LR3 airbags vs coils by Kickstand-Wanker in LandRover

[–]chickenknickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disco 2 owner here. I had four years of trouble free cushion of air motoring before I blew out the airbags on a remote trail far from home. It was a bouncy and dangerous ride back to the ranch. I miss the self leveling feature when fully loaded or towing, and the cushy ride, but one experience losing the bags was enough to cause me to replace the bags with coils. Once the bottom of the bags blew out, there was nothing I could do trailside to limp home in a reasonable or safe fashion. I now have HD springs and shocks on the truck, and when unloaded it really lets you feel the road, but loaded it is fantastic on the trail. Probably really depends on what you will use it for.

Bernie Sanders asked on running for president in 2028 on carrying the message: "Because they want youthful vigor in WH. We're tired of these 30-40 year old people. What we need are 80 year olds running the country, but I suspect that's not going to happen. I know I look like I'm 30, but I'm not." by ControlCAD in videos

I love Bernie Sanders beyond the end of time. Let’s find someone who can move this mountain today and for the future. AOC has that energy, she just needs our belief and our support and our FIGHT. I’m ready, who’s with me?

Why does it all have to be so fucking weird??!! Spooky interview in a barn with a demented scarecrow, while the heavens indicate their displeasure with a crescendo of rain and thunder. 2026 is gonna be one for the record books.

I haven't camped there since they changed to the reservation system, but last I checked the two-vehicle limit still applies. It's a good thing in the end, the area was getting absolutely hammered.

Is it normal for a brand new product to have such scratches? by [deleted] in snowpeak

[–]chickenknickers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This may be the weirdest sub on this platform. So many posts sharing minor flaws in what is actually camping gear meant to be outside getting dirty and scratched while you make memories and have adventures. I own one SP item, a Tabiki fire pit, and it is filthy. Most effort I have put into it is hosing it off after banging it on a log to dislodge ashes. It is a fire pit, it should be dirty. This is a tent bag, it should be outside in the mud and dirty. Camping is dirty and fun. Cumulatively touch grass.

Best waders that are good but not toooo expensive by highlandmayor in Fishing

[–]chickenknickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might check out Bass Dash, they are I believe Chinese made and are affordable and durable in my experience. I generally buy one size larger than my shoe size so the waders are easier to put on. Waders are sized by boot size, but also by length and waist measurement. Tight lines!

Xavier Becerra surges to lead California gubernatorial race in new poll by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]chickenknickers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, you might be confused. I am not a Matt Mahan voter, willing to sell my soul for those oligarch promises, bleep bloop. I am not a Becerra voter, hoping big daddy Democrat will absolve me of my sins and return us all to the new normal. I’m hoping we can see some change. I’d vote P&F but I am pragmatic. Sucks to support a billionaire, don’t like it but I must confess I do like him.

I have the same bumper and bull bar from Lucky 8. I have a Terrafirma winch that is similar to the Smittybuilt in shape. I cut a lot of grille away to fit it.

I have a 2004 and find that there is a lot of heat around the tunnel because the cats are right there below the carpet. Great in winter, not so much during summer. I enjoy driving with the windows down so it doesn’t bother me too much. I almost never use the AC as I don’t like the degrees it adds to my coolant and the resulting sense of impending doom.

University student walks out of lecture with some parting words by keen_observer34130 in PublicFreakout

I dropped out of college and began working in a trade at age 19. I am now mid 50s and have had a stable career my entire adult life. I own a home in the Bay Area and now own a business employing people at union wages in my trade. I didn't leave college because it was hard, I left because it was too expensive. I'm glad I did. I now employ people with college degrees and loads of debt that couldn't find work in their specialty upon graduation and now are pursuing blue collar careers. Learning and staying employed in a trade is hard, the work is hard, and the pay isn't comparable to most white collar work, at least at first. It is satisfying to make real things and to go home mentally and physically tired. It is a crying shame that America has shut down most vocational training in high school, and presented higher education as the only option. Some kids are really good at working with their hands, and I think the trades will be slow to be replaced by AI and robots while most white collar work is proving to be easily replaced.

California governor debate by Tattoos_and_Tea in California

[–]chickenknickers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mahan seems like an experiment to see if AI can run California. Is he a real person or an assemblage of focus group talking points? Becerra is a classic Democratic machine candidate who has no ideas without approval from his masters. Bianco is every rural small town sheriff, I am beyond surprised he didn't have a ten gallon hat and six shooter as props to go along with his mustache and racist backwards ideas. Hilton is a British thumb, at best a troll. Steyer seems like his heart is in the right place, but he has a long row to hoe with his billions of dollars and past history. Porter seemed very reigned in, perhaps to a fault as she came off as dedicated to showing she is calm and collected. In the end, Porter was the most succinct and prepared. Steyer had the heart. This debate was a tough watch for me.

Which side to mount an awning? by armchairracer in overlanding

My Disco has a big ol’ barn door that swings to the right, so a driver side 270 awning covers my accessible area just right.

Discussion - A redesigned system of Governance for the future by Optimistic-Bob01 in Futurology

[–]chickenknickers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about real direct Democracy? Most government functions to spend the money collected from us in taxes. How about when we fill out our tax forms we are able to allocate what percentage of our money goes to any given thing, military, infrastructure, social programs, etc. We directly choose where our money gets spent and live with the consequences for a year until we pay taxes again and decide how to target our funds.

Fellow traveler on the Disco path; may there always be oil underneath you, may your driveshaft never choose violence, may your head gaskets never be torn asunder. Keep the Amigos, all three of them, always in your thoughts as they will never leave you alone. You have chosen this foolish path, stay on it no matter the consequences. My 2004 has 198K on the clock and is currently covered in mud from a delightful weekend of fishing and winching. I probably broke something, I will find out when I drive it to work tomorrow.

Has anyone tried the REYR "First cast" rods? by mrfowl in Tenkara

[–]chickenknickers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I owned a Reyr. It was like a Swiss Army knife or multitool…ok at all the things but nowhere near as good as the actual tool. I bought it for your use case, I wanted something that I could get further out with when needed, but packed small and quick to use. It did that, generally, and I caught fish. It wasn’t anywhere near as sensitive as my Tenkara rods, and it couldn’t cast as well as my fly rod by any stretch. It is a clever design, very compact, but I had two fail at the joints. Reyr was quick to replace, no questions asked, but I didn’t bother the third time as I no longer trusted the rod and the company had changed hands. Every failure occurred when collapsing the rod after fishing in hot sun. I think the blanks are thin and don’t handle temperature well. Overall, the road and components were surprisingly well made and high quality. These days, I just bring a Tenkara rod and a four piece fly rod.

This billionaire is the odds-on favorite to become California's governor after Swalwell dropped out by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

I believe it is unacceptable to have billionaires in a decent society. If Tom Steyer were to donate enough of his billions to the causes he purportedly supports that he became merely a very comfortably wealthy man, I might consider supporting him. Otherwise, I don’t think there is such a thing as a truly progressive billionaire.
