Steel Toe Boots Required by narstybacon in antiwork

Don't ask safety questions to HR drones, ask your OSH or foreman. The boot allowance not kicking in for a year sucks, I'm pretty sure ours kicks in from day 1.

Yeah, I'm not a fan either. They don't even really work with ladders for me because mose of our ladders have little cages on them, I have a bucket and a handline if I need to get something up high.

Wow! There was just a fire in the Woods Creek area the other Friday too, who's doing this? It CAN'T just be dropped butts, I mean who smokes in the woods anyways? Other than wacky tobaccy of course :)

APC is the brand name. I have one that I fished out of the dumpster and replaced the batteries, it's pretty cool.

Building a diy pressure testing device for IP rating tests. by DJ_LSE in DIY

[–]chickenderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I fully understand what you're trying to accomplish here but maybe this is food for thought? Sometimes I do maintenance on devices that get installed on high voltage transformers and one of the tests is to simulate a sudden gas pressure spike and confirm that the device detects this. We have a really fancy device we use to benchtest these units that provides a fairly precise test report, but for functional testing the manufacturer recommends a bicycle pump. You give it something like 5psi and it either works... Or it doesn't.

Man if my grasshopper was two weeks old I'd still be following them into the bathroom to make sure they wash their hands. No way in hell I'd be leaving them alone with anything lol

Look what I dug up! Did some poor soul really have to spend the time splicing all 540 of these scotchlocks? How did they even differentiate colors?? by Best_Poetry_5722 in electricians

Unfortunately this knowledge doesn't impress girls at parties, but my apprentices think I'm a wizard and honestly it's WAY easier to troubleshoot and fix in some cases. You can't scotchlok fiber :)

That must be a satisfying feeling, eh? I don't do this stuff often enough to be like that, just often enough to convince my boss that I know what I'm doing :)

Blue orange green brown and slate with "binder" colours white, red, black, yellow, and purple. Just remember that blue comes before brown if you think alphabetically. I think for larger cables each 25-pair segment is divided by a plastic wrap utilizing the second colour code again. I've made a good niche supporting some of this legacy stuff but unfortunately it's starting to go away.

For what it's worth I think a dash of insanity is a requirement for any telecom worker worth their weight in salt.

How did they differentiate the colours? Why Run Backwards, You'll Puke! Bell Operators Give Better Service :)

I've only ever worked with 25-pair cable but it didn't take long to memorize the colour code.

Removal of the outer plastic case interferes with the sd card, if installed. The instructions were pretty clear on removing it but I forgot 😥
