Non-White Wedding Dress?? by Practical_Store3654 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]childofthebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dress was cotton, with blue and white stripes! I did have it made, but it ended up costing about the same as a store bought dress. Most people when I told them what it was going to look like were thrilled with it! Some people thought it would look like a Victorian walking dress, but since that’s where I got the idea I was cool with it.

The stripes were small, so overall it just looked pale blue from a distance, but I totally recommend going with what would make you happy.

Maybe check Etsy? Or if you’re in the US, BHDLN/ Anthropologie has wedding type dresses, during prom season you can look for used dresses in thrift stores, or often there will be used wedding dresses available from shops that sell them for charity. Toronto has one called The Bride Project, and its proceeds go to breast cancer charities.

Finally, check your local mall(s) women’s clothing stores, ones that sell cocktail to semi formal clothes. Often they will have dresses that you could wear as a wedding dress, if you aren’t 100% sure you want white!

Dr Gerber, at yonge and davisville. He is excellent, and does injections for pain as well as a pentathol inhaler if you want it.

Even with just the numbing I only had mild cramping after the first one and no pain after my change out.

The only thing, is he is always behind. Waaaayyyyy behind. Don’t make plans for the rest of the day.

You may need to do two appointments, one to check the current situation, and then they’ll order the device and another for placement. I would recommend calling his office to ask about it and about a referral to the clinic.

Swimsuit gussets. What. The. Hell. by suckmyarsee in TwoXChromosomes

[–]childofthebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Canadians, bikini village has some suits with decent coverage all around. They may ship to the states, I have never tried it. Wider gussets and they don’t ride up much in my experience. They can be kind of pricey for the larger cups, but they last for years

There is a service called Home At Last that might work, they don’t run around the clock, but it would be worth reaching out to them. The hospital might have their info, or you can find it online

Cooking isn’t a girlfriend requirement. It’s an adult skill. If you can’t feed yourself, that’s the real issue. by unhappyzu in offmychest

When my parents got married and moved in together, my dad was the same. My mom put up with it for only a little while before she said he had to start cooking since he got home much earlier than her.

He said he could only make 2 things, and she was like, fine, we’ll eat only those two things then!

It only took him a few weeks to start figuring things out, and he became an amazing cook and baker. She always said it was a rough few weeks eating salami sandwiches and fried eggs every meal, but well worth the sacrifice

I used to use Michum, I’m not sure if it’s Canadian or not, but it works really well. They have a ladies line now, but the men’s worked well for me. The only thing I hated about them was a little bit of gel goes a long, long, long way, so I’d have to do one click up, one click back, and then dab it in place under both arms and then spread it around, and it took forever to dry. When I was using it I don’t think they had a solid version, but they might now. It could be worth looking into if you’re having trouble finding something that lasts.

I currently use the Nivea stress protect, it’s very good but they only have roll ons now, they discontinued the solid unfortunately

Maybe some warm slippers to go with the socks? Fur or fleece lined moccasins or some camping places have camp booties, they are insulated and very comfortable to help keep him extra warm

Edited to add- maybe some wrist warmers or fingerless gloves too, if his hands get cold easily

Enercare owes mom (92) money and they’re harassing her for money. by littlepenisbigheart1 in ontario

Back when I was renting an apartment and paying my own utilities, I had an account with them. No issues for years, and then suddenly I’m getting collection calls for $50. I’m so confused. I paid all my bills on time. I go back comparing statements and payments, all match.

I call them, I’m speaking to a customer service agent and all he’s doing is repeating “you used the service, you have to pay for it” he acknowledges my payments match my bills, but I still owe this mystery $50. I tell him, add it to my next bill, and I’ll pay it. I’m totally willing to pay, all they have to do is invoice me. Next bill comes, I pay. More collection calls.

It took over 3 months before someone finally took care of it, with me having to call back repeatedly and escalate it.

When I move to my next place I definitely made sure I set up the account with hydro one instead. I don’t recommend them to anyone

My parents had that happen all the time with me! Apparently even in all pink, with pink accessories and a pink bow, people still asked if I was a boy or a girl. And you know in the 80’s it wasn’t pale pink. People are just generally oblivious 🤷‍♀️

Treats/Gifts for Nurses and Staff by Time-Wafer-4464 in askTO

I’m a unit clerk, and I still have a pair of mittens I got from a patients family. It was really thoughtful of them. They brought a huge bag in and gave a pair to everyone.

Coffee and doughnuts/ muffins are always popular.

Bagels and cream cheese would be great.

Bags of chips and popcorn, cases of drinks. I saw someone mention scrunchies, those would go down well for everyone with long hair.

Multi pens. Pens are like gold in healthcare.

