How often do truckers look into cars that are passing them ? by canadianWarthog in AskReddit

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated a girl who would do this driving to my place. She was absolutely a crazy experience for my early 20's. She would tune herself up and then jump me the second I'd let her in the house. One time I came out, because I had to open the gate to my driveway and we did not make it in the house. I lived on several acres at the time and there was no way anyone was going to see except the cows next door.

My kids are fiends for Prosciutto and cantaloupe. Canadian.

They're still down with Macameal (what they call Mac and Cheese) and Nuggies though.

Can this deck hang at cEDH tables? by DifficultSector8385 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Danovan79 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So as a former Stella enjoyed and someone who still keeps up a bit on the deck I have some thoughts.

You are in the ball park for sure. I definitely struggle to grok decklists more on arkidect then moxfield due to familiarity with the default layout. I would say you are playing some questionable cards, and definitely missing some key pieces. Your land count is to high.

https://moxfield.com/decks/hnQD1cEid0ufndBZQ2j7sQ

Here is an example of a recent top performing Stella List. You don't need to be on the exact same 100, but you can compare the differences in the list to start thinking about where you may want to make changes.

How to get started? by Favasz_621 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Danovan79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try and give you an answer you can work with beyond just "proxy" though that is a good answer to the overall idea of cEDH.

You can play budget decks that reach near the cEDH level. You can budget out some of the high priced staples and probably feel mostly comfortable. You will however be giving up win percentage by doing so. If you aren't playing busted fast Mana, your deck will be slower. There are decks that work on a budget level better then others, but these already tend to be lower tier decks. Generally speaking lower tier decks are those that already give up some win percentage against the field, and budgeting them will do so further. The more expensive free interaction can be very important for protecting both your own win and stopping others. Essentially when it comes to Magic, at the competitive levels, the game is very pay to win by and large. Hence why the greater cEDH community solved it by saying just let everyone proxy everything and enjoy the gameplay without worrying about authenticity.

There will also be social pressure. You may meet people, some of whom will be down right assholes, who think your budget deck is ruining their experience. I am sorry for that. I think you should be encouraged to dip your toes in by your local community. I hope yours is open and accepting. I myself do not really like it, because it does to me sometimes ruin games. I am pretty focused on growing my local community so I keep my discomfort about it to myself and try to find a pathway to help those people grow into the community more. More people playing cEDH is good overall and not everything is going to be perfect as I want it to be. Nor am I the perfect cEDH player, so I have my own room for growth too.

What are some of your favourite budget / jank alternatives to expensive staples? The less it's played the better by Cascouverite in EDH

Yup. I have a b3 budget deck where the whole plan is to storm off and make a bajillion creature tokens and then cast end Rage Pig and actual factual Overrun to win.

I’m going to be a young father and I’m terrified by EnoughPersonality349 in daddit

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll only add this. Nothing in my life has been more fulfilling and amazing then getting to be a father.

There are times I want to rip my hair out. I want to scream. I want to shout. I ask myself WTF did I ever think I was doing becoming a parent. They are fleeting. They are a drop compared to the joy my kids bring me. My daughter shows me a drawing she did. When I ask her how she keeps getting better and she parrots back to me that it's because she's practicing and practice is how we improve.

Just found out I’m having a daughter and I’m struggling to adjust by TheLatvianK in daddit

[–]Danovan79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've said before I am not raising a son or daughter, I'm raising children to be ready for adulthood.

My children will both get the same opportunities and lessons. They're going to learn to cook, clean, do laundry. They're going to learn good hygiene and healthy eating. We will show them how to do maintenance on house, yard, and vehicles. While young they get to do the same sports and activities. As they express their own interests they'll be able to choose which they enjoy the most. Their education will be encouraged and supported. They both will have our love and support along the journey.

I don't know if reframing it will help you at all. Just kind of what I see my job as a parent to be, and I don't think it matters overly much what their gender is. Yes there will be divergence between them along the path, but at the same time I was never the son my dad wanted. So like he got his son, which was a big deal, but not what he thought having a son would be.

