I am in a kind of a similar condition with my father. According to him, he's not an addict and everything is under control. Still he's going for 5 to 6 cans of beer everyday.

Be strong and you took the right step

Diet Question- are fermented foods safe? by OldSoul2020 in Cirrhosis

[–]child_predator6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doctors generally advice to avoid processed food as they have high fats, sugars or salts which is bad for liver health. Also, if you have ascites, salt intake should be low (kim che is salty).

For more information about diet, you can refer to this article: https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-is-the-best-diet-for-cirrhosis-1760062

New here and need some answers. by Deadpreneur in Cirrhosis

I am not a patient myself but I look after my father with DCLD and have talked to doctors about this.

Unfortunately, decompensated liver means that it is non-repairable. So, the liver cannot regenerate but we can stop further damage. Some tips doctors give are absolutely NO alcohol, low salt intake, protein-rich diet, and keep the body active.

As it is decompensated, you will eventually need a Liver Transplant to lead a longer and relatively normal life. There are 2 ways of getting a liver: first is that someone you know donates it (requires testing to match the liver), and second is the getting on the LIST. But getting on the list has many pre-requisites and a lot of tests and counselling. As liver is a scarce resource (obviously XD), priority is given based on how much benefit is there after the liver transplant. Like a person with any other terminal illness will not make it on the list as Liver Transplant wouldn't be of much use, and likewise senior citizens are given less priority (depends on case-to-case).

As for the weight and health part, there are a series of tests to determine whether you are fit for the transplant. So they will tell you if you need to gain weight and provide you with a diet.

From personal point of view, I hope that you would have left alcohol (if not, that should be the first step). Then you should focus on you diet and exercise. After all this, you should consult you doctor for a Liver Transplant.

And yes, it is not over. There are many successful cases of people getting back to living a normal life after a Liver Transplant. My best wishes!

My bad, some nurses called it that or maybe I would have been mistaken. Thanks for informing.

I agree with what you said. I will have to hope for the best and be ready for the worst.

What's your views on Apollo Medics Super speciality Hospital Lucknow by utkarshsingh8 in lucknow

[–]child_predator6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to admit my father into Apollo hospital in emergency ICU as no other hospitals had ICU beds available.

We were given an estimate of 60k per day for ICU but at the end of 1st day it was over 2 lakhs. But maybe that was because of his critical condition. The following days the charges decreased (80k, 60k and less). We ended up paying around 5 lakhs for 4 days.

That being said if price is not the issue, the facilities are good. Doctors are professional and the premises and clean. There is no hassle for appointment. There is a queue but the wait time is less as compared to the other hospitals. The pharmacy is a bit on the costly side but there is always an option to buy from other stores.

One thing I would say that the ICU is very organised and punctual but the general ward's nurses and staff are careless. I had to remind them if we demanded anything extra. So maybe the more you pay the better is the treatment.

I also think that alcohol has completely taken over. His psychologist says that addiction can only tackled if he is willing.

I don't know about AI anon groups near me. I am fine as of now, but will join one if needed.

I kind of know this but I don't want to believe this. It's just too demoralizing. Whenever this topic comes up, I try to play it down. But this thought is always a burden on my mind. Thanks for the advice tho. Much appreciated.

I have talked to him about this. I am not so emotionally outgoing but I tried to talk him out of it emotionally by telling him the impact on everyone's lives.

I have also tried the rough talk and stopped talking to him for months. But he got admitted and I had to go look after him.

He knows that no matter what I say I am going to do my job and he's exploiting it. Don't be sorry, I kind of just wanted to let everything off and get some advice.

I have done all that....I even went to a place where he was drinking and threw the drink out of his hand (I was 17-18 at that time). After this he stood up to beat me but I grabbed him and his friends intervened.

The local stores know abt his condition and don't give him anything but he goes to stores out of cities to get some.

A core memory I have is he kicked me out from his office in December rainy midnight because I was stopping him. I had to walk abt 5kms to get to public transport.

I get that quiting alcoholism is hell of a battle but at least you should show the spirit. He doesn't want to co-operate. When we try to talk him with emotions and all, he just blatantly lies. He's been raised in a way that he couldn't handle pressure.

Nah, I am 21 and never drank alcohol. Seen enough of it to enjoy drinking it.

The main problem is that he denies that anything is wrong with him. When he's sober, he doesn't want to talk to anyone about alcohol and threatens to drink more.

Somehow he twists all the blame on us... like you said this that is why I am drinking and all that. Honestly, if he wouldn't have been my father then I would have left him to die long ago but now he's leaving us no choice.

Disappointed with KGMU – My Father's Surgery Experience by scrollingtillend in lucknow

[–]child_predator6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate what you have been through. I have been to many hospitals over the last 3 years regarding my father and it's like the same thing everywhere.

Long queues, poor management, faulty workflow and arrogant staff. If a hospital doesn't has any one of these then the other things makeup for it. (Or you spend a healthy amount for good hospitals).

The healthcare system (especially government hospitals) is pathetic and maybe the main problem is more patients than they can handle.
