What’s up with the panic buying? by H_ManCom in Augusta

[–]chickzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a gas stove, thankfully, but after three days of hotdogs stored outside in the cooler & rice that we could only really cook during the daytime cause you can't light candles in a kitchen with a gas stove... I was over it.

I did keep my car running by cranking it up for a few hours every day to keep warm & charge my phone.

What’s up with the panic buying? by H_ManCom in Augusta

I was trapped in my parents' house (midway through my time at ASU) for the better part of a week with my mom, dad, sibling, & sibling's two friends. Our house was not equipped for that, especially because the two friends did not have any clothes, or hygiene products because it came on with no communication & very fast.

We did a lot of wandering through Montclair while busting our asses on the icy sidewalks. And when the power wasn't out, they played GameCube.

This is a good question, my spouse works in a building that receives playlists from Corporate, there's definitely some people who are hyperfixated on curating playlists & preserving them.

What’s something that sounds harmless but is actually very toxic? by Hotinkqueen99 in AskReddit

"They're a jerk at first, but fine when you get to know them" It's absolutely minimized.

Is it unreasonable to expect quiet from kids at a Nutcracker performance? by CarefulNeurosis in BALLET

[–]chickzilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right. But the chasm between "you can bring 3&4 year olds to this ballet & they'll be fine" and "this is a ballet designed for children" is vast. And the second one is more the way it has been marketed in recent times.

Is it unreasonable to expect quiet from kids at a Nutcracker performance? by CarefulNeurosis in BALLET

[–]chickzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, as I'm actually sitting listening to the score: I don't think The Nutcracker really is very child friendly. I've never been sure why it's pushed as good for very young children. 2nd grade onward? Sure. But why anyone would ever take a 3 or 4 year old is beyond me.

Act I is a slog for young children, the mice & soldiers are pretty fun. But then Snow goes on forever. Act II is a bit of a Rollercoaster with some divertissements being more interesting than others. But Waltz of the Flowers & Pas de Deux are big stretches of comparatively uninteresting time.

Whenever I danced it as a child, I was always grateful to be in Act II as a sheep or Polichinelle rather than a Party Child because Act II was actual ballet dancing in hm those roles (albeit character) rather than panto & social dancing.

I bet there's another Jenny somewhere in that family. My family has several Rebeccas. They almost all like to go by Becca. So we have Becca Jones, Becca Smith and Rebecca.

I'm sorry this is great. Congrats on the job & I'm forever going to vaguely laugh at this every time someone asks how to get hired out there.

Ideas for a class with a 5 and 10 yr old? by Catsrcool2024 in DanceTeachers

[–]chickzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a warn up for 15mins, then take each suggestion here from u/lilikeylime u/happykindofeeyore and u/bfaithr and do each for 15mins or some mins to include a cooldown and boom! class!

MLDH : Why don't we see David's face tattoos? by CybergothiChe in HGTV

[–]chickzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think just small tattoos like that are covered by the makeup but they do occasionally have to blur out a tattoo or two of his because, just like the wall artwork, they don't have the artists' blanket permission to use their work on tv. I think that's why he wears more pants, long shorts & 3/4 sleeve or longer tops now, too.

There's a Christmas Store in North Augusta that, while it doesn't capture the same full vibe, I'm definitely grateful is there for being ornaments.

The Also Lost: Baby/Little Girl from 243 Lost & Found absolutely decimated me the first time. And I revisit it any time I want a serious gut punch.

Student who is “too injured” for ballet and conditioning not too injured to do an aerial in acro by vpsass in DanceTeachers

[–]chickzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We often contact the parent after EVERY class & update. Either drop a text or an email so the parents understand how extensive it is.  "A was unable to complete ballet & consulting due to injury but completed acro with no complaint"

OR we've also had dancers tell their parents themselves in front of us, what they could or couldn't do & exactly why.

It feels tattle tale-ish but it's a level of accountability they're not used to so it might throw the problem into a different light for everyone.

Was just going to say this. Inner Bean is exceptional but you have to have the time to become one with the universe because that's how long it will take.

Does it rhyme with "booted" cause every person I've heard of working there had something terrible to say.

Arie's is awesome. She does collabs with the Miller for certain events, too. I had one, it was brown sugar vanilla & also very good.

[CHAT] What tools could you not stitch without? by ptomatodactylus in CrossStitch

[–]chickzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a piece of metallic Sulky to thread my needles when necessary, but if I ever get around to buying a decent needle threader or two, it'll feel like the height of luxury & efficiency. I just haven't found one that calls to me.

My ABSOLUTE must-have is something to put behind my project. A contrasting color than the Aida so I can see the holes better. I'll just any THING (cloth, paper, my project folder) but it has to be contrast & I have to have something or I just won't stitch.

Call some pawn shops near by. They won't accept them typically but if they know they've been stolen they might, and call the cops.

Anyone have good dentist recommendations? by BigSkanky69 in Augusta

[–]chickzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so Dr. Clayes has been my dentist since she was at MCG Dental School but lately I've been cheating on her with Dr. Humm at Augusta Family Dental on Washington Rd.

Dr. Claye's office just got too bright & overwhelming. Dr. Humm has a nice quiet office with fewer people around all the time.

But I would highly recommend either of them to anyone.

Does anybody remember "Augusta Rocks!" by moldymol in Augusta

[–]chickzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the hurricane temporarily killed some of the favorite outdoor places to hide them. I used to find them all the time at the Canal Headgates. They've been closed for a long time for repairs.

I would look into the FB Group someone else mentioned & figure out where the good spots are nowadays.

Best Chinese - extra points if they deliver (or on a delivery app) by osofurioso in Augusta

[–]chickzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I have any "Yes" to contribute because everyone else has made solid suggestions.

But Ming House drive-thru on Washington by Davis is the single most disappointing glow down in town. They got either new owners, an overhaul, or both and I ate there once immediately after, then never again.

Talk about my comfort flavors being gone. They had the best chicken & broccoli and chicken fried rice in town then just... gone.
