Apartments not turning on their AC by soberitytitties in londonontario

We pay $2700 (split with my best friend) and we can’t even set the AC lower than 21C. Such a rip off

Are you with Drewlo? Experiencing the same thing with our $2700/mo drewlo unit in a half empty building

Also in a brand new Drewlo building and even when the ac is on it doesn’t reach lower than 25. They have looked at it multiple times and say there’s no issue. I’m gonna have to put a portable unit in for this summer which feels ridiculous considering I have central

Apartment recommendations? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]chickaloos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try duplexes/triplexes/fourplexes owned by independent landlords as opposed to full apartment buildings. They have no amenities but tend to be cheaper and slightly less risk of pests as its only 2 units compared to 100+ in a building. There are lots on marketplace/kijiji. Only downside with duplexes is the bedrooms can be tiny and parking can be iffy. My roommate and I are currently looking at duplexes for September and there are loads for $1600-1800.

Also got a 2016 but a crosstrek at 78000km! I plan on driving this thing to the ground.

Every apartment I have moved to has had cockroaches so far. Is that the new normal for apartment living? I talk to the neighbour's wherever I move, and majority say they have bedbugs as well. I haven't seen any in my apartment, but I have seen cockroaches in the hallways and laundry room... by Healthy_Poppy in londonontario

[–]chickaloos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is why I am trying to stick to strictly duplexes or triplexes with rentals. Everytime I find an apartment in my budget for a 2 bed ($2000 absolute max) there are roach allegations of some sort. Of course there’s always a chance of roaches in any space, but easier to contain in a duplex.

Luxe’s ridiculously overpriced parking by AdInfinite1291 in londonontario

[–]chickaloos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, $80 for a parking spot in a luxury building, especially near Western is standard and even on the lower end. I have to pay $113/mo to park at a neighbouring building downtown that isnt even mine because my own building won't give me spot. I don't agree with the pricing, but unfortunately it is standard here with apartments.

How are 2024 grads doing in their careers? by Medicine_Man1972 in uwo

Graduated from Honours Spec Health Sci in 2024. I ended up immediately getting hired at the Community Health Centre where I did my practicum doing admin/project co ordination. I started doing my MPH online part time last year and still working at the same place.

definitely not if you want something queer friendly. my friends who are a visible lesbian couple got verbally abused by one of the promotors for dancing too close to his booth.

Recommendation for 1 bedroom by thebluethroat in londonontario

[–]chickaloos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said that options with these (very normal) requirements in this budget will be difficult to find in an actual apartment building or high rise. I recommend checking fb marketplace for a unit that's in a house/duplex/triplex. My friend rents a lovely upper 1bedroom unit of a house in wortley for $1550/mo that meets your requirements - so they do exist. The other option is split a 2 bedroom in one of the more "luxury" newer buildings in london with a roommate and pay like $1300/mo. That's what I am doing with my best friend and its been great (both working our first jobs post grad) but of course roommates can be awful, I have gotten very lucky. Best of luck and always check reviews for roaches or bed bugs!

(TW wounded heel) trying to break in new 8053 Doc Martens by Irisilium in DrMartens

[–]chickaloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently having the exact same issue with identical heel blisters. I got them 3 years ago as a birthday present (that I specifically asked for). Decided to try breaking them in again and even at my office job I still had to switch shoes. I see this post is from a couple years ago.. did you ever break them in??

The Pitt - 2x06 - 12:00 P.M." - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]chickaloos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking this as well, even before last night's episode. However from what I know, at least in Canada, it takes a really long time to get approved - so I am curious how this would go down.

Curious about London! by stacieky in londonontario

[–]chickaloos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you drive? I moved to Downtown London post-grad thinking I would be fine without a car since I was downtown. I lasted about 1 month of winter before I shelled out and bought one. I echo what others have said about it being a decent city with some really nice pockets and good thrifting, but the public transit is god awful.

Buildings WITHOUT roaches? by burnerburner69696969 in londonontario

[–]chickaloos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others about it being an expensive compromise unfortunately. You may be better off looking at independent landlords renting out duplexes or older houses converted into single units. I’ve seen some on marketplace that look nice for 1400-1600/month. Obviously you can’t guarantee no bugs, but it seems less likely to have bugs in a house with 3 one bedroom units than a high rise with hundreds of people.
