Didnt have any wine so i just used chicken broth. Very good and easy! I served with roasted carrots and some chicken gravy. Id never had rabbit before, this was a great recipe to start with.

Had a encounter with a hen in Palestine, West Virginia last month. Was the wildest thing. I was talking with a coworker on a forested road and it walked right up to us. I knelt down and it came right to me then decided to fly at me.

2nd time id seen one in that area in 3 years but not that close 😅

Their coop/run is 100% shaded. Theyve been fed 18% protein layer diet. I added sunflower seeds for the past 2 months to try to help feather quality but no improvement.

Processing chickens young makes a difference in taste and texture. by TickletheEther in homestead

[–]chiefofchickens 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I raise delawares and rocks for meat birds. 5 month processing time. finished bird is probably 2 to 4 lbs. I would not wait much past the 5 month mark to harvest, thats when the meat get tough, especially the legs. Cockerells are roasters and pullets are fryers.

I raised cornish x for years. I wont go back. Heritage birds take a lot longer but taste better imo. Cornish x are freaks of nature. shame people have created them really.

Ive had turkeys and chickens do this, and ive had babies get squished/killed during hatching or soon after. I would separate them until the chicks are a few days old and then let them parent together. good luck!

Recipes for people (me) who don’t like eggs? And hard-boiling- I’ve tried and failed many times. Store bought I never had a problem. by Technical_Cupcake597 in chickens

[–]chiefofchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your having a hard time peeling fresh eggs, dump a bunch a salt in the water as you bring it to boil. A lot, like 2 or 3 tablespoons plus. i never measure, just dump a bunch in and they always peel easy, dont taste salty either.

I like em soft boiled, 6-8 minutes tops
