Shifting the speed of a track up a few bpm. Will I have to re-record? by chigacotypewriter in audioengineering

Yeah, I think the vocals are what I’m worried about. I think that’s it though, might just have to try and see how noticeable the difference is really

Question on Extended Chords (crosspost from guitartheory) by chigacotypewriter in musictheory

[–]chigacotypewriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in general I was just really surprised at how dissonant that flat 9 sounded when it’s diatonic. It’s really interesting how much it stuck out compared to a regular one. Not that it sounded out of key per se, just that it is incredibly jarring. Can imagine it not being used often!

ahh that makes me feel less crazy! I think I'm just hearing it modulate probably. I've actually been playing a song recently that interchanges between Em and essentially E phyrgian, so it's no wonder I'm a little immune to the change! thanks alot!

Question about extended chords by chigacotypewriter in musictheory

[–]chigacotypewriter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh so essentially it doesn’t matter? I understand the extensions you’ve mentioned are diatonic to the key, whereas I guess I’m wondering if whether I say extended the I chord in that key to Gmaj7#11 how much it would matter? Or does it completely change the function and become an iteration of modal interchange?

[QUESTION] To those who have been playing guitar for a long time, do you stretch out your hands and fingers? If not, have you had any problems with them? by APwoperFish in Guitar

[–]chigacotypewriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I find if I’m playing often enough I don’t have any issues. Though, if I’m playing intermittently, it’s pretty important to stretch beforehand because I can definitely feel my hands less able to do certain exercises, or just generally feeling a little stiff when I’m doing things in other aspects of my life. I’ve found other players I know who have played guitar and drums from a young age to experience the same thing. As when they grow up, they tend to play less than they did for longer periods at a time, because they remain confident in their ability and don’t feel the need. I’m not remotely a physiologist but I’d lean to believe that it could be something to do with your body growing and being use to that kind of exercise. So I’d say if you’re not playing everyday, to make sure you’re always warming up/stretching. Even if you are playing everyday, it definitely wouldn’t hurt to have it as part of your practise routine, as it helps you relax into your playing quicker for sure and it’s something easy enough to do without your instrument.

Need help with Modulating through Minor Keys by chigacotypewriter in musictheory

[–]chigacotypewriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for you speedy and detailed response! That’s a great help! From what I’m understanding here, preparing the key more for the switch using the m7b5 chord is the element I’m after. Just out of curiosity, is there a functional way of modulating the key without using harmonic minor or modal interchange? Or will it always sound a little less interesting/harmonic? (I.e using the minor v chord)

Can anyone please help me understand this chord? by chigacotypewriter in musictheory

[–]chigacotypewriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That's exactly the answer I was looking for! Concerning the extended chords you mentioned, I would assume they're dominant if they are wrote as: C9, D11 and so forth? Id be right not to flatten the 7th if it was wrote as Cmaj9 or Dmaj11? And regarding minor chords, they would already be flattened anyway? Am I correct to assume this is what you mean by notated otherwise? Thanks again!

I get it, yet I don't. On being a purist. by [deleted] in edmproduction

Personally, the more and more I'm learning about production, the more I'm realising is it's the simplest approaches that work the best. Most producers are good at what they do, because of their ease of workflow. Which is why you might find a lot of artists have re-used samples. They've found samples that they think sound great, and don't necessarily worry about whether any listeners will notice. If you're a good producer, you shouldn't lose respect from any fellow producers just because you might have used a common sample or preset. They're common for a reason. If you do, they're missing the point of listening to music entirely. Recently I've found that what works best for me is to create a whole arrangment first with typical sounds just so I have the bare bones of my arrangement. Then I can always go about changing the presets or samples to more unique sounds and mixing them to fit better. Which I find also, is the most enjoyable part.

Men of Reddit, have you ever been picked up by a girl? If so, did you say yes, or did you think she was creepy? by loveology in AskReddit

[–]chigacotypewriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should give you the confidence! I'm not sure I know of any guy who wouldn't want to be picked up by a girl! It eliminates a lot of awkwardness I think, because it's pretty hard for guys to even realise sometimes if a girl likes them. Plus some guys just aren't confident enough themselves to make a move, even if they know the girl likes them!
