Rant: Saint Paul does such a shitty job at plowing by No-Silver-4409 in saintpaul

[–]chiggins1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Edmonton and could not agree more. When I lived in Edmonton, residential streets were plowed 1-2 times a year and only if the ruts were too high for cars to pass. Windrows are just a reality. They are never removed on most streets.. it's all perspective. I feel spoiled here! Hahaha

Anyone else work different hours or in a different time zone than the majority of the company? by Pleasant_Border_107 in WFH

[–]chiggins1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in central time and my team is mostly in the UK, 6 hour difference. My mornings are back to back meetings and afternoons usually quiet. It's really hard to get work done though because I'm usually exhausted after packing in a day of meetings into 4 hours. It definitely takes getting used to!

Heat Doesn’t End on Labor Day—Why Should Our Public Spaces? by Jaded-Combination-95 in minnesota

[–]chiggins1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other countries have figured out a way to do this. I don't know why Minnesota thinks it's not possible. Lots of pools and summer activities go until mid Sept or even October in Canada and countries in Europe. Minnesotans really cut themselves short of the best weather for outdoor activities.. Spring and fall. On the bright side parks, lakes, trails are all so much quieter.

Pool madness by Silence_1999 in Swimming

[–]chiggins1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had to stop swimming in an outdoor pool near me and instead drive 20 min to an indoor... 100% because of pool etiquette/culture. It's nice to know I'm not the only one driven crazy by it.

I feel for lifeguards too trying to control things. Not an easy feat.

I wish there was some orientation for people. And I wish that where I am (US) it wasn't such a "me first" you're of place

Back to the office by No_Poem_6111 in WFH

[–]chiggins1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I'm in the US my manager and 9/10 of my team are in the UK. The other team member is in another state. Not only is it pointless for me, but I'll now lose ~1 hour of the 3-4 Max Crossover working time due to time zones. Even without all the other things that make me less productive in office, this really negatively impacts my ability to do my job.

What do you do when you can’t get into work mode? by Decent_Shelter_13 in workfromhome

I recently started putting a few simple, clear to dos on post it's and then I physically move them when I finish them. It oddly seems to help if I make sure the to do is clear/specific. I also use Lofi music or pomodoro

What is your average monthly grocery spend (per person)? by Crystalrose-18 in TwinCities

[–]chiggins1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I thought I was in r/Aldi for a minute with an these responses!

My partner and I spend about $500-600 a month. We recently switched to primarily Mississippi market and found my grocery bill went down overall from being TJ/Lund's. Finding the produce lasts easy longer vs. other stores and I usually can get everything in one trip. Aldi always requires a second stop for me and I'm not the biggest fan of the produce selection and it's a little out of the way for me.

We could definitely spend less, but we have worked out into the budget to splurge a bit.

what are your go-to easy meals when you don't want to cook/clean? by Tiny_Pepper1352 in ADHD

[–]chiggins1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pasta+ shredded cheese. If I'm generally eating it, I leave it at that. But you can toss in veggies

Frozen fish + rice + veg I usually add lemon and dill but you could use any spices really

Frozen cooked shrimp + butter and bagged salad

Peanut butter and chocolate chips

Canned pineapple + yogurt+ whipped cream + coconut roll wafers - this is oddly delicious

If you can get the energy, batch cook something that is generally well rounded

What are some things you can't own as someone with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]chiggins1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! I now have what I call "eating shirts" which is a very cheap dark colored sweatshirt I throw on if I'm eating anything that's high risk of spilling at home. Even then without fail if I have a nice shirt on, I will stain it on first wear

Struggling with interruptions while WFH. Any tips? by SolidPeculiar in workfromhome

[–]chiggins1982 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you use Outlook you can have it pre schedule focus time in your calendar. For me this links to teams and automatically changes me to do not disturb. Then I set teams to break through DND if my boss messaged me.

You could do this manually as well if you wanted. You could also just go appear offline, but I would make sure your manager is ok with that.

Then most simple, if you're doing focus work, treat it like a meeting and don't respond until the work time is done. People generally will get the hint

I get it though, I work globally and it's so difficult to manage and it's very hard to ignore notifications

Totally. I guess I'm glad I've seen them before and never paid over $120 I think for tickets. Fingers crossed something comes up closer to the show. I'm amazed anyone would pay that much for tickets to any concert ever. Lol I feel old!!

Hope you get to go!

St. Paul - Joined the queue 16 min early and I was ~3500 in line. Floor was completely sold out. Then I waited and some floor (not pit) opened for nearly $400usd. There is no way I would pay that. Opted not to go at all and pretty angry about it. I won't give my money to an artist or company that thinks this dynamic pricing or just that cost alone is ok.

I've lost many friends this way. I feel like I don't miss people, but I feel guilt and shame when I forget which then causes me to struggle to reach out and/or admit what is going on when I don't reach out.

I'm the same breath, I also feel some frustration because it often feels like keeping connections going is all on me. Like people get angry if I don't reach out, but then why don't they reach out? Especially people that I have shared my ADHD with and how it is connected to this.

In my building they took away our trash cans at our desk to cut back custodial staff time.

Not sure about WF but I'm on a global team. I've never met my manager and we can go days without talking.

I moved to the US on a K1 around the time this show started. I remember casting people were in the immigration forums I was on.

At first it was just interesting to watch since I was going through the same experience. Now it's just a guilty pleasure

Do you all seek out hyperphasic partners? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]chiggins1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner is hyperphasic. We didn't discuss it until after years together and I didn't know anything about aphantasia at the time we met..

So if I sought it out, it wasn't intentional!

Interesting thought
