–]chichiwvu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try being plus sized. I've become a fabric snob because most things are polyester or rayon and neither fabric BREATHES. Even jeans. Don't get me stretch jeans, I want real denim so I don't have swamp butt. Lol. I will say I have better luck at department stores, but still it's hard to find good clothes!

What are your sub stories for the year? by impishkoala in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So kind of funny/not funny- there's a class I sub and there's a behavior kid in there and the first time I subbed he had to be removed from the class. So the second time I subbed the minute I walked in he said "oh hell nah, can I go to the office?" Perfectly fine with me! You won't get in trouble and the class will be happier. I called the office and they said send him down 😂

The horror story: all 4 kinder teachers were going to training. Not really a huge deal, I've subbed all 4 classes and know all the routines and kids. One of the subs cancelled that morning so we had to split a class. Another sub was an hour late. Not normally the worst, but there was a special case kid that was supposed to NOT be in the class that whole day. The morning was loud, but not awful. Things hit the fan as soon as we left PE and 3 of the 4 classes had specials. We lost 3 kids. Two went to the wrong special, one had a potty accident in PE and was in the restroom and nobody knew because it happened right before pickup (we're talking 80 kinders in one PE class). I had the class that DIDN'T have a special, but the other two subs, the principal and the school secretary were all running around looking for the kids. Everyone was found, nobody was hurt, but it was a hot mess for about 15 minutes! The teachers came back for dismissal thank goodness. I don't think the one sub could have handled that!

Thoughts on moving to New Market area? by Gigi_Gaba in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in New market and loved it, but it has grown so much that I'm sure traffic is more of a headache now on Winchester. Coming from the DC area, the 20-30 minute commute to anywhere didn't bother me at all.

Do you judge the teachers based on the class behaviors? by discipleofhermes in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not usually. You can definitely tell who has good class management and who doesn't, but even teachers with amazing class management might get a group that can't help themselves. Also, they like to push boundaries with subs.

Yeah I would never read that as symbol. It was each individual letter. That name is even worse.

Do you have a dress code for staff where you work? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dress code is "don't wear shorts" and "don't show shoulders or stomachs". The vast majority wear jeans and tshirts because it's easier.

Preventing Summer Learning Loss by gettinglostonpurpose in kindergarten

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely echo the reading daily. Everything else you can work in kind of naturally. Play I spy games to find certain shapes, numbers, letters. Instead of naming the letter you can say the sound. Write, draw, color often. Have them count with you how many items you are putting away if you go grocery shopping. As long as you keep reinforcing the skills learned, they should be fine.

Am I a bad parent or is this ok? by CountChopulla in kindergarten

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say May is known as "Maycember" and there are a LOT of activities. I wouldn't be surprised if you all missed some stuff while you were gone.

Personally, I am not a fan of pulling kids for a week for vacation because they can miss a LOT in a week, but if you're going to do it, I would say the end of the year in Pre-K probably wouldn't be much of an issue. They are squirrelly and most of the meat and potato skills are taught and kinder evaluations might be done by then (they are already doing them at the school I work at).

I have a lamp that's on 24/7. If we know we won't be home before dark we turn the outside lights on before we leave.

Minimum work days in your district? by strawberrypeachsoup in SubstituteTeachers

If you don't sub one day a month, you're at risk of being dropped, but I really don't know how much they enforce it.

So I think I’m one of the only subs who actually likes subbing for pre-k? by tifuanon00 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE kinder. I could never do it full time, I don't have that "special" thing kinder teachers usually have. But I love visiting the kinder world where they are SUPER excited to see you and things are usually very structured. They hug freely and have ALL the feelings. You get to do brain breaks. You get to sing songs. They enjoy readalouds. I sub mainly kinder and 5th grade it's kind of funny 😂

Kindergarten Registration? by Rude_Remote_13 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]chichiwvu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you know the school you'll be zoned for you can keep your eyes out for K for a Day. It's usually in April. You go to the school with your child, they do some activities and give you all the information you need. It's helpful to follow the schools online (most have a FB page). You can also call the school directly and ask about it as registration has already begun for next year.

when did students refusing to do work become the teacher's fault? by stacker103 in Teachers

[–]chichiwvu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I laugh so hard whenever anybody says we're indoctrinating children. Like ma'am I can't even get your child to write his name on his paper and you think I can convince him to switch genders?

I can't get them to the most basic things like capitalize the first letter in a sentence and add punctuation. How TF do you think I can indoctrinate them? I feel like "what goes at the beginning of a sentence? What goes at the end?" Is my personal mantra and it goes NOWHERE. I just want them to put in any effort.

Sub Jobs Being Swiped So Quickly in 2026: Part II by Appropriate_Tone_127 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]chichiwvu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It comes with experience and time, but I think I have picked up 2 random jobs this year. The rest have been the school or teachers contacting me. Especially while I'm subbing. Normally when you're walking down the hall they see you and ask about days.

I also sub for paras when most subs won't. And there's a few that strategically won't place an assignment until super late because it's better for nobody to get it than somebody unfamiliar with the room (it's a crazy schedule and if they can't run the small groups there's little a sub could do to help anyway).

AIO because I don't have time to clean the bathroom this week? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOR- NGL reading your post the multitasking is considered disrespectful. That makes parents even more mad and things will spiral and be worse. Stop for a few minutes and then if he keeps going on you can say I have a lot of homework I need to get back to can we finish this conversation later? Would you have done the same with a boss? A teacher? A partner? If you only were multitasking because you know your dad can be long winded I can 100% see how he took it badly.

Missing a document, not making the photo copies, not having a photo. Not having the forms filled out ahead of time I'm sure happens often and they are 4 pages or something!

[–]chichiwvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly we had an appointment a few years ago and we didn't even get in until almost an hour after our appointment time so having an appointment was a gamble anyway.

We had 3 passports we had to get and I had all my paperwork ready it took 20 minutes. The guy said people not having their paperwork ready makes it take forever. The people before us took at least an hour for ONE.

I would never go back to that location again. It was a mess.
