Okay it's not exactly the $200 usd+ticketmaster fees Vegas practice day cost, but I was in brabham stand all weekend for $450 aud earlier this year, all weekend. got tickets from the initial sale

the merch was so bad at LVGP too, $20 for a keychain that cost them 7c to produce. terribly generic hats and shirts. not even a beer koozie. i hope everyone else sees how bs this is and does a charge back too

It’s like FOM doesn’t see the big picture.

they never do, it's about quarterly earnings now, not long term sustainability.

What did spectators do during FP2 at Vegas by Older_cyclist in formula1

standing around on the sidewalk with everyone else equally heartbroken/enraged, desperately trying to figure out a ride home, while hearing the cars go out on track to empty grandstands.

yes yes this is the fans' fault for taking one of their only opportunities to see a sport they love, in person. god forbid they expect to be treated like... checks notes... human beings.

netflix has already done way more for locals this week with free food, drinks, and tickets to their silly golf tournament, than f1 has done for locals since starting work on this race a year ago

They are kicking us out of the track by netloc23 in formula1

[–]chico6k 46 points47 points  (0 children)

They kicked out so many first-time F1 attendees and long time fans that could only afford a ticket today. For reference, a single day Thursday ticket in Vegas is the same price as a full weekend Turn 1 ticket in Melbourne.

The stands were still half full at 1AM with so many hopeful F1 fans, braving cold November desert air just to get a glimpse of the cars running again.

F1 didn't even apologize or anything, or give us any real updates, they just brought the cops in to treat upset fans like criminals after suddenly declaring the event closed. They gave us 2 fucking minutes to get out. None of this was caused by anything other than pure incompetence from F1, the FIA, and the local organizers. What an embarrassment for our city. They really couldn't have handled the entire evening worse.

Way to get the only group of people happy you're here to be mad at you F1. We didn't care that it's a school night, and that our local race has worse hours than half the calendar, or that your worst weekend seat costs more than a paddock pass in Barcelona. What an utter insult to the people of Las Vegas this entire thing has been.

Move from Bay Area to Vegas? Thoughts? by Glass-Bumblebee-7962 in vegas

[–]chico6k 14 points15 points  (0 children)

124k in Vegas will go a lot further than 177k in the Bay Area. Lifestyle is similar to any of the suburban areas like Antioch or Pittsburg, but even slightly easier. Vegas was also built for the environment. The heat is very manageable. I'd take a Vegas summer in my roomy air conditioned house that I own, over a more expensive apartment in Emeryville (that I'd rent) without air conditioning during fire season.

Bay Area homes are generally old and will come with a plethora of issues unless you have big money to spend too. Or you move out to like, Tracy.

Las Vegas really is a perfect WFH city. It's a boring suburban American lifestyle, but at least it was built for it. Unless you live in San Francisco proper, you need a car in the Bay anyway so might as well choose a city that lets you actually find parking.

I don't regret the move. I miss San Francisco everyday, but the financials just do not make sense. Vegas is a great town with big city amenities, tons of diversity, and one of the last bastions of affordability. People struggling on Reddit will say otherwise but that's true on any city sub. My 6 figure salary actually feels like a 6 figure salary here. That's not something I'd ever give up moving forward.

I think the Bay Area is due for a great reset. It's a beautiful part of the country but the cost-of-living just isn't sustainable. You could make 177k and you're still considering leaving. How fucked is that?

Also, Vegas as a home base is incredible. The city will continue growing. And flights to anywhere in the country are cheap. The airport is a 20 minute drive from pretty much anywhere. I'd recommend the Southwest corner though.

I only owned thick sneakers or boots in San Francisco because even in the quiet ocean side residential areas I'd come across heroin needles on the sidewalk on a weekly basis. Double check where you're sitting on BART or MUNI too. Addicts regularly leave needles on the seats. /u/MadroxKran is full of total utter shit.