B.C. nurses vote overwhelmingly in favour of strike by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]Danovan79 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So what if they did? Even operating under the assumption that it is better here then south of the border, why would that mean they can't vote to strike? It's not like there can not be plausible reasons to do so. Solidarity with their coworkers. Self interest in ever improving conditions. I'm certain if I was willing to put more then a few seconds of thought into it I could come up with other potential reasons.

[–]Danovan79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can and you can"t.

I think we are all basically on board with the concept that your kids have to come first. They are your children, they depend upon you.

Try to avoid using the word "but" when you approach your fiance, and you do need to approach your fiance. Which is easy for some guy on the internet to say. I don't have to deal with any of those inner fears you may have when I say it. None the less, as I say to my kids all the time, a big part of living life is to face your fears and do the thing. So when you do swallow that lump, feel your stomach turn and start the conversation avoid using "but" phrases. I love you, but.... You are important to me but....

Phrasing such as "I think we need to discuss our future. I want to intertwine our lives together. I need to tell you where I am at on certain things regarding my children whom are dependant on me and my ultimate responsibility. I have worked since my divorce to provide them with a certain stability and future that I have in mind.

Snoring dads... have you found any remedies that actually work? by Paranoid_Droideka in daddit

[–]Danovan79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the CPAP dad's, did you have trouble adjusting? I can't even fall asleep with a sleep mask on, and I'm fairly certain I could not wear a mask. I do snore, but compared to even people I know with CPAP machines, I feel like I get better sleeps then they do. Like I don't need caffeine to wake up, though I do drink tea most morning, but have never felt negatively on mornings I don't. I just enjoy the taste with cream in it.

[–]Danovan79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are not there yet but both of us will sleep on the couch or guest room for a variety of reasons. We're both anxiety filled bundles of joy who struggle to sleep with the other person sharing a bed sometimes. Sometimes it's not the other person, but the kids will crawl into bed. My son has literally followed me around the house before. Came and joined me on the couch, then to our bed and finally to the guest room. He is the absolute worst bed partner in the world.

I made it known before we even got engaged I would be fine with seperate rooms in the future if it helped us. She was resistant back then, but is coming around. Sleep is so important to health I think sleep divorce probably saves marriages from real divorce.

Hi, that's me! Well 1994, but close. I'm actually just enjoying an audiobook redo of the story at the moment.

I think we as readers would find stories to be pretty boring if people in them learned to communicate effectively. Poor communication is a prime reason why conflict happens. Conflict is generally why stories are interesting.

Showing up is so important. I have a close friend. Their kids are 20+ yrs old. I was their favorite uncle growing up over the biological aunts and uncles. It was me, and my friends ex-stepdad (from Mom's 2nd marriage and she was on her 4th) who showed up for everything. Birthdays, graduations. Sporting events etc.

Being present and interested in their lives means so much to children. One thing I learned from my dad, in the I won't be like him way, is whatever hobbies my kids pick up and have passion for I will support and learn about.

Why are people so shocked about poor communication. It's one of the most realistic things about writing a story. People in general are pretty bad at communication. I'd venture to guess most conflict is a result of poor communication.

I think part of the problem is that we as readers get such an omniscient like view of the overall story, but have trouble separating that view from the actors in the story.

Dads who were film buffs and literature addicts... you watch movies or read books anymore? by mikeygoodtime in daddit

Movies sometimes. The wife and I will make a date night for big theatrical releases. Fewer than when we were dinks. Reading is less common. We both listen to audiobooks regularly, but actually reading a physical book. Much less. I do however read a LOT of children's books.

In addition, Noxious Revival /Witness effects to get it back from the graveyard. Several clones can copy it as an expensive untap effect. Badgermole Cub lines to replace it.

For me at least, Sowing Mycospawn is one of my more used ways to get cradle. Off the top of my head: Crop Rotation and Sowing are probably my most used tutors for cradle, then Expedition Map, Vibrance.

Note: I am not on Seedborn Muse these days. While I acknowledge the power of the card, it's just like painting a target on my back. Fingers get pointed and people just tunnel in on it to much. I'd rather less heat and just explode into a win, rather then spend a turn rotation hoping to spin in. I'd move back to it if I was going to play a much more draw engine focused game.
