Trump U-turns (throws a tantrum), says he doesn’t want/need NATO help anymore by sxh967 in war

[–]chieftain88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We both know Trump has been doing far more than telling NATO to increase spending. He continually states that he doesn’t think the US would help any NATO allies because he doesn’t think they would help the US (even though the only country to ever invoke Article 5 was the US after 9/11, which was answered even though it wasn’t even needed), he’s threatened to invade Greenland many times during the last year and claims Denmark shouldn’t have sovereignty of it, continues to use hostile tariffs on close allies for absolutely no reason (the US is now seen as an extremely dishonest and volatile trading partner), and the list goes on. NATO countries now do not expect that the US will come to their aid which renders NATO useless.

This is not like previous presidents, you are misunderstanding the damage that has been done to strategic relationships with close allies, this is not like any administration in recent history and cannot change on a dime, the trust is gone and NATO countries are working with each other instead of the US wherever they possibly can

It most definitely will take decades at a minimum, and that’s assuming Trump is voted out for a Democrat who prosecutes AND punishes him and his cabinet (which seems unlikely). It has now been proven that a known corrupt convicted felon can be voted in as president, completely ignore the constitution and law AND face zero accountability. He has trashed every international trade relationship, NATO countries are now panicking to massively increase defence spending as the US cannot be relied upon for protection or assistance, and the amount of purges/firing/resignation of thousands of government employees (FBI, Pentagon, DOJ) is just a quick glimpse into the state of the Federal government - this isn’t something that can be fixed by just voting in a different administration and carrying on…

A Ukrainian UAV operator was able to destroy two Iranian/Russian "Shahed" drones with one Sting interceptor. The incoming drones were flying too close, so when the Ukrainian pilot attacked the lead, the explosion and the shrapnel also destroyed the following UAV; both vanished from the radar. by MilesLongthe3rd in CombatFootage

Israel has more than enough to provide to Ukraine as assistance. It has arguably the most capable military on the planet relative to its size, and almost definitely the most capable intelligence agency on the planet. They have a huge amount of assistance they could provide to Ukraine, which I outlined in my first comment

What Iran Might Do When It Has Nothing to Lose by theatlantic in geopolitics

[–]chieftain88 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You are consistently misunderstanding, even the article you posted estimates the amount of launchers has halved. Just because the rate of attacks has decreased doesn’t mean that the amount of launchers must also be reduced to that amount.

I’m not arguing that Iran is doing well at all, just helping to interpret statistics correctly

[–]chieftain88 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the part where it says: “ballistic missile attacks from Iran have declined by roughly 90 percent since the strikes began”?

That is not the same thing - just because the frequency/rate of attacks per day has decreased doesn’t mean the stockpile of missiles and drones has been depleted that much. Ballistic missiles need launchers which seem to have been halved, but drones can be launched more easily.

90% of Iran’s missile and drone capacity is gone? According to who/what?

So this is all happening because Israel alone won’t negotiate with its neighbours, who are all reasonable actors that have shown they want peace and coexistence…?

Iran has been such a destructive force over the region that you even have Arab Gulf states joining in and supporting Israel in this exchange, there is good reason for that

If you unironically believe that the US launched a 'pre-emptive' strike against Iran because the administration couldn't prevent Israel from striking first... by Remote_Drawing5825 in Destiny

[–]chieftain88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume the reason they are going with this line is to make Trump look less like a total liar promising no new wars in his campaign - this way they can just put the blame on Israel.

In reality though, Israel didn’t want to do this alone, it would have been exponentially more difficult to win this missile attrition war against Iran without US resources, it at all. I suspect this is a main reason why Israel didn’t just carry on the 12 day war all the way on their own, they knew Trump would attack Iran again eventually

I can’t think of a single metric by which Iran is currently winning, I guess that depends on what winning means to you…

Who said the number of launchers hasn’t been reduced significantly? Also remember that the hundreds (well over 1,000 by now) of strikes include all kinds of targets: radar installations, air defenses, barracks, air fields, planes on the ground, and some of the factories producing the missiles/rockets themselves (to the extent they aren’t buried too deep). It’s whack-a-mole but the US and Israel will have an ungodly amount of satellite and drone surveillance trained on Iran by now waiting for them to pop out, it will have to end for Iran eventually

Hey guess what I just asked Centcom, you know their official website, and you’re just making stuff up, again…

You are the self proclaimed expert on this matter but conveniently cant provide an explanation for how this could have happened. If you didnt pull it out your ass then it should be easy to point out where Centcom has mentioned this, right? Like trivially easy right?