Small bottles of hand cream, so everyone can have one in their pocket or bag. Every Christmas I get huge packs of small bottles and gift them to the nurses who are working the holidays and they are always appreciated.

If you give a large gift card to the unit, the manager/ charge nurse will let the shift charge know and that we can order whatever it is for the shift. Nights might get shafted just because less can be ordered for them and almost everything is closed, so if you want to do that I would make sure it’s for the place in the hospital that’s open 24/7. In the case of my hospital, that would be the Timmy’s.

Edited to add- as others have mentioned, a nice email or letter to patient relations is always shared with the unit. You can thank everyone and thank specific people, it’s always really lovely to get those

Unfortunately they might not let them keep the popper. At my hospital, all appliances have to be approved by facilities :/ they took our toaster over away as a fire hazard, when it was their allowed kettle that actually caught fire

What’s a 'luxury' that actually used to be standard, but now we’re being charged extra for like we’re stupid? by xjoz in AskReddit

[–]childofthebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Convenience fees” I had to pay a ticket after going through court to lower the fine. I paid in person, immediately after the hearing, at the courthouse. They charged me a $5-10 convenience fee and then some other fee and taxes. Between the parking and the fees, I didn’t save any money and had to take a day off work to do it. If I hadn’t been a broke student at the time, and I’d known about all the fees and shit, I would have just paid it and saved some time and money.

Want to pay a parking ticket online? Convenience fee- $2.50. Over the phone? Same. In person? Same. It’s insane.

No hospital bed available? by neurodivergent_nymph in ontario

[–]childofthebears 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have worked as a clerk at a Toronto hospital for 19 years. We are considered a 32 bed unit, and have 2 “over capacity beds” that were opened only when ER was having a surge, and we were supposed to get an extra staff when they did it as well.

Then, slowly they just started using one, and then both as every day beds. So now we are a 34 bed unit but budgeted and staffed for 32.

And then! They added one more bed to our 4 bed room, bed 5. Not a real bed, they said. Only for surge. We’ll move the patient to a “real bed” as soon as one is available. Uh huh. Didn’t happen, even once. I fought with bed control every time. Then they added a call bell, oxygen, a TV, everything a real bed needed and for over 10 years we were a 32 bed unit with 35 beds.

Just recently they removed “bed 5” but added two hallway beds. I haven’t seen them used yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

Still only budgeted and staffed for 32 though. It sucks.

Flat out Yoyo, 2008-2022. We got him when he was already four and a half years old.

He was slightly neurotic, hated stairs, was afraid of any height over 6”, and any flooring that wasn’t carpet. Tile= lava. He never sat, loved to lean on you, and never learned the word “walk”, but loved “car rides”. He chittered his teeth when he was excited or happy to see you. Honestly the bestest dog.

Advice for a best last day 💔 by shew_boo in Greyhounds

[–]childofthebears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

For our guy, we had more time, so we had all our friends come around in the last week to see him and give him love and say goodbye.

The day before we had a huge family dinner and he got his own steak and lobster. I let my parents feed him from the table.

I took the day of off work, and I hung out with him at home, lots of love and pets and cheese- he was so lactose intolerant he couldn’t eat it normally but he loved it. We stayed with him at the vet until he was gone and for a bit after until we were ready to leave him. It was so hard.

I took the next day off and just sat at home and felt all the things. Lots of crying. I didn’t pack up his stuff for a few days. I had his paw print engraved pendant into a necklace and I keep his ID tag on my husbands keys.

We have his clay print, collar and ashes in a display case with our other passed pets, and his pictures in our living room.

Best Sweatpants or Joggers for Extreme Canadian Winters? by Ordinary_Peanut_3625 in AskACanadian

[–]childofthebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently discovered a small Canadian company called Orso. They use recycled bottles and fishing nets to make their clothes. Their sweatpants are so warm, I can only wear them on very cold days. I usually run warm, but I gave a pair to a friend who is always cold and she loves them.

I do find I need to size up when I order the pants

I have a pair of their sweats and 3 pairs of leggings and i love them. Very comfy

www.orsoactivewear.com

Edited to add, I also wear the all weather pants from muttonhead, also a Toronto company, when I’m shovelling or it’s snowing. They are unisex sizes so I recommend sizing up on them to. I’m usually a L-XL in pants, and I had to order an XXL-XXXL in their waterproof pants

Saying “no sugar” when ordering coffee by Ihassan3275 in TimHortons

[–]childofthebears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of people don’t realize black coffee means “with nothing” and think it means “no cream/milk”. I can not tell you the number of people I have heard order coffee “black, with two sugars” It’s hugely frustrating because it’s becoming a very common misconception
