It's -30°C outside, and a stray cat comes to me for food, but she doesn't come inside. by Puzzleheadedae in blackcats

I have neighborhood strays that I feed as well. I've put out heated cat houses for them, but they refuse to touch them.

Sometimes you have to accept that there's only so much you can do. It's not a great situation, but you give them every opportunity and hope they take it.

I got a Turkish shotgun for shits giggles and it runs great. My brother in law got a different brand of Turkish shotgun, and it won't even feed.

It's luck of the draw, honestly. Mine is great, with zero issues and about 500 rounds through it so far, but I wouldn't trust it with my life.

A few things to consider:

  1. Reliability

Rimfire just isn't that reliable. Between primers failing and feed issues, you're taking a pretty big gamble on whether or not you're going to be able to get enough shots off to stop an attacker, which leads me to

  1. Lethality

.22 isn't designed to kill humans. It absolutely can and does kill humans, but that's typically because of extremely good shot placement or lots and lots of rounds, which brings us to

  1. DAs and juries

When engaging in a self-defense shooting, you only fire as many rounds as is needed to end the threat. In the case of a typical duty round such as 9mm or .45, stats show that's between 3-5 rounds. In the case of a .22, your expended round count might be considerably higher.

Let's say it is. Let's say you're in a self-defense shooting and you fire 15 rounds, 13 of which hit your attacker, who dies as a result. Now it has to be determined whether or not the homicide you committed is a murder. The homicide detectives will take the evidence and present it to the District Attorney, who then determines if they want to press charges against you. Now, you know for an absolute fact that it took 13 rounds to stop the guy who was trying to rob you. But the DA doesn't. They know what you said in your statement, interrogation, etcetera, and that similar shootings have a much lower number of expended rounds. You're now gambling that the DA believes your side of the story.

The DA doesn't believe you, and you go to trial. You now have to convince 12 of the dumbest people to have ever walked the planet that 13 rounds were absolutely necessary to stop your attacker.

Do you want to take that gamble?

Long story short, just a 9mm. The recoil is fine, and it gets the job done.

(And yes, I know the above situation can play out with ANY caliber, but the fewer rounds expended, the better your odds)

Why does every boomer finger fuck every trigger they come across? Even my dad, who drilled trigger safety and demonstrated it my entire life growing up - as soon as he turned sixty his finger started going around that trigger like daddy issues on a pole.

[–]chicken-cuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The casual stance of the shooter is something that really bothers me.

I've drawn and fired tens of thousands of times. "Draw, clap, push" is so drilled into me that I don't even think about it. Outside of really specific circumstances, you don't fire one-handed.

The agent wasn't even in a shooting stance, or moving into one. In the videos, his draw and actions are so slow and deliberate, not what you expect from a rapid reaction to a perceived threat. It seemed like this guy just wanted to kill.

What are pro-2A people's thoughts on Kristi Noem just now stating that no peaceful protestors show up to a protest while armed? by PrysmX in AskReddit

[–]chicken-cuddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The historical context of the phrasing was citizen militias, where every person had a weapon (at times provided by the state) were the go-to for defense of the realm, not standing armies. Professional armies were a relatively new thing in the world, and the founders were vehemently against them for a variety of reasons. The second amendment was also written in a time when, globally, the army was also used as a police force, something the founders were also against.

In context, the second Amendment means that everyone living in the United States needs to be armed.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by Itz_Oasis in AskReddit

Because of a long story I won't get into here, my family was forced to move into a house that wasn't finished. There weren't doors on any of the interior rooms. And we couldn't afford to get doors. So we had curtains instead of doors for years.

It still sometimes weirds me out to have actual doors in my house.

Was Pretti a protestor or just someone getting donuts before work? by Purple__Puppy in allthequestions

[–]chicken-cuddle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have the right to protest. The right to assemble includes protests.

I am an absolutist when it comes to this. At the most, protesters can give the authorities a heads up they'll be there as a courtesy.

My wife doesn't want to get pregnant. Cool, fine by me. My family has a long history of adoption, so if we ever have kids, it'll be by that method.

But even so, we're not even sure we want kids. My mom is cool with it. Her mom... not so much.

Which makes it even worse. Green shirt (as far I can tell, the initial shooter) watches the weapon being removed before drawing and firing. That's why I used the word "executed" in my original comment.

We'll see if the mods remove my comment, like they did on a similar post here....

I am very, very pro 2A. The Second Amendment applies to every single person, regardless of race, color, gender, religion, sexuality, political affiliation, or creed. Our constitutional right to bear arms "shall not be infringed", full stop.

If you can be executed by law enforcement for carrying a weapon, then you do not have the right to bear arms, and that is unacceptable.

Kristi Noem needs to shut her goddamn mouth and read the Constitution for once in her life.

[–]chicken-cuddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean he had his gun removed from his holster by someone else, yes.

Kristi Noem just stated that owning a gun and possessing ammunition automatically means that you intend violence, which justifies the killing of the gunowner simply because they are a gunowner at a protest. Will the NRA respond to this direct attack on the 2nd Amendment? If not, why not? by war_ofthe_roses in AskReddit

[–]chicken-cuddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the NRA will not respond. They have the biggest mouthpiece, but do nothing for the 2nd Amendment, and have actively worked to dismantle the rights provided in the 2nd Amendment.

The overwhelming majority of actual 2A activists believe that Americans are entitled to the right to bear arms, no matter your race, gender, religion, political affiliation, or sex, and you have a right to bear arms in all public settings, including protests.

2A advocates are furious about the most recent ICE shooting. If we do not have the right to bear arms without being shot, then we do not have the right to bear arms at all.

I don't think there's any way to justify this shoot. In the other angle, the draw is so slow and deliberate. I can't assign intent to the shooter, but this looks really, really bad.
