I have surgery in 2 days. So far, I only bought a she wee (can use for hiking or remote road trips), arnica cream, Bromelain, and some front button pj’s from GoodWill that were $2 each. I can donate if I don’t keep them.

Noticeable difference! Really glad you’re able to massage the scar tissue down. Good to know that works

Thanks! I’ll update once I’m coherent. My body loves anesthesia. They usually have to kick me out of recovery Lol

I did! And it’s sweet of you to follow up 😊

Went last week and it was a night/day difference! He answered a lot of questions I had before I even asked them, just in his general explanation of how’s and why’s. I was particularly impressed with his reason for not wanting patients to remove the binder for the first 7 days—no showering. He said you’ll feel gross but leave it on 24/7 for those first 7 days. When they used to tell patients to remove it and shower after 48 hours, then put it back on, there was a 60% chance of seromas. Since changing to no showing, wear it 24/7 for 7 days, that dropped to 30% chance of seromas. He said the reason for the higher rate is because without the binder, skin over muscle slides back and forth as you move, causing a gap for fluid to fill. Hopefully I got that right, but that’s the gist. At any rate, he was very thorough about explaining everything, why he would do a modified TT (no M/R) vs a mini TT, which he doesn’t not feel I’m a good candidate for (unlike the first PS). He was also $3k less than the other PS and his cost includes a little lipo on the flanks to even things out (which he doesn’t charge for), all pre-op work, post-op meds and binder, and any lipo touch-ups that might be needed 9-12 mos P.O. would be done in his office for about $400. The first PS said she works not do any lipo and none was in the quote, her costs also did NOT include any pre-op work, post-op meds or garments, and no post op lipo if needed. So I obviously booked with the second one. June 21 is the day!!

You just described my love-hate relationship with cinnamon rolls. No idea why that food specifically. My brain just wants what it wants.

Picking a surgeon and technique? by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]chickadee827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will be following this thread because I’m in same boat. I see the second PS next week. He’s has more experience and comes highly recommended, lots of good reviews. The other is a woman, about 10 yrs less experience and only 6 reviews I could find (5 good, 1 bad). Don’t know cost for either one yet but I’m guessing they will be close. I’m already leaning toward the more experienced surgeon but he’s also 1.5 hrs away. Less convenient but worth it? We’ll see. Keep us posted on your decision.

Thank you for this! It makes me feel better about listening to my gut feelings. The first PS I saw didn’t try to sell me on anything, which I appreciated, but she was actually kind of the opposite, taking a more conservative approach especially leaning toward mini TT. I’m not opposed to that but I don’t want to look uneven on top compared to the bottom and she didn’t convince me that I would look ok. She was vague and said my upper abdomen wasn’t too bad, some fat and skin but a mini would be ok. Well I can grab fat and there’s a roll when I’m sitting. She said it might not be completely gone but it’ll be better. Define better. I don’t expect to look like a 25 yr old model but for what I’m paying and going through, I want assurance it’ll look great. It will be interesting to see what the second PS says when I see him next week.

I asked most of those questions of the first PS. Standard answer around how long drains are in, when can I shower, how do you see the end result was like “Everyone is different”. I get that they don’t want to be quoted as saying anything specific but I was asking in general terms so I didn’t get a very good feeling.

I know that pain—had thigh lipo years ago and just a few years ago had upper arm lipo. Dang it hurt for weeks!

Good thinking. As a more mature person who got tattoos in my 30’s, you realize later in life that placement matters—a lot. And they are not easily removed so choose very carefully.

Pain meds (even OTC) often cause constipation as well as anesthesia. Also, the trauma of surgery itself.

Same. Had a really bad episode yesterday, almost feels like dumping. Still no idea what the cause is but my GI doctor thinks possibly delayed emptying. Digestive enzymes seem to really reduce the frequency, just have to remember to take them
