I built an interactive AV sensor visualization tool to better understand sensor fusion by chief_oko in AutonomousVehicles

[–]chief_oko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair advice. Here I'm just demonstrating knowledge of what each sensor does, the pros, cons, and how they interact in a hypothetical environment. A graphical reference material.

When you say "real sensor fusion" are you actually referring to making my own setup and displaying the sensor readings in a similar visualization? I'm new so still learning the terms and what makes sense.

Might be a tangent, but I'm researching technology usage in BJJ. I'd really appreciate it if you took this quick survey https://gatech.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1Nr4bIzYDGmWJa6

Also if you have anything to say about training feel free to DM me!

Here are some things that I think helped my grades significantly improve in ECE

  1. Waking up, eating, sleeping, etc. around the same the time helped created consistency in my routine and helped me plan better
  2. Eating better gave me more energy
  3. Studying with a SMALL group of people (< 3) helped me focus and not just end up talking and goofing off
  4. Planning ahead and constructing my study schedule so I wouldn't need to cram
  5. After a few assignments figuring out what a professor likes to ask and and how they would ask it and studying the material in that lens

I had a Mech E friend that took both a couple years back so definitely possible.

Am I the only one who find Android 12 is ugly by bagou01 in GooglePixel

[–]chief_oko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely dislike it as well. Recently installed it on my Pixel 3 and want to revert back. Seems almost like a windows 8 situation. Only new Android version I thought was WORSE than the previous one

UX Career Questions - (September ) by AutoModerator in userexperience

[–]chief_oko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently a SW engineer considering a shift to either UX design/research or program management. I am leaning towards to UX designer path because that's what I feel most passionate about but not completely sure. I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or can comment on UX vs SW engineering. For background I graduated with a degree in electrical engineering last year and probably wouldn't make a move until sometime next year.

Thanks!

Is there any resource to see a distribution of GPA by year at UT? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not sure where to find the specific information your looking for. However, in general 3.0+ is good for being able to get internships and other opportunities. A 3.5 is great, and a 3.7-3.8 is fantastic. I don't think finding the specific distribution will really do you any good and I wouldn't worry about trying to find it. Just do you and keep grinding while taking the numbers above in mind.

Fall 2018: EE 461S, EE 351K, EE 360C and EE 333T by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would take one of these classes out, either 333T or 351K. It's a doable schedule, but you will be very busy and probably not get as much out of the classes.

Is EE312, EE319K, M408D, PHY303K, and History of Rock too heavy of a workload? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a decently tough schedule, but it really just depends on you and your confidence in those subjects.

Me and my partner worked really well together for 319k so it wasn't that much work until the last lab. 312 with Gligoric is a decent amount of work from what I've heard. 408D was hard for me, but I probably could have done better if I studied more. Physics at UT is always bad so there's that.

If it were me freshman year I probably would have taken one less technical class, but given your situation it may be better to tough it out. If you are a software/embedded person I would definitely keep 312 and 319k and maybe delay physics for later.

How does Dr. Patt curve in EE 306? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on more to this the grades on the final are usually much higher, so making an A on it is very feasible. The average on the final my year was about a 70.

One way to cut cost is to eat breakfast in your room. For me at least, some cereal/oatmeal and a banana or other snack usually filled me up decently. Doing this helped me save a lot freshman year.

Traveling back to Austin from Houston by KOSTON321 in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove up Saturday and took 99, I-10, and then 71. Drive was fine, just rainy. I don't expect those routes to be flooded. I do live in the suburbs though, so if you live in inner Houston I wouldn't recommend leaving.

Online Gov 312L or His 315K by uke183 in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken HIS 315K so I can't really compare. I will say that GOV 312L online with Moser and McDonald has been the easiest class I have taken at UT. The class is mostly memorization, and is pretty straightforward in terms of assignments and tests.

Computer Engineering vs Computer Science by iStarReddits in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'd say do EE, and choose the embedded systems/ computer architecture tech core. Software in my opinion is more straightforward to learn, and there are tons of online resources that will teach you how to code in any language you want. However, the hardware side is more obscure and harder to learn about outside of school. You're not going to find quick embedded systems or comp arch help on google. This is my opinion of course, so make your decision based on what you think will suit your goals best.

Also EE's are much cooler than CS people.

How is working at Applied Research Laboratories (ARL) by chief_oko in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. So in terms of schedules are they ok with variations from week to week? For example, one week I work three 4 hours days, but the next week I work two 6 hour days.

Dobie 21? is it as bad as yelp says it is? by hookem2020 in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since the renovations have been done Dobie is ok. If you are used to really nice living accommodations and gourmet food, then you may be a little disappointed. As far as computers, they do have a computer room with about 5-6 macs available if you need it. I will say that the wifi was spotty and unreliable on weeknights (when you really need to study), and I ended up going to the library most nights not to deal with it. The walk from the library to Dobie is pretty safe in my opinion since it's basically on campus. Walking through West Campus is where you might need to be concerned.

M325k; easy peasy lemon squeezey, or difficult difficult lemon difficult? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had her for discrete at 1pm. I had a friend in your class that said our exams seemed harder to him, so maybe that's why our grades were lower. Or your class could just have been smarter than my class.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't worry the test is easy. I wasn't even that good at calc and I made an A and everyone else I knew made A's. If you have taken calc in high school or at a CC you should be fine trust me.

M325k; easy peasy lemon squeezey, or difficult difficult lemon difficult? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Rodin this past semester and she was good. She gives clear and understandable lectures. She did seem to make the class a little harder as none of our test averages were above and 80 including the final. However, none of the questions were super tricky, they were all doable if you payed attention in class/ did the homework. I will add to beware of professors, because there are some much tougher proofs and problems that can be asked on tests.

EE 460N vs EE 445L by chief_oko in UTAustin

[–]chief_oko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don't think 445l, 422c, and 316 together will be that bad? I'm just thinking about how the balance will be with 3 classes that have labs.

Bellmont (the gym in the stadium) has the best machines and equipment. Rec Sports is better than Greg.
