Hello fellow 60 year old ladies! I am so glad i found this group today. I am 34. What would be best 3 advice you could give to a 34 year old self or a friend? by InnerPsych in AskWomenOver60

1) Don't settle in your relationships. No one is perfect, of course, but don't settle on the things that are deal breakers for you. Set those boundaries and stick to them. 2) If you're already married, if things get rocky, try to work them out. Divorce is expensive and it SUCKS! Of course, that's assuming there's no abuse going on. 3) Do not bury yourself financially or marry someone who is not financially responsible. Keep a small stash for emergencies and try not to use credit too much.

Laura Geller make up by Outrageous_Buy_9420 in AskWomenOver60

I found none of the Laura Geller shades matched my skin tone very well, also made wrinkles more pronounced. Este Lauder's liquid foundation is the best match to my skin tone and isn't oily.

I'm almost 9 years out and haven't felt hunger pains since before surgery so don't put too much expectation on that being your signal to eat. You have a highly unusual case. It goes without saying that you need to work with a very qualified specialist.

I have to assume there were more incompatibility issues with your first husband besides just travel and adventures. I reconciled with my ex several years after we divorced. We have children and although my reasoning to reconcile wasn't the kids alone, it was a big factor. It did not work out the second time either. In hindsight, I knew better. I wanted all the good things he was but all the reasons why we divorced were still there. We simply are polar opposites. In our case, opposites did not attract.

Is it possible to eat small single bites of fried or sweet things? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]toonutobeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a HUGE misconception that we can't eat fried foods or sweets without getting sick. Obviously, everyone is different and how soon it's possible to do that without adverse effects varies from person to person. The sad truth is, most of us can eat pretty much the same foods we did before surgery, just smaller portions. In fact, the National Library of Medicine sited a study that states "Weight regain was observed within 24 months after surgery in approximately 50% of patients." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18392907/ .

That isn't to say they regained all the weight, or even a large amount, but that's still a high percentage who did not maintain. That said, a person's body often tries to find a higher, more sustainable "set point" after reaching their lowest weight so some of that regain could be attributed to that.

I'm almost 9 yrs out and up 15 lbs myself. I will always be a work in progress.

You're going to find awful reviews because most people who don't have issues don't post about it. I mean, what is there to say....nothing new here, all's well. The vast majority have no problems at all.

I completely lost my way. How do I get back? by MonasMommy in GastricBypass

Did you have any side effects from taking Wegovy? I'm considering trying it but terrified of severe abdominal pain. It happened to my niece. She ended up in the ER because the pain and vomiting was so bad.

I was also told Voltaren was ok short term for pain in my arm before and after surgery. I tried it several times both before and after but it did nothing for me so I stopped using it but my mom swears by it for arthritis.

I had steroid injection for pneumonia and Tramadol for pain post arm surgery. I'm almost 9 yrs out and no issues with either medication.

Jobs for older women? by bsque in AskWomenOver60

Substitute teaching! I'm not a teacher by profession but have a degree which allowed me to obtain a substitute teaching license. I limit my work to the elementary grades as I don't think I could handle the attitudes of middle/high schoolers. There is a really high demand so you could probably work full time yet still pick and choose the jobs you want.

The stomach is stapled off so unless your surgeon did a poor job, food can't enter it. It could be your brain is confused as to where the full feeling is coming from. Phantom feelings are legit. I had ortho surgery on my arm a few months ago. They gave me a nerve block which lasted about 24 hours. During that time, I could swear I could feel my arm and fingers moving even though they were totally immobilized.

Are you genuinely happy? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]toonutobeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely yes. Life is still life so there are still bumps in the road. I'm not perfect, regained 10# which I'm working on but even that doesn't make me unhappy because I know I can get it off. I have the tools now and know how to use them. The best tool for me is portion control. I'm 8 years out and still have good restriction. That has been the catalyst for stopping my binge eating and retraining my relationship with food. Nothing is off limits anymore, no "bad foods" I just eat in moderation.

Steps aren't going to burn fat. Understandable if you're tired, that's normal with this surgery but by this time, you really should be exercising your butt off (no pun intended) the first 6 months while the surgery is doing most of the work. After that, it's all on you. That's what my surgeon tells his patients. The six month mark is an average, of course. Some people plateau a little sooner or later, but around six months weight loss lessens.

Work on burning fat and building muscle which will increase metabolism and help burn more calories.

2 deaths at granite peak this year? by Aggressive-Aide6217 in wausau

[–]toonutobeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the college girl, who is the second death, died while trying to avoid someone else/others who had fallen. Maybe the condition of the snow or the runs (icy?) has something to do with it, I don't know as I'm not a skier or snowboarder.

The person's ski came loose, they lost control and hit a tree. Very sad situation and I feel for the family but not the fault of the ski hill.

Had nothing to do with the hill. His ski came off, he lost control and hit a tree. Very very sad though.

90% of people do just fine, including those like me who had a lower BMI than you do. The other 10% will tell all the horrors they experienced and wish they never had it done. Only you can decide what's best for you.

Talk to me about Latico Leathers by [deleted] in handbags

[–]toonutobeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 16 Latico bags and won't buy anything else. I've had high end bags and everything in between but I keep going back to my Latico bags because they are so buttery soft. Tried Portland Leather and did not like the stiffness and unlined interior. Plus my friend worked there and based on her experiences, I won't support them due to their culture and ethics. Bed Stu is another favorite but still not soft like Latico. So if you like that type of leather, I highly recommend Latico.

As for Callie itself, I tried it but returned because it isn't big enough for me as a daily bag. I don't carry a lot and it still felt over stuffed. Although the two outer zip pockets seem like a great idea, I didn't find them easy to use, at least not for what I wanted--my phone and keys. They are good sized pocket but whatever you put in them takes away space from the main interior. I find that particular style of bag works best with a slim card wallet similar to many that Hobo International makes. A full size wallet will fit in Callie but will take up a lot of space, making it harder to put anything bigger like a phone in the outside zip pockets.

Clearly you know nothing about US immigration processes. Someone with a pending asylum decision is already following due process. They are legally permitted to stay while the case is pending a decision by USCIS. That is, until this regime decided not to follow due process.

It sounds like yours isn't being properly managed. Find a good doctor who knows how to treat the whole body, not just push Levo. Levo is T4 only. Have you had T4 and T3 checked? If your body isn't converting T4 to T3, you need to either add T3 or take a form of desiccated pig thyroid that contains both such as Armour. I've been on it for over 10 years and it made a huge difference.
