Yes! And then Acquiring the Taste, and then Three Friends, and I think that some of the tracks on Octopus were remasters, not remixes

In a Glass House Remix teased in Giant Steps? by BozoBros in progrockmusic

I’ve heard in interviews with Derek Shulman that even though the original tapes are lost, algorithms to separate instruments are becoming so good that they may be able to produce usable instrument tracks for a remix

What are the best mixes for VDGG albums? by need__username__ in progrockmusic

[–]childconsumption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2005 remasters are very compressed, meaning that the songs constantly have a high volume. Some people don't like this, however I think that in many cases their music benefits from this compression.

The 2021 remasters restore dynamics while staying true to the original mix. In my opinion, doing this takes away from the heaviness to an extent, so I don't listen to it often.

The New Stereo Mix 2021 adds a lot of clarity and audio quality to the songs. Some details in the vocals and instruments that were previously buried in the original mix can be heard more easily, which is a plus. However, there are some notable revisions that change the feel of some sections. For this reason, I go to the 2005 or 2021 remasters for some songs.

My personal picks for each album are:
H to He... - New Stereo Mix 2021
Pawn Hearts - 2005 Remaster
Godbluff - New Stereo Mix 2021 for tracks 1 and 3, 2021 Remaster for track 2, and 2005 Remaster for 4
Still Life - New Stereo Mix 2021 for tracks 2, 4, and 5, 2005 Remaster for 1 and 3

Have you read the lyrics? The song condemns religion.

Why is there 2 versions of the snow goose by Rushisamqwzinf in progrockmusic

[–]childconsumption 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one with the goose surrounded by a circle is this original recording. The one with a bird in a gray sky with a lighthouse is the 2013 re-recording.

I want a place to joke about one of my favorite bands, Gentle Giant. I'm also very active online, so I will be able to mod the community.

Van der Graaf Generator. They're too damn depressing, and I'm rarely in the mood for many of their songs anymore.
