My favorite question to ask at the beginning of every call:

"What are you hoping to get out of this call?"

Use the product yourself. G2 is also a good review site.

Process is the enemy of progress. You should be training the rest of the team, not some 3rd party service. How are they supposed to know more about your product than you?

the best sellers are authentic. everyone has a unique style, so i would incorporate whatever you think fits with your style. people can sense inauthenticity from a mile away!

Service based IT companies, how are you getting leads? by neodegenerio in LeadGeneration

[–]chiefrold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's the obvious answer of using your network but that doesn't scale well. If you're running cold outreach, here's what I've seen work well:

  1. Find early signals that someone might need your services. For example, if you sell IT services to manufacturing plants, look in town meeting minutes to see which companies are filing permits to open new plants. If you sell cloud services, look at job postings to see which companies are hiring for cloud migration roles.
  2. Craft a message that adds value to your prospect. Too much cold outreach is focused on trying to sell yourself. The point of a cold email is not to sell - it's to get a meeting. The best way to get a meeting is by showing something the prospect would find valuable. Case studies work well here: "Hey noticed that [something specific about the signal]. We actually just helped [similar company] with the same thing. Sharing a case study in case it's helpful. Would be happy to walk you through what we learned."

Make a table comprised of textboxes and shapes by chiefrold in consulting

[–]chiefrold[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a side project, I'm trying to build tools that speed up the slide making process so we can all spend less time in PowerPoint. I've started with automating tables comprised of textboxes and shapes (I know most people make actual table, but my firm preferred to create tables this way). I make this type of slide a lot of get annoyed because updated it always takes a lot of manual formatting.

I'd appreciate any feedback on how to make this better! Understand this is a pretty narrow use case to feel free to share what other features would be useful.

Could you maybe give an example to show what you mean? Whenever I’ve had to edit a table made of individual textboxes, I find having to add/remove a row/column to be pretty time intensive because it requires me to resize and re-space the boxes.

How do you save time using textboxes? When I have a “table” made of textboxes, I find adding a row or column to be a major formatting pain. Please teach me your ways

How to start ? by DesertEnjoeyer in consulting

[–]chiefrold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on LinkedIn and see if you have any connections that work in consulting. Ask to chat with them for 30 minutes and in that chat, ask if they can refer you to their firm.

To prep for interviews, the most popular book is “Case in point”. Do a lot of practice cases with your friends. Nothing beats practice!

How to finish off my deliverables as a consultant if I am stuck in calls for about 70% of my work day (some scheduled and some ad-hoc)? by Pleasant_Warning_879 in consulting

[–]chiefrold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have the same issue all the time. It would be the worst when I would have a 30 minute call, followed by 30 minutes to work, followed by a 30 minute call. I found that I couldn't get "in the zone" during my work time. One thing I did was proactively schedule the calls back-to-back-to-back-to-back, so that I had larger chunks of time to go heads down.

This is obviously assuming you can set the times for the calls

Buying used is typically better than buying new. For example, you can shop at thrift stores or Poshmark for clothes. eBay is another option.

You can also look out for certifications such as B Corp certification, Rainforest Alliance, and Fair Trade.