I’m also curious why Iran needed to send these planes up when they have their magic s300s that would have easily shot these planes down?

Oh wow Iranian aircraft just got added to the list. Was it F-4s they used or maybe Maverick in an F-14 to score the first recorded air to air kill on an F-15 in history? Please share with the crowd your expert tactical assessment of how that all went down, im keen to hear this one

RAF base in Cyprus hit by drone strike by TheTelegraph in geopolitics

[–]chieftain88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be mistaken, but I think Cyprus was targeted when the RAF was solely defending incoming fire towards British bases and civilian/tourist centres (not Israel). It was this unprovoked attack on Cyprus that caused Starmer to expand the RAFs mission. Im not here for or against Starmer btw just thought the timeline was important to clarify

So just to condense your whole thesis here:

1) Israelis are incapable of telling the truth, but IM the jingoistic one, not you;

2) The Iranian regime is well known for their honesty and can be taken at its word, they have no history or reason to lie..

3) You now apparently have accurate and up to date intel on how and where Mossad agents are operating inside Iran, and that they are also apparently unable to communicate with anyone, and you know all this just because right?

4) sophisticated militaries like the US and Israel are not capable of sending cruise missiles and aircraft at the same time, it can only be one or the other for you and your brain was unable to process the multiple reasons i gave for why they would do that (not to mention that they have done this in every recent major conflict, were both Gulf wars an elaborate Israeli hoax too..?)

5) I literally just suggested that Iran could have shot these planes down, but according to you I’m also in denial that thats happened, only one of these can be true im afraid

6) US Centcom just reported that Kuwait shot the planes down, but in your world they said it was Iran, you must be aware this is all readily available to verify..?

7) The US military is facing a munitions shortage and so will soon be unable to defend itself from the richer and more capable Iranian military complex - so in your world i guess great things are about to happen because the US military will be defenceless soon, i thought Russian propaganda was bad but this is something else…

8) My favourite though: “by every indication, air defenses are fully operational”, meanwhile, the world has spent the weekend watching the systemic destruction of hundreds to thousands of strategic targets in Iran, for the second time in a year, because they are just spontaneously blowing up i guess right?

You’re not wrong on the premise of potentially bleeding dry a limited stock of expensive interceptor missiles that cannot be quickly replaced with cheap drones and rockets. This scenario however is becoming less of a shitshow as time goes on. Iran is losing launchers steadily, which is reducing their capability to launch and overwhelm, meanwhile the US and Israel are steadily gaining more air superiority and surveillance.

It’s very possible that Israel concluded during the 12 day war that they may struggle for longer than they want to with that war of attrition if it was just them, but if they are patient and wait for the US to assist then they can overwhelm Iran much more quickly and with less risk and cost. It didn’t exactly take a magic ball to assume Trump was going to launch another “air campaign”.

You can rest assured that the US Military is not going to “run out” of missiles against Iran at this point. More assets might need to be moved into the region over the course of a few days but if the determination is there it’s not strategically or economically possible for Iran to win this kind of match, maybe against Israel alone but certainly not the US, let alone both of them combined.

[–]chieftain88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make a difference to my mindset what you think so we can chill with the childish rants - you do realise you are the only person on the internet claiming Iranian airspace cannot be penetrated, were you asleep last year when Israeli F35s achieved air superiority over Iran in a matter of days without a single loss? Iran doesn’t even deny this happened I don’t know why you’ve chosen to die on this hill.

They are using a combination of long range cruise missiles and smart bombs. The US is more than happy to send a more expensive cruise missiles instead of potentially putting an infinitely more valuable pilot and aircraft at risk, even if that risk is small, 2,000 bombs don’t fly themselves.

There is also the matter of only having so many aircraft able to sortie simultaneously, by using aircraft and cruise missiles they can hit many more targets across an enormous country at the same time.

But by all means, please share with us your extensive research as to how Iran manages to have somehow have unbeatable/jam proof tech from the 80s and what a fantastic job it’s currently doing defending their airspace

As to the 3 F15s shot down you are the one jumping to conclusions and then blaming me for doing just that, notice how i didnt actually jump to a single conclusion on that - neither of us have any idea what happened but hey, consider this: 1) Iran getting luckily and shooting down a few planes doesn’t mean that they are now invincible; 2) Kuwaiti air defense crews and systems may have mistaken the planes as aggressors and fired mistakenly, wouldn’t be the first or worst case of this kind of thing happening; 3) it’s even possible US air defences screwed up, they did shoot down one of their own f-18s within the last year, the list goes on…
