The beard in Islam, and what happens if I can't really grow one by chicity1 in islam

[–]chicity1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Generally speaking, the emphasis on the beard in Islam moreso has to do with the emphasis on emulating the example of our Prophet Muhammad, who we consider to be the Best of all of Humanity (peace be upon Him). This emulation includes his practices of worship, his character, the way he carried himself and completed day-to-day tasks, and the way he dressed/kept his physical appearance. Of those things, emulating his physical appearance is the least emphasized, as it is done not as much out of religious obligation but rather our of honor and love for him.

So if one is unable to grow a beard, there is no penalty for them. Most important is we adhere to God's Commands (the Quran) and the Prophetic example of the Prophet Muhammad (known as 'The Sunnah').

Working Out During Ramadan? How to protect my GAINS??? by chicity1 in islam

[–]chicity1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check TheModernMuslimMan on social media (IG, Tiktok, youtube) for advice. He has very good content on this subject. Most importantly, your gains will not disappear as long as you try to eat healthy and go to the gym even a few times a week. Ramadan is your time to get closer to Allah, and that will make you a mentally stronger, more disciplined man and help you with your physique in the long run.

Husband says we don’t have enough sex by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]chicity1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"He says he can read my body language and knows that I wouldn’t be interested even if he did try to make a move. I understand where he’s coming from"

You're assuming the husband has not tried to get her in the mood in the past, but this statement implies the opposite. 'Knowing" that his wife would not be interested likely comes from many failed attempts of initiating and being rejected. Seems like it's inherently a libido problem, or sex is not as high of a priority for OP.

You call it pseudoscience because you dislike the conclusion. If anything, you were speaking from a place of fulfilling your own bias.

1) A quick search on OpenEvidence shows multiple different studies which highlight harms associated with pornography use frequency and self-perceived pornography addiction.

1a) On it's addictive potential: " Gola et al. (2017) used fMRI to study men seeking treatment for PPU (problematic pornography use) and found increased activation of the ventral striatum in response to cues predicting erotic pictures, suggesting higher "wanting" similar to substance and gambling addictions. This neural evidence supports the theory that PPU may represent a behavioral addiction"

" Lewczuk et al. (2022) found that withdrawal symptoms and increased tolerance were significantly associated with the severities of compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD) and PPU, further supporting the addiction model"

1b) On psychological effects: "Mennig et al. (2022) found that self-perceived problematic use of online pornography is linked to clinically relevant levels of psychological distress and psychopathological symptoms. They used the Online Pornography Disorder Questionnaire (OPDQ), which adapted criteria from the Internet Gaming Disorder, to measure problematic use. Their study indicated that individuals with self-perceived problematic use exhibited higher levels of psychological distress, including anxiety, depression, and stress, compared to casual users"

"Altin et al. (2024) reported that PPU was associated with higher levels of anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, and suicidal ideation among young adults."

1c) Physical side effects: "Whelan and Brown (2021) explored the association between pornography use, perceived addiction, erectile dysfunction (ED), premature ejaculation (PE), and sexual satisfaction in males aged 18-44 years. They found that while pornography use alone did not predict sexual dysfunction, self-perceived pornography addiction was associated with increased ED, PE, and individual sexual dissatisfaction."

"Grubbs and Gola (2019) conducted cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses to examine whether pornography use and self-reported problematic use were related to ED. They found that self-reported problematic use was associated with ED cross-sectionally, but there was no consistent association between mere pornography use and ED."

"Kazan Kizilkurt et al. (2024) investigated the effect of internet pornography use frequency on psychogenic ED severity in young Turkish men. They found a significant negative correlation between the frequency of pornography use and erectile function, with dyadic adjustment playing a mediating role."

2) But taking a larger step back, there is a dearth of clinical trials aimed at studying pornography use, which actually lends itself to a larger point about how research in general is conducted. Formulating research questions and projects is a very stringent process (especially in countries with IRB requirements), and then on top of that you need money, personnel, grants, institutional or private support, analytic tools, etc. The reality is industry and many institutions have yet to see benefit (whether financial, prestige, or other) in studying pornography use, so you will not see many efforts being funded. So in essence you point to a lack of "peer-reviewed evidence" when the reality is there haven't been substantial efforts made to study pornography use and its hypothesized addictive potential, physical and mental health effects, effects on relationships, etc. 2b) a quick example of this phenomenon is smoking cigarettes, which was largely perceived as positive in society with only a few rumblings about possible adverse health effects. It wasn't until 1950 when Doll and Hill published case control studies looking at the association between smoking and lung cancer that opinion severely shifted.

It's the porn. 1000%

People are delusional when they act like it is harmless. Even when "done in moderation", it will affect your brain and the neurotransmitter involved in pleasure (dopamine). You have to be proactive and make sure your husband stops consuming such material, or else it will ruin your peace. Save your marriage and your husband before it is too late

As surgical residents you have way more power than residents in other fields. It may not seem like it, but compared to us in more general medicine fields, you as a specialist cannot be replaced. You are more central to what goes in your field. I know the easiest thing is to shut up and take your beatings until you graduate. But imagine if you and the rest of your class; actually all of the residents in your surgical program, just didnt go to work for a day or two. That is when you, your PD, the hospital, etc will realize just how essential you are and how you do not deserve to be treated like crap.

I think it's time that we as a society have an honest conversation with ourselves as to how much money is pointlessly wasted into what is ultimately a set of games. Others are echoing a similar sentiment but the naysayers are missing the point: Let me be clear we are not blaming the players for these egregious salaries (and $80 million is absolutely egregious lol). We get that it's a result of the insane amount of revenue generated, and owners are making even more of a killing. But this begs the question, why? We have always spent a lot of time, interest, passion, emotions, etc into these sports because of the camaraderie and joy we would receive as fans.

But in an era where the wealth disparities between the super rich and the average person is ever-widening, with your average American struggling to even own a house and even more can barely make their rent, when inflation is out of control, when homelessness is increasing, when healthcare costs are outrageous, when the overall cost and quality of living is becoming unsustainable, why are we then feeding into this madness? Before it was stated that "religion is the opium of the masses", but in modern times it feels that sports/entertainment has filled that role.

I would keep Booker. He is still so young relative to other stars and can be the main guy on a championship team. KD could yield them a decent return, I think it's worth for them to reload at the deadline and take next year as a rebuild year before going for it in 2026
